IIW Certified International Welding Engineer (CIWE) AS/NZS ISO 3834:2008 and ISO 3834:2005 ‘Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials’ define the requirements for Welding Coordination Personnel in paragraph 7.3 of Parts 2 and 3. ISO 3834 states that “The manufacturer shall have at his disposal appropriate welding coordination personnel. Such persons having responsibility for quality activities shall have sufficient authority to enable any necessary action to be taken. The tasks and responsibilities of such persons shall be clearly defined.” The IWE has a specific role to play as a RWC at the comprehensive knowledge level. The IWE qualification is offered by the WTIA through the IIW programme for distance learning and the IIW CIWE through a certification programme maintained by the WTIA. Qualification:

Qualification and Certification: IIW International Welding Engineer (IWE) and IIW Certified IWE (CIWE) Job Description: • Perform, supervise and/or oversee all company welding and welding-related activities; • Have overall responsibility for the coordination of all welding and welding-related activities; • Be authorised to sign on behalf of the organisation in all welding quality related matters or delegate such g e.g. goods release for despatch, inspection sign-off, accepting technical welding requirements, or ing that the organisation has complied with all relevant quality considerations in the production of the product.
