FOREWORD

It was one year ago that “Tupac:187” was released to the public. It was released with little fanfare, as most things are when hype is not a factor. And if you dealt with Russell Poole, hype was never in the conversation. We re-worked Russell’s groundbreaking investigation, from the start, and we looked several times at every lead Russell could , and even a few he could not. When Russell, Michael, and I finished the book, we knew that there were two fundamental issues that applied to long-gestating investigations (and books based on them: a) People’s testimony can change, and b) so much time goes by that one needs a scorecard to who the players are. And the book became overwhelming. In "Tupac:187," we came up with the analogy to the Camelot story, and in looking back I am not sure if it helped or hurt the message we wanted to tell. As a storyteller, a documentary gets dry when there is not something mildly entertaining about the story. But journalists are a different kind of storyteller, and I was ceasing to become an entertainer and more of a journalist. Of course Michael was already there; I think that, had I recognized and embraced the evolution, “Tupac:187” may have read more like what you are about to read; the facts are all there, but Michael and Russell stripped away all of the fat and came up with an ultimately distilled (and augmented) view of the investigation. For those who want to get to the bottom line, there is no team better than Michael and Russell to do that. However, Russell is no longer with us. The man, who had conviction to stand in the face of the Los Angeles Police Department with allegations of corruption, was at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (by invitation) to take his convictions further. Russell believed that Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies were involved with the shooting and cover-up of Knight in 2014. Russell had spoken to an attorney with Knight’s camp, and whether or not Knight is credible as a witness, the attorney said that Knight was in agreement with Russell’s Tupac Murder theory. Russell was at the Sheriff's office willing to allege that a deputy had acted illegally and participated in Knight’s shooting. The Sheriff knew he was coming. Russell dropped from a heart attack while pleading his case with an apparently apathetic Sheriff's office. As to the work on Chaos Merchants: I had some foundational involvement with it, but I was largely sequestered for the few months following the book's release.

I was harassed during that time and was threatened by people who did not like having their names out there. LAPD's Threat Assessment Unit was on speed dial. Because of this, I had to take a break from following leads; Michael and Russ kept “moving the ball down the field," and with all our work in consideration. They turned over new conversations you will read about here. They took the “187” theory and kept pushing for new witnesses and evidence to it. What you will see is not a “rewrite” of our work. It sets up the stage for those who follow in continuing the investigation. New facts can be introduced, and I look at this book as a “masters course” in the Tupac Shakur/Christopher Wallace shootings. It gets right to it. If you want a more flowery exposition, pick up “Tupac:187” and take a day off. This book is a concentrated work to shed light to a tragic situation. Even now, more leads are coming in, and yes, I am now back in the hunt to pick up from where Russ left us. Michael has done a fantastic job of mowing down the weeds of deception, and really getting to the heart of the truth. “Chaos Merchants” sets the question of who is creating this chaos and why. By his ability to clear the debris, Michael has left us capable of aiming our investigation in a true and unrestricted direction. As Michael and I sit down and figure out where we are going, expect that you will also be along for the ride. We believe the information now coming in, too quickly to process, is beneficial to the investigation and shaping up to make a new project, where we look at what the “harsh light” was; who was trying to kill Knight, what they were doing to cover it, and why it was necessary to do that in the first place. Russell Poole never backed down. Most people never would have entertained going to the very people they suspect of wrongdoing asking for help in getting arrests. Most people dislike confrontations with the police, and controversy involving law enforcement in general. Not Russ. He had his truth and he stormed their castle. He died for what he believed in. Not much more can be said for a man who gives his life for his belief.

CHAPTER ONE

FORMER LAPD DETECTIVE RUSSELL POOLE’S DEATH

August 19, 2015

Russell is an American Hero. He knew the risks of what he was doing. We talked about it. He and I made a pact that if one of us was killed the other would get the information out there where it could be used to bring the killers to justice. He died for something he believed in. He died because the Tupac and Biggie cases have always stuck in his craw and he wanted to solve them. He did solve them. He first tried to meet with LAPD and they burned him. He thought the Sheriff’s provided an alternative that would serve justice. He hiked six miles a day and was in better health than I had ever seen him in. His spirits were high as he felt finally there would be someone that would bring this case to closure. I spoke with Russell Poole at 9 AM this morning. He was stuck in traffic in Diamond Bar on the 60 and he was on the way to meet with the LA County Sheriff’s in Monterey Park. I had talked to him yesterday about cancelling the meeting but out of respect for Jim McDonnell he felt he should go through with it. He was on his way to talk about the murder of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls with summary pages that were footnoted about the case. Russell told me he was going to call me the minute he got out of the meeting and let me know what was said. I waited and waited but got no word from him. I sent a few inquiring text messages and got no response. About 5:30 PM I got a text message from one of my confidential informants telling me that Russell Poole was dead. I immediately looked it up on Google and sure enough the news reports were already in that Russell had died. It is strange that it hit the media before his family was notified. I was the one that called his aunt and she broke down in tears from the news. What is also strange is that Bomb1st had an interview from Reggie Wright Jr.

who already had the news and he said he was glad Russell was dead[1]. He also talked about our summary pages of information like he had those pages in front of him. He knew exactly what Russell was there to discuss. I know because Russell and I spent hours on the telephone discussing this meeting and preparing for it. How did Reggie Wright Jr. know about what homicide investigators were discussing with Russell minutes after the meeting and Russell dying? This ties back directly to Suge Knight’s current legal troubles, his shooting at the 1Oak night club and the attempt on Suge’s life on the night of September 7th 1996, when Tupac was shot and later died as a result of the wounds he received that night. My opinion is that Russell was murdered because we have uncovered the truth about the murder of Tupac Shakur. It is reminiscent of the attempted murder of Michael “Harry-O” Harris while he was in prison and given a 7 UP by one of the central characters in this story. It also makes me wonder if Tupac wasn’t given something in those final hours. He seemed to be on the mend and took a turn for the worse and then his body gets rushed off to be cremated. The truth is that an off-duty Sheriff was videotaped letting the two shooters into the 1Oak Nightclub to kill Suge Knight. They picked the nightclub because the Sheriffs would respond to the crime scene. Standard protocol was not observed and they turned out the nightclub without getting witness statements. The crime scene was purposely bungled by Sheriffs so that no prosecution could ever by made. The same off-duty Sheriff was caught on videotape dropping the shooters off at LAX. He was brought in for questioning and fired. The investigation led to a payment of $50,000 to the shooters by someone directly tied to this story who was questioned. But no charges have ever been filed. Then Suge is lured down to the Straight Outta Compton set where he will again be in LA County Sheriff’s jurisdiction. Again the crime scene is bungled and key witnesses are allowed to leave without giving statements or getting their information.

THE SAME INVESTIGATOR HANDLED BOTH CRIME SCENES WHICH IS A HUGE CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Then David Kenner is appointed as Suge’s attorney. Suge claims that David Kenner stole 80 million dollars from him.[2] Kenner tries to make deals with the

prosecution to sell Suge Knight down the river. On March 2nd there is a hearing to transfer the case to downtown. Suge Knight rises and fires David Kenner. Ignoring Suge there is discussion after David Kenner is fired and they try to reach a deal for Suge Knight. There is a closed-door meeting after Kenner is fired with Kenner and those transcripts have been withheld and then they were doctored before being released. On March 17th the Sheriff Investigator that handled both cases – the one embroiled in the conflict of interest visits the judge and gets him to sign a protective order that would not allow Suge Knight to have any other (incoming or outgoing) with anyone other than David Kenner. That protective order is signed 15 days after David Kenner was fired as Suge Knight’s attorney. The Sheriff’s Investigator called Russell Poole yesterday to ask about what they would discuss. Russell told the investigator that he knew that an off-duty Sheriff had participated in the attempted murder on Suge Knight. He told them that they had a dog case on their hands and that they could save themselves from ultimate embarrassment when it became public that an off-duty Sheriff participated in the attempt on Suge Knight. The investigator urged Poole to bring all of his case files on a disk to provide to investigators. He confirmed that, indeed an off-duty Sheriff had participated and asked Russell how he came to possess this information. Russell said he did not disclose the source of this information. So now Suge Knight’s life is in danger. Why? The Compton Police Department was corrupt and they were not disbanded instead they were absorbed into the LA County Sheriff’s Department. The Compton Police were involved in the murder of Tupac Shakur and the cover-up. Reggie Wright Sr. is on the full MGM surveillance tape watching Orlando Anderson be interrogated. Look at the end of the tape. Who is it that shakes Orlando Anderson’s hand and takes him away at the end of the tape? Is it the same man who knows about Russell’s visit and the intimate details of their conversation? There are still remnants of the corruption inside of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. They have access to the jail system. I believe that Suge Knight is in danger now and that they have been attempting to kill him ever since September 7, 1996 because of the hundreds of millions of dollars Death Row Records was worth at the time. If he is not removed from the Sheriff control there is a high probability he will not survive.

I like Sheriff Jim McDonnell and I ed him in his Sheriff’s campaign. I met with him last year in March and wrote an article about him. You can see it on the American News Service Website.[3] It is my opinion that Jim has no idea about the corruption that still exists within the Sheriff’s Department. There are over 18,000 employees and he has yet to clean house. Now is the time Sheriff for you to act swiftly to solve the Tupac and Biggie Murders and to do the right thing here in the memory of Russell Poole. Russell’s father was an LA County Sheriff for decades. He was well respected and he deserves for you to treat his son right. To Jim McDonnell on a personal note. Today I called you on your cell phone. I sent you numerous text messages and you have yet to respond to me. Please do the right thing for Russell Poole. It was you that set up this meeting. We discussed it on July 22nd. There needs to be a full investigation into this death with a coroner’s looking into all exotic toxins that could trigger a heart attack. Then again we know there are substances that are untraceable. Please do the right thing here.

CHAPTER THREE IS WHAT RUSSELL GAVE TO THE SHERIFF INVESTIGATORS.

I apologize for the rough form that the rest of this document is in but it was only a draft and not scheduled to be released until September 13th. I am releasing it now so that the truth has a chance of getting out there. Russell’s estate and I retain the copyright but I intend for all of you to know that we encourage you to share it with true Tupac and Biggie Fans.

CHAPTER TWO

SUGE'S ATTORNEY REACHES OUT

On July 14, 2015 Michael Carlin receives the following email:

Hello.

I am one of Suge Knight's criminal defense attorneys. I got your letter from my co-counsel Tom Mesereau.

Read your letter with great interest.

Thaddeus J. Culpepper

July 14, 2015 I called Thad at 9:25 PM

“Tom and I read your letter with great interest. We just got off of the telephone with Suge Knight. Tom read your letter and your Tupac Murder Facts to Suge in his jail cell. Suge Knight said, ‘Who the fuck are these guys and how do they know all of this? I never thought any of this information would become public.”

I was silent.

Thad broke that silence by saying, “Suge Knight verified that all of this is true!”

Russell Poole also called Thadeus and verified that Suge Knight stated it was all true.

CHAPTER THREE

INFORMATION ON TUPAC'S MURDER

Russell Poole arranged for Michael Carlin to meet with respected Fox 11 journalist, Chris Blatchford, on March 6, 2014, to discuss a confession letter to the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur that Blatchford received in 1998 from one of the alleged shooters. At that meeting Blatchford discussed his interactions with two of the shooters, one of which was supposed to take out Suge Knight. A copy of the letter was given to Carlin. Blatchford forwarded to Russell Poole a statement about the letter and the additional information he had received from the shooters and confidential informant. This clue along with all of the corroborating evidence gives us our best chance to solve this murder and bring the killers to justice.

