3D System Components - Test SMCS - 1408; 7610; 7620 The 3D System Components does not have diagnostic codes, but a warring and error text messages appears on the 3D Cat® GRADE display TD-520. This informs the operators and the technician of the system about the malfunction or poor performance. The system will initiate a self-check of all its components, when the 3D system Grade display is powered up for the first time. The status of the components will be displayed after the display complete it startup sequence. Any warning or error messages will be displayed, the system status menu also provides the status of the system components. The licenses menu provides: • The status of the license installed on the R2 ECM and the GNSS Receivers (Right and Left). • Core Bundle status. • The 3D Module license – Design status.

GNSS Receivers The Cat GRADE 2D and 3D System on Excavators will be equipped with two GNSS Receivers (RH/LH) from factory.

When troubleshooting the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Receiver, observing the indicator LED lights status could be helpful to isolate and troubleshoot any GNSS Receivers warning or error messages.

The SNM940 Radio has two LED indicators lights on the front face of it as shown in Illustration 4. The Green LED Indicator light (5) will provide the power supply and the GNSS status The amber indicator light (9) provides the wireless communications status. The two LED indicator light on the SNM940 Radio provides information of the device status for troubleshooting. The two LED lights flashing status meaning is explained in the below Table 5. The CAN components CAN troubleshooting section on the diagnostics. Note: When troubleshooting the 3D system Components, refer to the machine system schematics or 3D system components connectors pinout tables. The CAN Data Link or the Electrical Power Supply - Tests can be performed by implementing their troubleshooting steps to troubleshoot the 3D system components, CAN bus, or the power supply circuit.

GNSS Problems There are a large variety of issues that can affect GNSS satellites and the position accuracy of the GRADE system. Many of these issues are due to factors inherent in the technology. These factors should be understood and ed for when operating the GRADE system. Some of the common issues are: • Poor satellite configuration • Loss of satellite signal

Poor Satellite Configuration This value is measured as Position Dilution Of Precision (PDOP). The GRADE display will allow the operator to monitor the PDOP. PDOP should be as low as possible, and will change throughout the day as satellites go through orbits. PDOP will also be affected if there are obstructions that prevent view of the sky such as trees, buildings, and other terrain. PDOP will tend to introduce an offset from desired grade, but PDOP issues can also introduce grade roughness as satellites appear and disappear.

Loss of Satellite Signal Loss of satellite signals eventually results in an error message on the GRADE display. The message indicates that the system no longer has a high precision location established. GRADE requires a RealTime Kinematic (RTK) Fixed type of position solution. If signals are lost, RTK Float or Autonomous modes for the position solution are degenerated. This action will result in poor accuracy. Load Assist and Sequence Assist do not require positions to be calculated from the GNSS receiver. These features use ground speed data generated by the GNSS receiver. The ground speed data can be affected by satellite reception and configuration, but is not as sensitive to those factors as position. Other factors include the following: • Poor satellite configuration affecting grade control accuracy • Poor base station placement

• Loss of signal due to obstructions - use of Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) to improve reception/performance for velocity signal (Auto Ripper and Auto Carry)

Base Station Problems GRADE system relies on a GNSS base station to achieve the required position accuracy while grading. If the base station is not correctly sending position corrections to the machine, the GRADE system may see the following: • "Low GNSS Accuracy" warnings shown on the 3D GRADE system display • A warning on the display that the base station position has moved There are some general guidelines to proper placement of a base station for grade control use. • Maintain good line of sight between the base station and the work site. The data radios used for this data are line of sight only. An elevated position for the base station transmit antenna will provide greater range. • Multipath effects must be avoided. These effects are caused by satellite signals reflecting from surfaces and ad-hoc antennas such as: metal sides of a building, nearby truck trailers, power lines (which can interfere with the signal in several ways), chain link fences, and other obstructions. The base station antenna will perform better at a higher (more elevated) position if clear of the listed reflecting surfaces and ad-hoc antennas. • Maintain as full a view of the sky as possible. The base station relies on keeping view of as many satellites as possible. Any sky obstruction such as buildings, trees, and terrain should be minimized. • Keep the base station away from roads or other areas where there is vehicle traffic. ing vehicles can cause transient multi-path effects that are difficult to troubleshoot.