Victims:

Marion Suge Knight

“The hit was supposed to go down at the club… the target of the hit at the club was Suge Knight.”[4] “Malcolm said he was the shooter that was supposed to take out Suge Knight.”[5] “A bounty was put on 2pac and Night.”[6] “Caffey has determined that there are three separate hit contracts on Suge Knight's life. Caffey also indicated that the Rolling 60's & Bounty Hunter Kill Squad from the Compton area have indicated that Suge will be taken out before X-mas. It was also related by Caffey that the reality of Suge being killed in Tarzana was extremely high, due to the fact that Suge is an easy target at Death Row Records.”[7]

Tupac Shakur

“Lil Half Dead was supposed to kill Tupac.”[8] “Little half dead was the one that took 2pac out.”[9] “A bounty was put on 2pac and Night.”[10]

Motive:

Revenge

The shooter, Lil ½ Dead, that killed Shakur had a revenge motive. Lil ½ Dead is Snoop Dogg’s cousin. “Death Row had begun recouping against Snoop’s five million dollar legal bill… That the victory had been financed entirely on Suge’s dime worked to legally justify the label’s position in ceasing to pay Snoop while it collected against the debt did not calm the label’s only remaining marquee superstar. As a result, the sentiment between the two parties grew all the more sour as months ed.”[11] “Knight had a falling out with Snoop-DoggieDog.”[12] “There was tension between Tupac’s and Snoop’s entourages.”[13] 3 days before the shooting Snoop had a severe falling out with both Suge and Tupac in New York. “At one point, Snoop actually feared for his life on the flight.”[14] “Little half dead and 2 pac had dispute about song’s that were taken. Little half dead was beaten down by 2 pac Soldiers.”[15] “Lil Half Dead was upset with Tupac because Tupac stole one of his songs.”[16] “Very deliberate in his aim. Um, had he been wildly shooting he would have been able to shoot Mr. Knight as well as being a larger target. He definitely knew who he was shooting… there was no hesitation… the gun came out and it was pop pop pop pop pop pop pow as soon as the arm came out.”[17] Brent Becker asked Yafeu Fula aka Kadafi why the shooter would want to do this? His answer was jealousy. He further stated that the shooter’s arm was dark black.”[18]

Money

The shooter that was hired to take out Suge Knight had the financial motive of a cashiers check for $100,000. “Danny was paid 100-thousand dollars for the hit in the form of a cashier's check.”[19]

Money, Prestige & Power

The conspirators, who ordered the hit, had a financial motive of hundreds of millions of dollars (The Shares of Death Row Records and Tupac’s music) as well as being tired of Suge Knight’s antics. “Wright wanted rights to all Tupac's material.”[20]

Means:

Guns

There were shooters, spotters, and conspirators. “Three guns were used: tech 9, .45, and a Glock.”[21] Frank Alexander says, “All I saw was the arm and the gun and right away I knew it was a Glock Automatic.”[22] “As for gun that was used, will be dropped off at the security booth at Fox 11. Please do not have stop or talk to one of my droppin off the gun.”[23] “I talked to Malcolm on the telephone and we set up a meeting. He said he would bring one of the murder weapons, and wanted to do an on camera interview to protect himself.”[24] “The letter also said that Malcolm would drop off one of the murder weapons at KTTV studios.”[25] “Tell X-con how you whant it deliverd. I don’t whant to put it in a box cause I don’t whant you thinking it’s a bomb.”[26] “When I returned to the station, security told me a young black man had tried to drop off a package

for me at the guard shack. Company policy prohibited them from accepting it.”[27] According to Kevin Hackie the gun used to kill Tupac Shakur was a Glock .40 that was confiscated by an off-duty Santa Monica Police Officer during a routine search at the House of Blues of Hussein Fatal, one of Tupac's Outlawz on July 4, 1996 when he is detained attempting to enter the venue with his Glock .40. In late July Reggie Wright s Kevin Hackie and asks him to keep tabs on the weapon. The off duty Santa Monica Officer takes the gun back to the Santa Monica Police Station. The gun was then ballistics tested by the FBI and run to see if the weapon was stolen or had been used in any crimes. There were no ballistics matches at that time so the FBI sends the weapon back to the Santa Monica Police. Sometime in August of 1996, Santa Monica Police Kevin Hackie and tell him the gun is cleared for pickup. Hackie, who was working undercover for the FBI and ATF, retrieves the gun and takes it to his handlers. They clear him to release the gun to Reggie Wright Jr. Hackie hands the gun to Reggie Wright Jr.. Subsequently the Glock .40 is used to kill rapper Tupac Shakur.[28]

White Cadillac

“The CI said the hit team trio had rented a pearl white Cadillac at the Stratosphere Hotel Las Vegas and later dumped it at a salvage yard in Baker, disassembled.”[29] “Witness Hart stated that the white car was to their right and in front of them, so she was able to see the rear of the car. Hart feels that the white car had Nevada license plates (white with blue) and felt the car was possibly a rental. Hart thinks the shooting came from the driver's side of the white car and that there was four occupants.”[30] “Turner felt the Cadillac had ‘Nevada’ rear license plates with possible numbers ‘647.’”[31] “Turner thought that the occupants of the white Cadillac may have been shooting from both sides of the car.”[32]

Radios

“While I was working at 662. I heard something over the Nextels we were carrying and what I heard was ‘Got ‘em.’ The voice was definitely one of our security that works directly for Mr. Knight. Maybe the police should have concentrated more on Death Row, the Nextel phone bills, and other things that could have helped them investigate it more in depth. I would definitely look more at Death Row than I would look at Mr. Anderson and that is what I gathered when I was at New York what I heard Pac tell Suge Knight and what I heard on the radio that night after the shots were fired. Right before me and Mr. Wright got into the vehicle to go to the hospital someone else came on the radio and said, 'Hey, don’t say nothin’ over the radio’ Mr. Wright and I were talking about what had happened and I clearly heard someone say 'don’t say nothin’ over the radio.’ But the person that said it was not homeboy security, nor was it one of our security guards to me he was a stranger but the person that said it was Caucasian definitely not African-American.”[33] A radio is significant because it implies that there were spotters as well as shooters. This also makes this just like the Biggie Smalls Murder. “He (Noel Johnson aka Big Spank) just spoke on ‘em that you know, he ‘got ‘em.’”[34]

Opportunity:

The opportunity was created on fight night in Las Vegas where every detail was being controlled by, Reggie Wright Jr., the head of Death Row Security – this was a coup ‘d’état at Death Row Records orchestrated by insiders at the record label. They tried to kill Suge Knight that night and they have been conspiring against him ever since. “He (CI) says it was Wright who – on the night of Tupac's murder – told the killers where Tupac would be, along with Suge.”[35] “There was 6 different barricades that no matter what would of happened no one would of made it out.”[36] The car is barricaded by three cars on the left, one in front, one in back and the shooter's car completes the sixth barricade.

Jurisdiction:

The conspiracy started at Death Row Records, located in Los Angeles County, California. The confession letter talks about a meeting at Balboa Park that is located in Los Angeles County, California. The actual shooting took place in Las Vegas, NV.

Suspects:

Lil’ ½ Dead aka Donald Smith is the cousin of rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg. “Little half dead was the one that took 2 pac out.”[37] Malcolm Greenridge said he saw a dark skinned arm, with a black gun, fire from the white Cadillac.[38] “Little half dead and 2 pac had dispute about song’s that were taken. Little half dead was beaten down by 2 pac Soldiers.”[39] “Lil Half Dead was upset with Tupac because Tupac stole one of his songs.”[40] “Very deliberate in his aim. Um, had he been wildly shooting he would have been able to shoot Mr. Knight as well as being a larger target. He definitely knew who he was shooting… there was no hesitation… the gun came out and it was pop pop pop pop pop pop pow as soon as the arm came out.” [41] Brent Becker asked Yafeu Fula aka Kadafi why the shooter would want to do this? His answer was jealousy. He further stated that the “shooter’s arm was dark black.”[42] Frank Alexander says, “All I saw was the arm and the gun and right away I knew it was a Glock Automatic.” Frank Alexander further stated the shooter was a dark black male.[43] Lil ½ Dead was represented by Suge Knight and Death Row Records and his contract was sold off to Priority Records. “And he was sponsord mostly by Sh Night. What Night did not know was that little half dead found out that he was being sold to Priority 1.”[44] On Lil ½ Dead’s album cover for “Dead Serious,” you can see the image of the slain Tupac Shakur at Can-Am Studios along with the slain Yak Fula.[45] Snoop Dogg calls Lil ½ Dead his enforcer. “Death Row had begun recouping against Snoop’s five million dollar legal bill… That the victory had been financed entirely on Suge’s dime worked to legally justify the label’s position in ceasing to pay Snoop while it collected against the debt did not calm

In an interview with Snoop and Lil ½ Dead with AllHipHop.com we learn: Snoop: “Like Dr. Dre, I don’ t let niggas talk bad about Dr. Dre. I can talk bad about him but y’all can’t.” Lil’ Half Dead: “And the cold part about it is, I wouldn’t let nobody talk bad about [Dre] just cause he [Snoop] love him.” Snoop: Betta not! … “It don’t matter Laker fans, Raider fans, whoever your nigga is, you ride with ’em to the fullest. If a nigga disrespect your peoples, you feel disrespected. This is my homie Half Dead right here, a nigga can’t say nothing foul about Snoop Dog in front of him. In jail, on the street, no matter where he at. I don’t give a fuck if we ain’t cool, a nigga can’t say nothing.”[50] Whiteboy aka Danny Patton "I shot that Tupac motherfucker. I was there man!" [51] “One name and I heard the name, uh I don’t know if it was Gansta White or it was something along that line.”[52] “I clearly heard someone say “don’t say nothin’ over the radio.’ But the person that said it was not homeboy security, nor was it one of our security guards to me he was a stranger but the person that said it was Caucasian definitely not African-American.”[53] “The driver was bald with a little moustache, and light skinned but not as light skinned as Kadafi. He said the driver had the face of a bitch “’cause he looked soft in the face.”[54] “Danny’s gun jammed.”[55] Malcolm Patton “I can call you on a safe number and give you details of the clothing, cars, streets, and discribe any-thing you need to know to prove that I was there, the night 2 Pac tryed to escape, like a little pee-on bitch.”[56] “The person Turner saw seated right front enger, was described as a male/black, light brown skin, short hair (cut low), in his 20's (possible late 20's).”[57] “Malcolm said he was the shooter that was supposed to take out Suge Knight.”[58] Malcolm shot twice and missed his target.[59]

Reggie Wright Jr. “He told me that Sharitha Knight and Reggie Wright were behind the murder.”[60] “Mr. Writh Jr. gave Info where 2 pac was going to be.”[61] “He says it was Wright who – on the night of Tupac's murder – told the killers where Tupac would be, along with Suge.”[62] Michael Moore tells of hearing “Got ‘em” come over Reggie Wright’s radio while he was standing next to him at Club 662.[63] Reggie Wright was responsible for disarming all of the security on the night Tupac was shot.[64] “It was all Reggie’s fault. It wasn’t even something where you could debate it. Every decision came from Reggie’s mouth.”[65] Reggie Wright Jr. is seen in the MGM surveillance video walking with a woman, possibly Sharitha Knight and then shaking hands with Orlando Anderson and leading him away.[66] Sharitha Knight: Even though Suge and Sharitha had become estranged she did stand to inherit his shares if he was killed: “She was on the paper.”[67] “He told me that Sharitha Knight and Reggie Wright were behind the murder.”[68]

Possible Co-conspirators:

Kevin Gaines – was on special assignment from two days before the Tupac Murder until two weeks after. He was in Las Vegas on the night Tupac was killed.[69] David Kenner – CI says David Kenner was at the gang summit in Balboa Park and that he is on the videotape when Reggie Wright Jr. contracted the hit. Reggie Wright Sr. –Reggie Wright Sr. tells Michael Moore his son would run the company if something happened to Suge.[70] Also, Reggie Wright Sr. is watching Orlando Anderson be interrogated by MGM Security and the Las Vegas Police immediately after the altercation with Suge Knight, Tupac Shakur and their entourage.[71] Reggie Wright Sr. participated in investigation at the Compton PD.[72] of “ICG – gear gang – ghost town – front street – 52 - A Try hoover’s and South Park”[73] There was a gang summit in Balboa Park. The gangs in attendance included: ICG= Long Beach Insane Crip Gang, Geer Gang = West Adams District of South LA; Ghost Town = Crips in Venice; Front Street = Watts Crips; 52 = Five Deuce at 52nd Street and South Broadway; A Try Hoovers = Eight Tray Hoovers - 83rd Hoovers; and South Park = 51st and Avalon.[74] “CI says at first there was a get together in Balboa Park in the San Fernando Valley for different gangs. This was disguised as a Blood/Crips truce meeting. But it was really a feeler for Wright to see how much it would take to get Tupac hit. Wright wanted rights to all Tupac's material.”[75] “Those not in on the plan that night were sent to the 662 Club in Las Vegas.”[76]

CHAPTER FOUR

WHEN YA WORTH MORE DEAD THEY TRY TO PUT A BULLET IN YA HEAD

How many music groups have broken up over money? Today, “Straight Outta Compton” is number one at the box office. The message of that movie was the love and struggle of brothers over money and success. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre left NWA because they didn’t feel they got their fair share of the money that was rolling in from album sales. Jerry Heller is painted as a greedy businessman who stole money from the artists. Suge Knight is painted as Jerry Heller’s replacement in stealing the artist’s money. “Suge never paid any of the artists what they were owed. In fact he wouldn't even let them examine the books. None of the artists knew how much money they were making or how much debt they had racked up because Suge would never tell them. By doing this he was able to keep his artists in the dark and maintain control over them, which is exactly what he did.”[77] All of Suge’s current troubles trace back to September 7th, 1996 – the night he and Tupac were green lit for murder. An off-duty Sheriff let the shooters into the 1Oak nightclub on August 24th, 2014, in West Hollywood. Sheriffs would respond to that venue and the Compton location where Suge Knight was set up on the set of Straight Outta Compton. They chose the venues because of their ties into the Sheriffs Department because the corrupt Compton Police Department had been absorbed into the Sheriffs Department instead of being disbanded. An off-duty Compton Police Lieutenant who would become a Sheriff participated in setting up the Orlando Anderson scuffle that revoked Knight’s probation. He had created something valuable and not just in the hood but in all of America you only own something as long as you can keep it. When there are millions of dollars at stake, or in the case of Death Row Records, hundreds of millions of dollars, there are forces that arise to steal what isn’t theirs. Suge Knight was targeted for murder and when they couldn’t kill him they set the legal mechanisms far beyond his understanding into motion. They built a frame

and they put him squarely into that frame so they could plunder the loot he had acquired. But since Suge Knight didn’t die, they still needed him. A week after Tupac’s death Suge Knight was interviewed by MTV but prevented by his attorney from discussing the shooting[78] where he sat next to Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. Why would his lawyer, prevent Knight from addressing the shooting, when Knight was a victim in the crime? Suge Knight’s attorney wasn’t the only one urging Suge not to talk about what he saw the night both he and Tupac were shot. In polite society it is called witness testimony. In subculture it is called snitching. Snitching is breaking the code of silence known in the mafia as “omerta” and is punishable by death. of the subculture, including gangs, cartels, and organized crime watch the movies “Scarface,” “The Godfather Trilogy,” “Goodfellas,” and “Donny Brasco,” over and over patterning their lives after the gangsters depicted by Hollywood. Snitching is dangerous in subculture. That is why law enforcement places such a high value on reliable information and goes to great lengths to protect sources by keeping them confidential. When subculture infiltrates law enforcement it becomes extremely dangerous for Confidential Reliable Informants. The trust they have for their handlers is swiftly breached and they are left to fend for themselves in the dangerous world of subculture. Fear of retribution compromises investigations, coerces witnesses, and weakens the safety that we must have to enjoy freedom. There are many murderers – people that have cut short a human life – that have not been brought to justice because of a few well-placed “Chaos Merchants.” Spineless leaders play into these Chaos Merchants hands by failing to do the jobs they took an oath to perform. They, in effect, are complicit in aiding the murderers to carry out these acts of cutting human lives short. The Rampart Scandal only touched the surface of what was really going on in Los Angeles and the leadership at the time chose to protect those murderers instead of bringing them to justice. This isn’t just murder. This is the worst kind of murder – a murder in the first degree: A planned execution – for which the death penalty is given. Now it is time for justice to be served. Who is going to champion this cause? Who is going to bring killers into court to be tried by their peers? Who is going to purge the Chaos Merchants? This is really a story of a dysfunctional family. The family are all gangsters. They act out their rivalries in far different ways than the typical American family. Tales of East Coast and West Coast feuds are based in reality

but are misleading as an explanation of what happened. “Death Row Records Executives blamed Wallace and Bad Boy Records for Shakur’s Death.”[79] Your enemies cannot hurt you like your family can. Oversimplification of a gang turf war also fails to take into all of the dynamics of the dysfunctional family that was composed of both Bloods and Crips. Certainly when the family began to feud there was a division down gang lines with some crossover. But looking outside of the family for causes isn’t consistent with reality. The family was infamous. They were on the stage and in the limelight. They were at the core of the 90’s music industry that embraced controversial gangster rap. “It's not only the music that's notorious. The rappers are as well. Snoop Doggy Dogg is on trial for participating in a murder in Los Angeles. Tupac Shakur has been convicted of sexually abusing a fan in a New York hotel room, and has done prison time. Dr. Dre recently served a five-month work-release sentence for violating probation on an earlier assault charge. But like a latter-day Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown, Suge treats his artists like beloved children, even when they break the law. He protects them, gets them legal help, bails them out.”[80] But what he doesn’t do is pay them. “From 1992 - 1996, Death Row Records grossed over $300 million dollars in revenue. Out of that, about $70 million in profit came back to the label. That $70 million should have been divided up fairly between Suge and Dre, then the artists should have gotten paid what they deserved, right? But when Dr. Dre left in 1996, he left broke. When Snoop left in 1998, he left broke. When Nate Dogg and the Dogg Pound left, they left broke. And when 2pac died, he pretty much died broke. Well if the artists didn't really benefit from that $70 million, then who did? That answer is pretty easy. Suge Knight did. So did David Kenner.”[81] “In the beginning, it was just us, the chronic, and the chicken. [laughs] You got talent, you got chronic, you got liquor, and you got Dr. Dre? That’s what you need for success right there!”[82]

“Look, when you're black and from the ghetto and in Beverly Hills, there are going to be problems. I represent the ghetto. I represent the good and the bad, what can be and what is. And some people are scared of that."[83] – Suge Knight

The Coup ‘d’état at Death Row Records[84] was already underway. There are many sources that this was not only a hit on Tupac but also a hit on Suge Knight.

Those sources the 1998 Confession letter given to well-respected Fox 11 journalist, Chris Blanchford as well as his conversations with two of the shooters that night. Kevin Hackie, Waymond Anderson, and Gregory Johnson all confirm this. “Well he (Noel Johnson aka Big Spank) spoke of the hit that was supposed been taken out on, uh, on Suge Knight. But that’s all he spoke of was the hit on Suge.”[85] "Capt. Ibarra, Sgt. Bolton & SLO Knox met with Det Caffey. Info was related by Det Caffey DSD/CCAS, that since the shooting of Tupac Shakur things have heated up in South Central L.A. & the Compton area between the Crips & Bloods. Through Depts. sources & confidential reliable informants, Caffey has determined that there are three separate hit contracts on Suge Knight's life. Caffey also indicated that the Rolling 60's & Bounty Hunter Kill Squad from the Compton area have indicated that Suge will be taken out before X-mas. It was also related by Caffey that the reality of Suge being killed in Tarzana was extremely high, due to the fact that Suge is an easy target at Death Row Records.”[86] Jewell talks about “the chaos that was going on in and around Can-Am”[87] “Ha'mmonds said, ‘Me and Suge Knight reacquainted ourselves from our little escapades in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and we reminisced and laughed and jived and bull-shitted about it.’ Their relationship became more serious when Knight began to rely upon Ha'mmonds for physical protection (in prison). Knight apparently understood that the Rolling Sixties Crips had wanted him dead. On top of that, Knight 'wouldn't even trust his own Bloods associates,’ Ha'mmonds said, 'because a lot of them wanted to do something to him there as well.' Knight turned to the Muslims and brothers who either were, or had been, of the BGF (Black Guerrilla Family), explained Ha'mmonds: ‘He made sure we had money on our books, made sure that our families was taken care of.’ Over time, Knight began to rely on Ha'mmonds in almost every detail of daily life.”[88] Suge Knight said, “so when – thanks to God – I was able to make a little money and do these things, I done them. But instead of someone giving me applause, they slandered my name. A few times, I was treated like a wild animal. And the way you treat a wild animal is: you either catch him and hunt him down or throw him in a cage. Or kill him.”[89] But doesn’t it just make sense that Suge Knight was green lit to be killed? Suge

Knight was sitting next to Tupac when bullets rang out. Was it really just a hit on Tupac? No way!!! Suge Knight was also set to die that night. He somehow managed to survive the attack but how did he get there? Suge Knight was so easy to manipulate. “Suge is the prime example, you can take a person out of the ghetto, but you can’t mentality-wise. David Kenner is the brains in everything. David Kenner is the one who put everything together. To this day (May 1998), I mean, there is communications back and forth with David to Reggie every day.”[90] It was 1996, just four years after the Rodney King verdict sparked the LA Riots. The OJ Simpson verdict had followed with Johnny Cochran dealing the race card from the bottom of the deck. Suge Knight would occasionally play the race card too… who could blame him? He was constantly pulled over and harassed by cops until he hired a white driver to shuttle him around. There were rumors of money laundering, cocaine distribution, and weapons caches. The investigations by the FBI, ATF, IRS, and local police spent tens of millions of dollars with virtually no arrests to show for all of those man-hours and all of that money. “(Max Ciampoli) infiltrated the Nazi Party at the highest level. The evil in Hollywood with ive aggressive behavior far exceeds what I experienced with the Nazis.”[91] Death Row Records was the most popular gangster rap record label. “There was cash like you could not imagine.”[92] The magnet for West Coast rappers and located in entertainment capital of the world known for the ive aggressive behavior of talent agents or managers who would ively work against their clients best interests. Two of the Death Row team, David Kenner and Reggie Wright Jr., would redefine the limits of ive aggressive behavior as they worked hard to keep Suge free from a probation violation they orchestrated and controlled. They were responsible for getting evidence and testimony submitted to the court through the Compton Police Department that would send Suge Knight to prison. Mark Friedman said of David Kenner, “when you have somebody’s intellect and his expertise in dealing within the court system – which he was an expert. He was not only an expert in dealing with prosecutors, because he was one, dealing

with judges, he had a very very keen knowledge of the inner workings of the judicial system.”[93] Kenner and Wright Jr. were busy disassembling Death Row Records and plundering the spoils of their conquest. They plotted to kill Suge[94] and if unsuccessful put him in prison so they could take his money and assets. As Kenner predicted, Suge Knight took the bait when he suggested that Steven Cantrock must go because of the law enforcement probes and Suge was feeling paranoid – extremely paranoid ever since bullets were fired into his car in Las Vegas and Tupac had died. Gutting the financial records was a great cover story to create additional confusion inside what had been (up until September 7, 1996), a delicate balance inside of Death Row Records. Kenner fueled the flames of that paranoia. “The ant that was put in protective custody, he lived out in Calabasas, but they basically went to this guy’s house about 2:00, 3:00 in the morning with guns drawn and everything, Suge and the boys did, and basically wanted him to tear up the records. I heard this through – at the time David Kenner still had this driver, I want to say Jose or Jesus, whatever, he used to drive David around in a Cherokee, that they wanted him to sign a document that he had stole like 3 or 4 million dollars, funneled it, and then I guess at that time that is when the IRS started their actual inquiry into things.”[95] In fact, the record label was worth half-a-billion dollars. If Suge Knight was murdered Death Row Records could have been properly sold to professionals in the business to clean up the company and run it the way record executives know how to run a music label. Without Suge, nobody at Death Row possessed the skillset to run a music compan – everybody left was looking for the next score. David Kenner and Reggie Wright Jr. would have to settle for a smash and grab – but then again, that is what thieves do. The music industry is filled with thieves. Nobody ever really gets a proper ing, they reasoned. None of the artists really get paid what they are owed. And now that the financial records had been destroyed nobody would ever know what they were entitled to receive. This score was big and they had successfully taken it down. There was at least a hundred million lying around that could be bled while Suge was cooling his jets in prison. When was Suge going to realize he had been played? If they continued to make the right moves, Suge Knight would never know what had really happened. If they didn’t Suge Knight would retaliate. He would be brutal. They were going to have to take out Suge’s inner circle[96] while Suge was in prison and they were going to have to control his communication with the outside.[97]

It would have been so much easier if Suge Knight had caught a bullet and died. Was it that tough to find good help? Gun jam?[98] Really? The $100,000 cashiers check[99] wasn’t refunded… where were the people that stood by the services they provided? Where is the better business bureau to report misrepresentation of criminal activities? These were supposed to be hardened gangsters who knew what they were doing. Do any of them realize how much effort went into putting that car - at that intersection - at that moment? No matter, because Kenner already factored incompetence into the plan. If they ever planned another murder they were going to hire a professional shooter and use ammunition that pierced an automobile.[100] There would be no more excuses. If Tupac had survived the attack it would have spelled disaster. At least he was dead. For a while when it looked like Tupac might recover, there were many meetings on the Death Row Records side to shore things up. Those six days still created problems as all of Tupac’s family and friends got a chance to meet each other and to talk. None of them were saying nice things about Death Row and none of them believed the rumors Death Row Records was circulating about Sean Puffy Combs being behind the shooting. All of the conversations and speculation couldn’t change the fact that the seventeen million dollars Tupac was owed at the time of his death[101] from “All Eye’z On Me’s” recent success could be concealed a while longer… long enough to steal that money and more. Tupac’s money alone made the effort to kill Suge Knight worthwhile. And who was Tupac anyway, to think he could fire David Kenner?[102] Now the “little pee-on bitch”[103] had paid with his life. His music (hundreds of songs) was secure. There would be many album releases and a steady stream of revenue for years if the whole thing wasn’t shut down by the government whose constant presence loomed. Michael Harris aka “Harry-O” was also looming – his money got the entire ball rolling.[104] The spin doctoring it took to get him on board with killing Suge Knight had come in handy with the gangs.[105] Lies are powerful manipulators; deceit is a powerful tool to curb human behavior. Now only a few details to mop up. Suge surviving the attack had complicated things but that wasn’t a problem for Kenner, a genius that could react to any fluid situation and re-plot the course – on the fly. The hit on Tupac and Suge was bungled. So much of it had been executed just like a military operation. And just like a military operation there was an after action meeting to determine what went wrong. The radios, routes, spotters, and vehicle maneuvering had worked so well but the shooters were most likely high as gang are known to get drunk or high before a shooting of that type. The shooter that shot at Tupac was quite effective but he had shot into the car

that absorbed so much of the impact of the bullets. It was a lucky shot that ricocheted off of Tupac’s finger into his lung that would be ruled the official cause of his death. If they were ever going to do this again they would need a professional shooter with ice water running through his veins – like the shooters that killed Mickey Thompson. They were cool and collected during that execution. Mickey begged for mercy for his wife and the shooter pulled Thompson’s wife in front of Mickey so he could see her when she was executed. He then walked calmly over and executed grieving Mickey Thompson. Then coolly the shooters mounted bicycles and rode off into the sunrise. Yes, they needed a shooter like that for future operations. They would also need to use armor piercing rounds. Suge was aware that David Kenner’s loyalty was purchased a day at a time. Kenner – an upgrader attorney – was constantly looking for a bigger money pot. He had jumped from Barry Minkow to Michael “Harry-O” Harris to Suge. So if Suge was going to keep Kenner on a leash he would have to remain Kenner’s rainmaker. Suge had become Kenner’s best source of money and cases. “David is the mastermind. David has put everything together. David Kenner is the total brain.”[106] A good lawyer knows the law; a great lawyer knows the judge. But the best lawyers in Los Angeles Criminal Defense, including Kenner, were part of the “Drug Club,” an elite cartel of attorneys who handled all of the big cases and were wired into the system able to “fix” things that needed fixing. They garnered favor by steering cases away from potentially embarrassing trouble spots for the politicians, prosecution, or law enforcement and in turn got favors for their clients or if their clients were broke and no longer useful revenue streams, The Drug Club, could have those clients banished to the nethermost parts of the criminal justice system – where they could never be a threat to anyone. Kenner was a powerful ally but a treacherous foe. Kenner was growing restless – bored. A bored genius surrounded by temptation is a dangerous catalyst. But Suge made a fatal mistake with Kenner. He talked about him behind his back. Lydia Harris recalls, “Suge could care less about David and he kept on telling me that and I said David, Suge don’t like you and David would always say let me hear him say that. So what I did was, which I shouldn’t, I made a 3way call and I let David hear what Suge had to say and from then on I seen a change.”[107] “David Kenner is the biggest con of them all.”[108] “Ain’t nothin’ but a G thang” Kenner would say in his urban white style

amplifying his fish out of water status in the world of gangster rap. For a man of superior intelligence; the pickings were easy. Everything was coming together nicely. Suge Knight was the only thing Suge needed to be – predictable. He was the one constant in the world of variables. He wasn’t a snitch so he would never tell what he knew if questioned by law enforcement and he could be counted on to enact violence at the drop of a hat – just like at the MGM – where no one was thinking about the cameras – except for David Kenner and Reggie Wright Jr. If they couldn’t kill Suge they could easily manipulate him – right into the place they needed him to be – jail and then prison – where he couldn’t legally conduct any business. He would sign over the responsibilities of the record label to those he trusted – he would have to. If Kenner was involved in the murder of Tupac and attempted murder of Suge Knight on September 7th, 1996 he would have recently (2015) represented Suge Knight in his murder case with a severe conflict of interest – but Kenner is no stranger to conflict of interest. Having represented Tupac, Suge Knight, and Snoop Dogg while he was the attorney of record for Death Row Records was a severe conflict of interest. “Pac didn’t have any attorneys. His attorney was David Kenner.”[109] Yasmin Fula pointed this out to Tupac and on August the 27th David Kenner was fired just days prior to Tupac being shot. Tupac was beginning to get a team of people around him that would begin looking into things. Tupac’s mother represented herself in a New York court when she was on trial for murder and she won her case. Surely Kenner could have faced disbarment for this conflict of interest if Tupac Shakur had lived. But David was very skilled at orchestrating continuous conflict of interest. He set up the Longo’s – Larry, Frank, and Gina. Once again he was the catalyst. He asked Larry for a favor – to go on the hook for Suge. Larry obliged by recommending probation to the Judge. He vouched for Suge and he would be quoted in the media. It was also Kenner who handed Gina’s tape to Suge, he rented the Malibu beach house from Frank, and it was Kenner that moved Suge in. The timing was superb. The dime was dropped just after the Las Vegas shooting. Well played! The DA’s office was in full-blown damage control mode. The LA Times was getting payback for all the times that the DA’s office had said, “no comment” on important cases. This was a bruise that wouldn’t easily heal. There was only one person that this would be taken out on and that was Suge. They were going to throw the book at him. He would receive no mercy for his participation in the

Orlando Anderson scuffle and that was all captured on videotape that Kenner entered into the official record. See, if you can’t kill Suge Knight, you simply send him to prison where under California Law he cannot conduct any business. The Justice Department’s racketeering probes that began in the spring of 1996 would dissipate. The ATF, IRS and LAPD investigations, focusing on allegations of violent acts, links to street gangs, drug trafficking, and money laundering, that began in June will mostly come to naught because they all see that Suge Knight is paying a debt to society. From October 22nd when Suge is arrested until he is sentenced in February they all continue to gather information but after they learn he is headed to prison and his story is well covered by the media those investigations all evaporate. Law enforcement will soon have much bigger fish to fry. In the words of Led Zepplin, “yes there are two paths you can go by but in the long run, there’s still time to change the road you’re on.” “I don’t want to listen to what Suge has to say. Suge is a regressive person. Let him be the leader again and we all be picking cotton. Idiot! His head ain’t right. He don’t know whether he want to still fight people and bully people, or if he want to get his respect back. While he’s straddling the fence, that’s like letting the blind man drive the car.”[110] A prophetic statement by DJ Quik considering the murder charges pending against Suge right now and part of Suge’s defense is that he is partially blind. Suge Knight has given so many interviews with messages to the children always talking about his hope of helping kids avoid the pitfalls that lie in wait around every corner in the inner city. Hopefully if he ever regains his freedom he will dedicate his life to realizing this dream – for nobody could teach better lessons from empirical experience in the music industry surrounded by true friends who sacrificed their lives to Suge’s dream as well as those who feigned friendship while seeking his destruction. What would Suge tell the children if given the chance? Perhaps there would be a message of hope and inspiration to save tens of thousands from heading down the road to destruction. All of the blood that was spilt must find a higher purpose and meaning as readers who study the history of Death Row Records strive to build upon truth and love instead of the treacherous alternative.

CHAPTER FIVE

DEALIN’ WITH THE DEVIL DEVIL DEALIN’ CARDS AIN’T ON THE LEVEL

Michael Harris was beginning to send thugs to visit Suge requesting repayment of original investment and profits from the record label. Suge's inner circle was turning them away. “Apparently Suge had double crossed Harry-O and Lydia Harris when he switched from Time Warner to Interscope for distribution. He somehow managed to redo the contracts and cut them out of everything. He even denied them ever being part of the record label. He took the phone that was designated to accept Harry-O’s calls away by putting a block on it so no more collect calls could come through.”[111] The original deal for Death Row Records was a partnership between The Doc (35%) Dr. Dre (35%) Suge Knight (15%) and Dick Griffey (15%). “I was the first one signed to the label, but a lot of things weren’t etched in stone when I go there. I met Dick Griffey, and one of the first things he asked was for me to sing for him. So I sang for him. And then, there was this entity that we started to call the studio. We didn’t have a lot of money in the beginning; we had some, but not a lot.” – Jewell[112] When The DOC had his accident and could no longer sing his value to the venture was severely diminished and his percentage evaporated. Michael Harris aka “Harry-O” came up with the seed money, some of which compensated Dick Griffey, and Death Row was originally formed as a subsidiary of Godfather entertainment. Lydia Harris was involved at the record label early on and Death Row Records birthed, “The Chronic.” At the same time there was a lawsuit filed by Ruthless Records for Knight’s role in taking Dr. Dre, The DOC, and Michel’le from the label. Right before “The Chronic” is released Death Row Records is officially formed as a corporation with two equal shareholders: Suge Knight and Dr. Dre. Michael and Lydia Harris were out. There is an official dispute of this . Waymond Anderson tells of Suge

Knight and Death Row Records actually laundering money for Michael and Lydia Harris instead of putting up the seed money. In either case, Michael Harris was upset that Death Row Records achieved stratospheric success and he was not given a taste of the profits. He took that personally. David Kenner was lying to Harris and placing the blame at Suge Knight’s feet. Michael Harris had been convicted on drug charges establishing one of the largest drug trafficking rings in America. He had ties to many of the gangs that distributed his product. He was a dangerous man and very upset with Suge Knight. Even though Harris was incarcerated he had a long reach from prison and money to make things happen. Waymond Anderson says that Michael and Lydia Harris were part of a plot to overthrow Death Row Records at the time that Tupac Shakur was killed. Later Anderson says, "there was money that was laundered through Death Row Records by Lydia while Michael Harris was in jail, and then they later came back and tried to say that they gave Suge money to start Death Row Records, which is totally untrue. A lot of people don't understand the dynamics or the mechanics of how the record industry works. You can get one hit records and a record label will advance you 25 million dollars the next morning. So there was no reason for Suge to have to get drug money to start that. His "187 Cop" provided them with enough cash to develop his record label. But at the same time, when you grow up in inner cities the hard way, it's hard to walk away from the individuals you grow up with. So Suge still participated with individuals who were involved in criminal activity, and in doing so he laundered some money for Michael Harris, and then that later came back to bite him in the butt to where she and Michael felt that they should be provided profits from Death Row Records. And when Suge basically kicked her out, Michael and herself took that very personal, and from there it was on trying to get back at Suge Knight."[113] Waymond Anderson, though unreliable, seems to confirm that there was a plot to take over Death Row Records. He states that the plot was by Lydia and Michael Harris aka Harry-O. Harry-O was d with Freeway Rick Ross and they were both d with Crips who they worked with to move their drugs around the country. It isn't a stretch to think that Michael Harris could have easily reached back to people he knew from his drug running days to topple Death Row Records. He could have easily reached out to Reggie Wright Jr. as is indicated in the confession letter to carry out his plan. Robert J. Frank asks Anderson in his deposition, "you indicated that Michael Harris, I think you said Lydia Harris, and who -- who else can you name as part of that conspiracy?"

Anderson answers, "those are all that I can do at -- at this point."[114]

CHAPTER SIX

HE WAZ THE KING, HE WORE THE CROWN TRAITORS BROUGHT HIM DOWN

Suge had been a protégé of Dick Griffey who founded “Sound of Los Angeles Records” commonly known as SOLAR. Suge brought Mario Johnson aka “Chocolate” to SOLAR with a claim that Johnson had written “Ice, Ice Baby” for Vanilla Ice. Griffey immediately understood the claim. Suge confronted Ice about the claim in what has become music industry legend and Suge Knight lore and like most legends is disputed. The claim that Suge dangled Vanilla Ice by his ankles off of the balcony at the Riot House (adding to the music history there) to get him to sign off on the royalty payments has become one of the calling cards Suge Knight never needed to present whenever he met with anyone connected to music. Suge’s reputation precedes him to this day. But Suge had a fatal flaw – under that thick skin – Suge Knight had a heart. When Suge Knight was riding high all of those around him benefitted. Every year at Thanksgiving he would give out turkeys in the community, every year at Christmas he would buy toys for the kids, and on Mother’s day he would host a luncheon for 500 single mothers. When Suge Knight had money he spread it around the community. When Suge was in jail at Christmas of 1996 he authorized $50,000 to be used for toys for the kids of Compton. Only $3,000 actually got to the kids. Reggie and his friends, all of which lived lives of privilege, hi-jacked the rest for their own Christmas.[115] Suge was responsible for giving all of his friend’s opportunities within the company and for starting new ventures to keep his friends employed. Inside Suge Knight was calm. He reasoned that he had created that delicate balance inside the record label. “Suge ran the label with an iron fist. He had to have his say in everything that went on at Death Row. No matter what a person needed or wanted from the label, if they didn’t have Suge’s approval, then it couldn’t happen until they received it.”[116] He needed to be tough or the

criminal forces would overpower him. But not too tough or he would face arrests and prison. So far the team he put together had insulated him from career ending entanglements. They had his back – he could relax and enjoy an evening in Vegas to celebrate his celebrity. The drama of the record label was ongoing – he enjoyed it – he craved it – and sometimes he caused it. Everything had been navigated with precision through dealings with Dick Griffey, Harry-O, Lydia, the record companies, artists, criminal cases, and crisis management. When the knife cuts away from you it is a beautiful sight but when the two edged blade is pushed back the pain is unbearable – even for a tough guy. But what did he have to fear? He was surrounded by his best friends – who would remain loyal until the end. Or would they? It only took one traitor to upset all of that work, planning, and risk-taking. One night in Vegas it would all come crumbling down. Suge bounced from trap to trap like a Ping-Pong ball. He had no idea about what was going on around him. To Suge the loyalty of Neckbone, Jake, Heron, Hen-Dog, Poochie, Buntry, and the rest of his MOB Piru homies were guaranteed. They all vowed to pursue Money Over Bitches (MOB) and if necessary to give their lives for each other. Most of them would remain loyal until the end. That end would come far too soon for all of them but for Jake, Suge’s best friend, he would be the first and Suge would take it very hard. Suge Knight made his dislike for Sean Puffy Combs public. On the night of August 3, 1995 onstage at the Source Awards, Suge levels his sights directly at Sean “Puffy” Combs when he says, “Any artist out there, who wanna be an artist and wanna stay a star and don’t want the executive producer trying to be all in the video[s], all over the record, dancin’, come to Death Row.”[117] He saw Combs “as an imitator that was putting out weak versions of Death Row’s Product.”[118] At the Platinum Club in Atlanta, there is a confrontation between five black males, allegedly representatives of Sean “Puffy” Combs, on one side and Suge and Jai Robles on the other side. The five men are ordered to leave the club and Suge and Jai are instructed to remain behind for 10 – 15 minutes. They leave after only a few minutes and Jai is shot when getting into the limousine. Jake would give his life protecting Suge. Suge saw this as an attempt by Puffy to have him killed. Puffy claims he was talking to Suge at the time shots ring out; Jake Robles, Suge’s friend, fellow Blood, and bodyguard, is killed. Suge accuses Puffy of

being involved, but he responds, “What are you talking about? I was standing right here with you!" The shooter reportedly climbs into a limousine filled with Puffy’s friends.[119] Wolf – Sean Comb’s bodyguard is blamed for the murder even though an offduty police officer was chasing Wolf into the parking lot at the time. But either way there is a gaping hole in Suge Knight’s heart and this galvanizes his hatred for Sean Puffy Combs and escalates the East Coast West Coast feud. If “Jake” had lived tensions would not have elevated. Reggie Wright Jr.’s role may have been severely altered providing him with far less opportunity to betray Suge. But that one night in Atlanta had galvanized Suge’s hatred for Sean Combs. He was obsessed with getting even. He was obsessed with making Sean Combs hurt the way he hurt when he lost his best friend. This murder was a turning point of the East Coast rivalry with the West Coast. Jewell tells that Suge held grudges, “Deep inside I knew he was still pissed and would eventually do something to get me back; that was just the way Suge operated. He never let someone get over on him. He made sure he got his chance to fuck them over no matter how long it took.”[120] “Bruce Richardson, a high-school friend of Suge’s, had become a rival, having built up his own company to mirror Death Row. Their problems came to a head: Bruce knew he was being screwed over on royalties; his artist, Dramacydal, did background vocals on Tupac’s album All Eyez on Me. Suge refused to pay. That May, Bruce approached him in the club and slapped him up. Two weeks later, Richardson lay dead outside his own home in Los Angeles, with two Bloods suspected of killing him.”[121] “An enraged Richardson confronted Suge a short time later at a nightclub where he astonished onlookers by slapping Knight around until three of his thugs jumped in a drove Bruce off. Publicly humiliated, Suge made no secret of the fact that he wanted revenge. “Two weeks later, Bruce Richardson was shot to death in his home. Kevin Hackie named Suge Knight’s thugs Neckbone and Buntry as the likely hit men – they were the guys that did this sort of thing for Suge, Hackie said.”[122] But Bruce Richardson would never open his door for just anyone. He was also unmatched in his hand-to-hand combat skills. When investigators showed up

Richardson’s safe had been opened and music masters had been removed. There were those that speculated that police dressed in uniform were to blame. “There were a lot of guys that would do shit on the side but they didn’t come around. It was handled on the outside.”[123]

CHAPTER SEVEN

DEATH ROW POLICE DISTURB THE PEACE

“On June 2, 1996, the LAPD and Death Row Records representatives met to discuss dissatisfaction with armed security personnel, and the possibility of armed confrontations between police officers and security personnel or gang . Issues regarding off-duty police officers employed by Death Row Records also were discussed. Prior to Wallace's death, the LAPD also discovered that Death Row Records employed Leslie Gaulden, an Inglewood School Police Officer. On October 23, 1996, Alwyn Gittens, a San Bernadino County sheriffs reserve officer working security for Death Row Records, disrupted an interview between the LAPD and Death Row Records employees. Based on the above occurrences, the LAPD knew or reasonably should have known that its off-duty police officers worked as security guards alongside suspected and convicted criminals for Death Row Records. In fact, the off-duty police officers accompanied gang during drug deals and acted as their 'lookouts and advisors.' Moreover the off duty officers monitored police frequencies, assisted in choosing locations for drug transactions, and shared information regarding police tactics.”[124] “Reggie is the go-between, between Suge and all kinds of crazy fuckin’ shit.”[125] “In May 1996, Death Row Records was investigated for zoning violations associated with numerous violent crimes. Investigating officers reported, ‘There are armed security guards at this location in plain clothes and in security uniforms. These security officers are off-duty police officers ... employed by Death Row Records.'”[126] Suge laid out the plan, “Well, look, we can’t have our homies out here basically carrying guns, we want to legalize this. Let’s set up our own Death Row security set under another name.”[127] It was a “set” just like Bloods and Crips create but it consisted of law enforcement personnel who had badges and guns and were paid to avert problems for those under the protection of Death Row Records. Suge Knight put up $300,000 to get the “set” created. It is unknown if

there were gang ritual killings to gain hip in the “Set” but on Frank Alexander’s secret tape recordings we learn that Suge was covertly asking Frank Alexander to “take somebody out.”[128] “There was a lot of guys that did shit on the side but they didn’t come around. All that shit was handled from outside.”[129] “There were times I would drive and I’d get out and it would just be Reggie and Suge in the middle of fuckin’ nowhere. And I know Reggie was, I mean, they shared the same drawers, a Mob Piru would get out of fuckin’ line and Reggie would sort it out.”[130] “Suge had them walking around scared. The security he hired was also used as ‘muscle’ around the studio. He had them smacking niggas up when they got out of line.”[131] The Death Row Police brought immediate results. Having guns and badges to deal with any and all situations was creating a layer of protection beyond expectations. Also, the tactical awareness was rubbing off on the non-cop security personnel. Having police scanners to monitor all frequencies was now incorporated into Death Row standard operating procedure. There were additional opportunities for side business as some of the cops had major cash flow needs beyond their cop salaries. How far would they go? That was a question to be asked on a case-by-case basis. But it didn’t appear that there were limitations with a handful of the guys. After all this was a “set” a “cop set” but everybody that was really in the game new what that meant. Having insiders at LAPD was also paying off. When evidence that could be used to convict Snoop Dogg needed to disappear from an LAPD evidence locker, the Death Row Police came through. Kevin Hackie recalls in a June 6, 2000 interview that in February Reggie Wright Jr. when talking about Snoop Dogg’s murder case “stated that evidence related to that case came up missing from LAPD property room.” He would only know this if he was somehow responsible for the evidence going missing. “The evidence in Snoop’s murder trial came up missing from an LAPD property room. That is why Snoop was acquitted.”[132] Sharitha’s boyfriend was certainly the most likely suspect in that crime along with his good friends Rafael Perez and David Mack. Having an LAPD boyfriend did have certain side benefits. Snoop’s album “Murder is the Case” poked fun at the prosecutors who worked hard to send him away for life but came up short. At a hearing in Snoop Dogg’s murder trial it is disclosed that key evidence is missing from the LAPD evidence locker. “Defense attorneys have maintained that the lost 9-millimeter

casings might have been useful to match bullets found in Woldemariam's body. They also said the bloody shirt was crucial in determining if the victim was shot at close range or might have been twisting when he was shot. Defense attorneys contend that Woldemariam was reaching into his waistband for a gun when he was shot.”[133] The trial run of the new “Death Row Police” debuted during the beating of Kelly Jamerson at the El Rey Theater. That night a sign above the theater read ‘Death Row Private Party Guest List Only.’[134] “On March 13, 1995, a gang member was murdered at a Death Row Records event held at the El Rey Theater. The police report states, ‘Many of the security people at the party were off-duty police officers, from ... [the] LAPD, all working for Wrightway Security. The victim was beaten by numerous Blood gang while the off-duty police officers watched.’”[135] “The victim was beaten to death at the theater. Many of the security people at the party were off duty police officers, from Long Beach P.D., Compton P.D., Inglewood P.D., Hawthorne P.D., and LAPD, all working for Wrightway Security. The victom was beaten by numerous Blood gang while the off duty police officers watched. When the police arrived the off duty officers left the scene without giving a statement.”[136] There were numerous officers actually present at the beating. “Officers S. Meade #30401 and his partner C. Canales #30214 observed the beating as it continued in the west portion of the lobby. The officers had been monitoring the party after an earlier '415 Fight' radio call at the location (Incident #5072005053).”[137] In spite of witnessing the event they are never referenced as witnesses in the report. The anonymous callers all put DJ Quik in the frame for the murder. Curious timing! "It was significant," he said, when asked about the Death Row era. "I (DJ Quik) think at that point Suge was just -- He became real powerful from Interscope ... Suge wanted to look out for all the artists he felt weren't getting taken care of in the industry. So, that's why we all gravitated towards him. At that point I was going through it with (record label) Profile. Profile had this thing where (when) they didn't want to pay you, they put you on suspension. 'My artist is on suspension.' So, I stayed on suspension because they didn't want to pay me. It was just weird, so Suge stepped in. Became my manager."[138] Was the El Rey Murder of Kelly Jamerson nothing more than a negotiation with DJ Quick? The investigation also puts Suge’s best friends “Buntry” and “Jake”

in the cross-hairs. But Death Row Damage control had worked. No charges were ever filed and the case was cleared by homicide investigators. The “Death Row Police” had every reason to grow bold. MC Eiht recalls the incident, “‘We fin to just start a ruckus.’ And it was only three of them, and there was a whole club full of cats [from other gangs]. But, that’s how they felt: ‘Us three fin’ to go up in here with this sea of Quik’s people and Bloods and other factions and we fin to go stand our ground and let ‘em know we from Tragniew Park and this is how it’s gonna go down.’”[139] Suge Knight grew bold. He grew ferocious. His lion mane was just beginning to show and he was untouchable. “At the party following Snoop’s acquittal, Suge noticed that four of the jurors had shown up: They sipped champagne, gorged themselves on steak and lobster, and mingled with the label’s acts and associates. Tupac Shakur celebrated the fact that All Eyez on Me had debuted at No. 1. Suge told his lackeys he was renaming the company: From then on, it would be known as the New and Untouchable Death Row.”[140] Simone Green tells of being beaten by Suge Knight and his henchmen. She tried to call the police from the parking lot but they didn’t come. “Someone from the hospital also called the police, but they never came. This was the second attempt to file a police report and it too went unanswered. It was beginning to feel like an instant cover up.”[141] “On December 18, 1995, following the MTV Awards, Death Row Records seeking Bad Boy Records' Combs reportedly assaulted an individual named Mark Anthony Bell. Two off-duty police officers were present during the assault of Mr. Bell.”[142] In the end, LAPD cops participated in murders, an armed bank robbery, home invasions, and theft from LAPD evidence lockers that all became known as the Rampart Scandal. All of those crimes trace back through the halls of Death Row Records. Reggie brought Suge Knight’s dream of a law enforcement “Set” to fruition. Reggie Wright Jr. was Suge Knight’s biggest blind spot – his childhood friend – that could kill him and replace him[143] or at least that was the theory. For Reggie to have ultimate success Suge Knight would have to personally install the fox into the henhouse and that would require a severe amount of trust. Tupac’s murder was the beginning of the integration of gangs working together with law enforcement. The tactics behind the murder were executed flawlessly.

There were spotters and radios. They selected a prime location on the edge of traffic. Nobody could match his muscle in the music industry. None of Suge’s enemies could take him down. He was making hundreds of millions of dollars and that gave him power – respect – and most of all prestige. He was known in the best restaurants around the world as well as the best hotels, automobile dealerships, and inside of music. He was now becoming a superstar celebrity without an equal. But all of that money had attracted some unwanted attention. Jerry Heller and Eazy-E got a percentage off of the top as a settlement to a lawsuit. Also, Suge had concluded his business with Dick Griffey and Michael Harris but they were both looking for Suge to share a taste of his cash flow. They plotted but they had no access. Suge had also been rattling Sean Puffy Combs cage but he too was powerless to do anything about Suge’s attacks. Insiders would bring Suge down.

CHAPTER EIGHT

ROLE MODEL IN THE BROWN BOTTLE …HENNESSEY

Jewell said, “The only thing I don’t like about the west coast is that if they were mad at someone then they expected their artists to carry that beef. So, when Cube decided to leave the group, I we came in and was wrapping up some stuff and Dre was like, 'I want you to do this skit.' I’m like, 'What skit?' He told me he wanted me to say, 'Since Ice Cube is sucking so much New York dick, let him come eat some of this Chicago pussy.' [laughs] I said, 'What?', and Dre said, 'Yeah, he’s dick-riding, he’s riding with New York.' [laughs] That’s what I don’t like about the west coast because that blew my chances of working with Ice Cube!”[144] At the Death Row Christmas party in 1995 Mark Anthony Bell is robbed and beaten by Suge Knight, Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, and Norris Anderson. Off-Duty Police Officers monitor the scanners and notify the perpetrators that the police have been dispatched and the crime scene is sanitized. When police arrive they see Bell and ask him if he needs help. Fearing retribution he waives them off. Two days later he files a police report but because it is stale the police make no arrests. From the police report we read photographer, Roderick Nixon’s, , “He walked into the living room and was looking up at the upstairs balcony when he saw Bell spread out on the balcony. There was a lot of movement. He saw Shakur making a stabbing motion at Bell. He saw another male black assaulting Bell. The suspects then moved Bell away from the balcony and out of his sight.”[145] Nixon went down the hill and found police and told them what was happening. Their visit may have saved Bell’s life. Knight, Shakur and Dr. Dre were trying to get Bell to give them the home address of Sean “Puffy” Combs. Everybody on Death Row Records had taken up Suge Knight’s feud with Sean Puffy Combs. Shakur had a beef of his own. For eighteen months Suge pursued Tupac wanting him to sign with Death Row

only to be brushed off. “TEMPTING as Knight's offers were (Death Row was the premier rap label, putting out one multi-platinum record after another), Tupac had consistently declined to leave Interscope. But in the summer of 1995, when it seemed as though his incarceration might continue indefinitely –for years even, if he was not allowed to post bail – he was more desperate than he'd ever been. It was in this bleak moment that Knight – and, apparently, Iovine as well – saw the opportunity to arrange things the way they wanted to. It had become not only attractive but vital to Death Row that Tupac the label. One of the company's biggest stars, Snoop Doggy Dogg, was facing a murder trial, and it was rumored on the street that Dr. Dre was leaving. (Dre would indeed leave by early 1996.) Death Row could not afford to lose both artists. And Knight surely knew that Tupac would be more popular than ever after his prison term, more 'real' to his audience than he had been before.”[146] What brought Tupac to Death Row? Sitting in Dannemora prison was giving Tupac time to think about his life. He mostly reflected on his current predicament. “Agnant's lawyer, Paul Brenner, believes that Tupac should never have been convicted. ‘It was a very weak case,’ he says. ‘A lot went on’ at Nell's. Brenner suspects that the police planted the gun they found in the hotel room. ‘I worked for the P.B.A. for ten years, I know the police... The police are friends of mine,’ he says. ‘But Tupac had no friends in the police. I couldn't find a policeman who had a good word to say about Tupac.’"[147] Tupac had attracted the attention of the police and politicians. The problem with attracting that kind of attention was that it impacted the record label. On March 14, 1995, Tupac releases “Me Against The World,” while he was in prison. The album made its debut at number one on the Billboard 200. It is considered one of the most influential hip-hop albums of all-time. Interscope achieved double platinum status but the label gave it a cold reception. It brought out the politicians to put pressure on law enforcement to bring Tupac down. The twicedaily cavity searches by the Dannemora guards were humiliating and degrading. They had him in their control now. Tupac was infamous among law enforcement and now they held all of the cards. They would make him wish he wasn’t there. They would push every prison rule to the nth degree in applying them to Tupac Shakur. Tupac was unsure about the real reason he was in prison. He knew that Haitian Jack set him up. Back then "Tupac ignored the warnings. 'Jacques had all this gold and diamond jewelry,' Man Man says. 'He had money. He had a nice

B.M.W. He could get you in any club. Pac was just starting to be known then, and he couldn't get in all the clubs. Jacques spent about four or five thousand dollars on Tupac in the beginning – he just overwhelmed him.' According to someone else who knew Agnant, Madonna (with whom Tupac would become close) was one of Agnant's celebrity friends.[148] But there had to be more. There had to be others in on it. He thought about all of those that were at the Quad Studios that day. He received anonymous letters telling him that Puffy and Biggie were behind trying to kill him that day. He bought into the lies. Every humiliating act by the guards was just another act of being violated to take out on those that set him up. He retraced his steps. Tupac had “a lot of pending cases which really took a lot of money, I mean he probably had cases in almost every State.”[149] Strapped for cash, Tupac put feelers out for work. Little Shawn was an artist managed by Haitian Jack. He told Tupac if he came down to the Quad Studios he would pay him to lay down some tracks. As Tupac’s entourage got into the elevator men with guns appeared and told them to get down on their knees. Tupac was uncooperative. He grabbed the gun and was shot in the stomach. As Tupac reached for one of his guns that he carried in his front pockets of his pants the gun went off and Tupac shot himself. That bullet ricocheted around the elevator with fragments that also hit Tupac. Tupac’s jewelry was stolen and he made his way up to the studios where he hid the gun inside the piano. “Biggie didn’t even know Pac was going to be there. These guys pull guns on them and get them in the elevator. Pac grabbed for the gun and that’s how he got shot.”[150] “The guns were called the twins which he carried loaded and cocked most of the time.”[151] “He always carried a gun in his pants and it was cocked half of the time… there were people that were close to him that knew that the groin area gunshot came from his own gun and none of us said anything and it took on a life of its own.”[152] Biggie had nothing to do with Pac getting shot and when Biggie came to visit Pac in the hospital he told him about stashing the gun at the studio. Biggie offered to go get the gun. So Biggie and Man Man go to the studio and Biggie distracts everybody there while Man Man opens the piano and retrieves the gun. “Haitian Jack had something to do with Tupac being shot. Pac came to the studio to lay down a track for an artist that Jack manages. So it came from Jack. Biggie had nothin’ to do with it.”[153]

Haitian Jack was a nefarious criminal connected to all of the wrong people in New York. He took Tupac under his wing. He was in the hotel room when the sexual assault Tupac was accused of occurred. Tupac, Haitian Jack and Charles “Man Man” Fuller were all charged with the crime but Haitian Jack somehow managed to get charges against him dropped. That fact alone screams: “set-up.” The Quad Studios shooting was probably also a set-up. Keep in mind that Tupac had attracted the attention of Vice-President Dan Quayle as he denounced gangster rap in a speech seeking censorship of the music industry. Tupac had shot Atlanta off duty cops and those charges were dropped. “Mutulu is convinced that Tupac became a lightning rod after he shot the policemen in Atlanta. "These disenfranchised – the young blacks who are poor and hopeless – have no leader," Mutulu said. "Their heroes are cultural and sports heroes. No one – not Jesse Jackson, not Ben Chavis, not Louis Farrakhan – has as much influence with this segment as rappers."[154] Police all over America had their sights set on putting Tupac behind bars and he had even attracted unwanted attention of the FBI. But if prison was the downside album sales was the upside. Suge had been courting Tupac. Suge’s big fear was that Tupac would sign with Sean Combs. That would have been a devastating blow to Suge. Suge Knight was beginning to understand the difference between marketing and publicity. You could spend millions of dollars marketing and not move a single record. You could spend nothing and get publicity with an incident and get a Platinum Album. Tupac was a prime example. Every time he was in the news his album sales grew. When he shot the two off-duty police in Atlanta and got a way with it, he became a legend. When he was indicted for rape in what appeared to be a total set-up by law enforcement his popularity grew. But when he was shot four times in New York he became a superstar. There is no evidence that Death Row Records was behind the anonymous letters but it fits the pattern of anonymous tips coming in to law enforcement to sway the investigations in the El Rey Theater murder of Kelly Jamerson, the Tupac Shakur murder and the murder of Biggie Smalls. Whether the letters came from Death Row or another source they successfully swayed Tupac by sowing the seeds of distrust. When Suge stood on stage and called Puffy out, many saw this as Suge reaching out to Tupac. He would never sign with Bad Boy Records now that he believed that word on the streets was that Biggie was behind the Quad Studios shooting. g Tupac was just a shot across the bow. Puffy would have loved to have Tupac on Bad Boy. Suge learned from David Kenner’s tactics

to divide and conquer to keep Tupac away from Puffy’s camp. Now Tupac had taken up Suge’s hatred of the East Coast. For Suge it was personal. “ONCE Tupac came out of prison and ed Death Row, he probably did more to stoke the flames of a much publicized feud between East and West Coast rappers than anyone.”[155] Suge got Dre, Tupac and Suge’s homies to participate in the beating of Mark Anthony Bell at the Death Row Christmas party in 1995 to attempt to get Puffy’s home address. Since they didn’t get the address at least Puffy would hear about it and hold it against Tupac closing that door to him in the future. But that still didn’t make Suge and Puffy even. “On or after October 11, 1995, Tupac was released from prison on bail pending his appeal. During the short period of less than one year between Tupac's release from prison and his death, Tupac recorded three full CD's and approximately 152 other tracks. Many of those tracks had not been released at the time of his death in September 1996.”[156] “Subsequent to October 11, 1995, Interscope and Death Row produced and released a double album recorded by Tupac entitled "All Eyez on Me" ("Eyez"), which, having sold more than five-million copies went "quintuple platinum." According to Death Row, Eyez was the first double CD album in rap music history and was only made possible by Tupac's incredible energy and productivity. Based on the 1995 Dannemora Agreement, and the sales of Eyez, Tupac was entitled to receive gross royalties of $12,000,000. “Additionally, by reason of the sales of Eyez, Tupac was entitled to receive a $5,000,000 advance on his next album. “Thus, during the period of time from his release from prison until his death, Death Row owed Tupac $17,000,000. Yet, when he died, Tupac was virtually penniless. He owned almost nothing. He owned no real estate; he owned no stocks or bonds; he owned two cars – one of which was compensation for his appearance in a commercial.

“During the period of his career with Death Row, Tupac never received an actual ing from Death Row of the monies due to him. Instead, Tupac was repeatedly told by Knight, Kenner and other Death Row employees that he actually owed money to Death Row.”[157] Tupac would soon understand that none of the artists on Death Row Records were getting their money. Jewell told him, “’make sure you tell Suge I want my money and writing credit on this song. I can’t work for free anymore!’ ‘Aw, girl, yo’ brother gon’ make sure you get all of your credit. You don’t have to worry about that!’ 2Pac snapped back before I could finish my statement with a cloud of smoke coming out of his mouth. ‘I’m not trying to be difficult, but I need to get paid. It’s tight out here for me. This nigga don’t want to pay me shit and I’m tired of hearing my work on the radio but not making any money!’ 2Pac looked at me like I was crazy. Snoop and Kurupt kept smoking acting like they didn’t hear what I said. I decided to just leave it alone and discuss it with Suge when I saw him. I tried not to involve anyone else in my mess. It was apparent to me that these niggas didn’t want to talk about Suge, so I just shut my mouth.”[158] “Pac was getting ripped off. Daz was getting ripped off.”[159] “I was getting paid at first about $10,000 a month, then it went down to basically 4,000 to 5,000 a month, but what was happening, Reggie was quote, unquote, sending Tupac – Tupac was getting bills for 30,000 – 40,000 a month in security. And basically, you know, are you paying me that kind of money? He says, what kind of money am I making? I ain’t making that kind of money. That is what they were billing. Of course, that was Suge’s whole – that was my way for Suge to go ahead and extort money back.[160] “2Pac had declared his unhappiness with his career path and was planning to make major changes. 2Pac had personally mentioned to me that he only had one album left to turn in to Death Row, and that album was recorded already. He told me he was planning to move on and launch his own label with his crew The Outlawz. Of course, that never happened. When he got shot it seemed like everything was shut down at Death Row. They were sitting on top of the world in one instance and in the blink of an eye it was all gone just like that… and so was Pac.”[161] Just a few days earlier, on August 27th, Tupac had severed a critical tie to Death Row. "He had been on the set all day, and in the studio all night," Fula recalls.

"He sent us to the studio to get cassettes of what he'd done the night before--he wanted to listen to it. They said no, that Kenner wouldn't allow it. Pac went crazy! He fired Kenner... I typed the letter... and he gave me permission to hire another lawyer."[162] Tupac made it clear in New York, four days before his murder, that he was leaving Death Row Records. In New York an argument took place between Tupac and Suge, “I’m going to cut out Makavalli and when I cut out Makavelli I’m the hell up outta here. You got your money I don’t want nothing else to do with Death Row, I’m out.”[163] Tupac said, “Fuck it, I’m outta here.”[164] “I think Tupac wanted to leave and Death Row didn’t want him to go.”[165] “We knew that Pac wasn’t coming. Pac didn’t want to go to Vegas.”[166] Tupac specifically said, “I’m a dead man walking.”[167]

CHAPTER NINE

JUICE & TANGERAY MADE HIS GET-AWAY

Snoop Dogg was one of Suge Knight’s discoveries. Death Row Records was the house that Snoop built. Legal troubles had worked so well in getting Snoop to sign a management contract. He literally signs one day after being arrested for murder.[168] “Suge Knight used to slap Snoop Dogg around like he was a little girl.”[169] “Suge wasn’t happy at all when he learned about our situation. He tried to punk Snoop every chance he could. I hated that Snoop was scared to stand up to Suge.”[170] But Suge held Snoop’s freedom in his hands. Snoop was being represented by David Kenner in his murder trial and he was reluctant to rock the boat while he was facing the realistic possibility of life in prison. All Snoop could do was bite his tongue and wait for his opportunity. “Snoop, Daz, Kurupt and Dre all feared his wrath. Suge had turned into a tyrant and he had them shook. Dre’ began acting distant, moody and standoffish each time I saw him. When I asked him what was wrong, he always brushed it off and didn’t say much. I could tell he was not happy with the way things were being done. Nobody was happy anymore, but nobody was doing anything about it either.”[171] Or were they? A week after Tupac got out of prison Snoop and Pac were supposed to perform at the Rosanne Barr show. Snoop never showed up. Pac was irate and he was talking about Snoop. “He didn’t come to the rehearsal.” Pac and Ice-T host the show and performed without Snoop.[172] The rivalry between Tupac and Snoop was growing. “Pac was like Suge’s little brother.”[173] Snoop had been on Death Row Records far longer than Tupac but Tupac didn’t respect it. Suge would remind Tupac that “this is the house Snoop built” be respectful.[174] But Suge would pile on the disrespect to Snoop. One

time Tupac and Suge made Snoop ride on top of the luggage in the SUV. Add to that humiliation the fact that interviewers were always more interested in Tupac. “On March 7, 1996, a fight occurred between Death Row Records personnel and Bad Boy Records personnel. Police officers responding to Death Row records noted that "[recording artist] Snoop-Doggie-Dog was present at the location with additional gang ." Moreover, at least one off-duty LAPD officer, directly employed by "Snoop-Doggie Dog" as a bodyguard, was at the site.”[175] On March 14th, Snoop Dogg and his bodyguard, McKinley Lee are found not guilty of murder charges stemming from his arrest in 1993. Dr. Dre enters into an agreement with Death Row Records relinquishing his 50% ownership in the label effectively leaving Death Row Records. “Snoop had looked at Dre as a mentor, so when he wasn’t there it was hard for him to be completely happy. Snoop knew that if it weren’t for Dre giving him the opportunity, he wouldn’t have been the star he is now.”[176] July 1, 1996 - From Police Logs - "Recvd telephone call from Det. Caffey #23900, Career Criminal Apprehension Unit. He advised me that Death Row records is owned by Suge. Knight, a Compton Blood/Mob Piru Gang member. Dr. Dre used to be a fifty percent controlling partner of Death Row Records with Suge. Knight had a falling out with Snoop-Doggie-Dog. Dr. Dre has signed with another music company by the name of lnterscope/MCA. Snoop Doggie Dog is an 'Insane Crips' gang member from Long Beach, not a 'Rolling 20's' as previously documented. Det. Caffey further advised that Agent Alexander from ATF is currently conducting a Federal investigation for fire arms violations along with the IRS for an income tax evasion case on Death Row Records. He also stated that Tupac Shakur is a Compton Blood gang member, and that Warren G also frequents Death Row Records. Warren G is a gang member from Compton and his father is a Black Panther member from Oakland."[177] When Tupac and Snoop were performing at the House of Blues the crowd was mildly enthusiastic for Snoop but when Tupac appeared the crowd went wild. That event alone put a chasm between the rappers. And when a rift occurs between two leaders the minions magnify it. Their respective entourages were soon openly at war.

“Death Row had begun recouping against Snoop’s five million dollar legal bill… That the victory had been financed entirely on Suge’s dime worked to legally justify the label’s position in ceasing to pay Snoop while it collected against the debt did not calm the label’s only remaining marquee superstar. As a result, the sentiment between the two parties grew all the more sour as months ed.”[178] “Radio came on with Snoop Dogg saying ‘I don’t have no beef with New York’ which sent Pac into a rage.”[179] “After Tupac perceived that Snoop had betrayed him by siding with Puffy and the Notorious B.I.G., with whom Tupac was beefing, Snoop's interactions with Pac completely changed. ‘When I got back to the hotel, it was a whole 'nother atmosphere, like he sent his homeboy to get the bud from me as opposed to him coming to get it from me. ...So I felt funny... When I got on the plane to go to LA the next day, Suge didn't let none of my security ride with me. I had to ride on the plane with him, his homies, and Pac. And it was the most uncomfortable ride I had in my life, because my nigga didn't say nothin' to me the whole ride. That's a five-hour flight on a private plane.’ “At one point, Snoop actually feared for his life on the flight. ‘I walk up to him, maybe three hours into the flight, sit next to him like, 'Yo goin' to Vegas, cuz?' He turns [away from me], starts talkin' to somebody else. I'm like, alright, go in the back,[180] put the blanket on my head, knife in my hand, fork in my hand, and just sleep the rest of the ride, because I feel like they finna try to do something.’"[181] We land and I got my Rolls Royce pickin me up and he got his pickin him up and I say, “Yo Pac you goin to Vegas?” and he just give me this real stank ass look and don’t say nothing, that’s it.[182] Daz says, “There was turmoil inside the family that you wouldn’t know. Shit goes haywire. They was trying to get us to go to Vegas (at the time Tupac was killed). Dogg Pound, we was really on our fuck Death Row Shit. We was already sayin’ fuck Death Row.”[183] Three days later Tupac was shot in Las Vegas. He died from wounds he sustained that night. If Snoop’s cousin was the shooter in Las Vegas it is inconceivable that Snoop didn’t know about it either before or after the fact. Daz says he wanted to go to Vegas, “I could’ve jumped out on his (Suge’s) ass in Vegas but you know it was killin’ me but Snoop said, ‘hold on don’t fuck this up.’ I respected that; I get him another day.”[184] that interview with

AllHipHop.com where Snoop says that Lil ½ Dead will not let anybody talk bad about Snoop? This basically paints Lil ½ Dead as Snoop’s enforcer.[185] This might explain why Snoop began the narrative that Suge Knight was behind the murder of Tupac. Is it to throw investigators off the trail? One incident happened at the Universal Amphitheater on May 14th, 1998.[186] Snoop said that his security detail ditched him and Sheriffs say that he was approached by gang d with Death Row Records (Bloods) that meant to do him harm. They saved him from that harm and he told them that Suge was responsible for Tupac's murder. According to Kevin Hackie Snoop was spreading the rumor that “Suge ordered Tupac’s hit… Snoop basically said he is for sure dogged, meaning Suge had him killed to basically throw the attention off him.”[187] Many investigators have cited Suge Knight for being uncooperative but in the interview for the Biggie & Tupac Documentary Suge is candid about Snoop without mentioning him by name. The Death Row Records website broadcasts a message to Snoop, "2001 The Year of Fear, All Doggs Run & Hide, Suge is coming home."[188] Snoop said, "We start a coalition. And we get rid of Suge Knight No. 1 (snaps his fingers) for good, because that’s a bump in the road and when you got a negative bump in the road it makes it hard."[189] “In 1998, Snoop told police that he felt he was in "grave danger as a result of leaving Death Row Records."[190] “The other thing Snoop likes about being with No Limit is being able to ‘see’ his money. Nothing is hidden from him, Snoop claims, as was the case when Sharitha Knight (Suge’s wife) was his manager, and when David Kenner (Death Row and Knight’s lawyer) negotiated for both sides. According to Snoop, he couldn’t get any royalties until the legal fees from his murder trial (he was acquitted of first-and second-degree murder in Los Angeles, February 21, 1996) were paid for.”[191] Daz releases “Tha Row Killa” with an appearance by Snoop and the Dogg Pound, depicting Suge Knight being kidnapped and humiliated. Tha Row was the new name for Death Row Records after Suge got out of prison. Snoop, Dre, Daz and others all the days when they felt they were not being properly paid by Suge Knight. They take joy in toying with him today by telling him that they owe him money that they never give him. The way they

lured him down to the set of Straight Outta Compton was by telling him they were going to square him away with money. When he showed up there were thugs waiting to give him a beating or potentially kill him. Supposedly there is video of the thugs with guns. That video has, so far, been excluded from the trial. Clearly there are those that fear Suge Knight and want him dead or he wouldn’t have been shot on August 24, 2014… six days after the leak of the confession letter by LAPD. In 1998, Snoop officially left Death Row and it was a very messy split. In an interview with the Long Beach Press-Telegram at the time, Snoop said, “I definitely feel my life is in danger if I stay in Death Row Records. That’s part of the reason why I’m leaving.”[192] Snoop also told the Press-Telegram that he was planning to leave the label, “Because there’s nothing over there. Suge Knight is in jail, the president; Dr. Dre left and Tupac (Shakur) is dead. It’s telling me that I’m either going to be dead or in jail or I’m going to be nothing.”[193]

CHAPTER TEN

ON THE PAPER IN AN ESTRANGED MARRIAGE RESORT TO VIOLENCE AND DISPARAGE

Sharitha Knight was dating Officer Kevin Gaines at the time of Tupac's murder. Snoop was on trial for murder that same year. Snoop was acquitted when evidence disappeared from an evidence locker at LAPD that Gaines had access to and he was a suspect in the theft of that evidence. Gaines was also in Las Vegas on "Special Assignment" with other officers on the night Tupac and Suge were shot.[194] Gaines was gunned down by officer Frank Lygga who later said the murder was a sanctioned hit ordered by LAPD brass specifically Police Chief Bernard Parks. Lygga recanted this statement. On the recorded tape at the Police Academy, "He says that Douglas asked if it was an accident to which Lyga replied "no it wasn't an accident." Suge set up Knightlife Entertainment for Sharitha to represent the artists. It is a “conflict of interest”[195] for the owners of Death Row Records to manage artists and have them signed to Death Row Records. “She (Sharitha) never came around. Those were meetings that were held in the valley.”[196] “Sharitha never came around unless there was a problem with the money.”[197] “She (Sharitha) was managing Snoop in the very beginning but Snoop wasn’t happy with that.”[198] “Meanwhile, while Suge Knight waits in jail, Sharitha Knight has helped guide Snoop Doggy Dogg's pending reemergence as his personal manager. "It's a relationship we've had for four years now," she explains. "It's worked well." She is expecting Snoop's return to generate enthusiasm similar to that which greeted his first album in 1993. Doggystyle entered the charts at No. 1, and went on to sell four million copies--generating a buzz of acclaim and disdain that hit magazine covers from Rolling Stone to Time.

"We're very confident, and we've got lots of plans," Sharitha says. "Snoop starts a European tour in London on December 2. There will be United States concerts, too, but we're waiting a little bit before making them definite. After the album takes off, we'll be able to get better prices from promoters." Snoop never toured in of his first album, primarily because he was a murder suspect before it hit the charts. "People talk so much about how that case helped Snoop, how he took advantage of it, but that wasn't the situation," Sharitha Knight says. "It kept him from touring, prevented him from recording, and hurt his reputation. It's going to be a lot better for all of us this time.[199] “A Hampton, Virginia cioncert promoter has filed a $500,000 lawsuit, plus punitive damages, against Snoop Doggy Dogg, Sharitha Knight (Suge’s estranged wife), and Death Row Records for allegedly duping her into trafficking drugs. Patricia Ann Richardson was arrested with seven pounds of marijuana on January 28, 1997. She claims that Mrs. Knight instructed her to deliver the packages to Snoop at a club and that she was not aware of their contents. “Impossible,” Snoop countered, “I don’t smoke pot.”[200] “On Nov. 3, 1989, Knight and Sharitha Lee Golden were married in Las Vegas.”[201] Sharitha had been with Suge in Las Vegas during his college days. She was his rock. She was his real business partner. Dr. Dre, at one point, may have owned half of the shares in Death Row Records but Sharitha “knew a lot of the inner workings of Death Row.”[202] The history of the relationship between Suge and Sharitha was anything but stable. He cut off her hair in a domestic dispute in Las Vegas. According to Simone Green, Suge Knight was terrified of Sharitha finding out about his affairs with various women. When she would find out about an affair he would break the affair off. Suge Knight played around, Sharitha knew and became furious. One day he started an affair with Michel’le Tousant, forbidden fruit, the woman who belonged to Suge Knight’s business partner Dr. Dre. Was the betrayal of Sharitha or Dr. Dre the bigger sin? No matter which, the motto from Suge Knight’s neighborhood, “Money Over Bitches,” was meaningless to Suge when it came to Michel’le. His desire would blind him, then it would blindside him. Sharitha moved on to a man in uniform – a blue uniform. An LAPD Officer provided for her needs – someone who could protect her from all of the craziness

but a man that brought some craziness of his own. If Suge didn’t want to be with her he should have let her go. But jealousy would consume him… eat at him… whenever Suge saw them carrying on. It wasn’t the only reason for Suge Knight’s undoing but it was a very significant factor. They had both moved on but failed to dissolve the marriage… a relatively minor blind spot. Suge had showed up unannounced and climbed into their vehicle voicing veiled threats. Sharitha put an end to that and Suge was dropped off on a street to get his own ride. Months later Suge took Sharitha and Kevin Gaines to a hole in the desert at gunpoint and ordered them to strip naked. They thought they were going to be killed. He then left them there naked to find their own way back home. “Alexander heard a story in reference to a LAPD officer that was dating Suge’s estranged wife. The story goes that Suge kidnapped both of them took them to the desert had them remove their clothes and left them.”[203] “She was a straight up hood bitch. Put on fancy clothes. You can take the bitch out of the hood but you can’t take the hood out of the bitch.”[204] “Sharitha Knight decided to file suit against Snoop for alleged breach of contract, seeking unspecified compensatory damages: As president of Knightlife Management, she was his manager from 1993 to 1996, she explained, and Snoop never fired her. But he refused to pay her twenty percent of the estimated $20 million he earned during the term of their contract - $1.6 million. She wanted a judge to place his salary into a trust because Snoop had a price on his head. ‘in other words,’ L.A. Weekly reported, ‘Sharitha Knight wants her money before Snoop gets shot – or spends all his money to avoid getting shot.’”[205] Even though Suge and Sharitha had become estranged she did stand to inherit his shares if he was killed: “She was on the paper.”[206] “He told me that Sharitha Knight and Reggie Wright were behind the murder.”[207] “Sharitha very seldom came around. She only came around when the checks didn’t fuckin’ work.”[208] “There was always fights about money. She (Sharitha) was concerned about her future. I got the impression that a lot of her stuff was taken care of and sorted out. I him buying a house, they bought the fuckin’ house and paid cash for the house so that she was taken care of purely from the perspective so that she wouldn’t run her mouth because knew a lot of the inner workings of Death Row.”[209]

Sharitha would have been an important element in any attempt to murder Suge Knight because even though Suge and Sharitha had become estranged she did stand to inherit his shares in Death Row Records if he was killed: “She was on the paper.”[210] Getting her involved would tie her to the team whether they succeeded or failed and she could never push her co-conspirators out. Kenner and Reggie think of everything. "He's says he's going to start over," says Sharitha Knight, one of his ex-wives. "That's what I think he should have done a long time ago. Death Row was known one way and he needs to start a new way. You've got to leave negativity where it's at." Does she see him changing? "I think he's trying to change," she says, speaking by telephone from her home in Las Vegas. Knight spends more time with their 14-year-old daughter. But the child money? "It was supposed to be set aside by the bankruptcy court, and I have not received that yet. Why I don't know."[211] "They've got him in jail, but they haven't locked shut his mouth yet," says Knight's wife, Sharitha.[212] “Sharitha basically was Suge’s wife, I guess, in name, marriage license only. They had a 6, 7-year-old girl, Arian. Sharitha basically grew up out in the Compton area, whatever. She – he started Knightlife Entertainment, basically put her in charge of that to give her something. “I can say right now she is not doing anything. I had someone who just recently went to a birthday party for the kid at her house. Of course, all the remnants of Suge, she has a big house in Studio City. Everything is taken down. Suge doesn’t even exist anymore. From my understanding, she is going to get paid the rest of her life. She will be taken care of.”[213]

CHAPTER ELEVEN

STEALIN’ DRUGS DEALIN’ THUGS

Reggie Lilburn Wright Jr. was born on August 5, 1966. He worked at the Big D Ranch Market during his time attending Lynwood High School. He received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Black Studies from Cal State Long Beach in 1989. In 1985 he became a jailer for the City of Compton and later became a Community Service Officer. In 1989 he became a police recruit becoming a Compton Police Officer in 1990. In December of 1993 he was in a car accident injuring his ankle while off duty. In 1995 he was hand picked by Police Chief Hourie Taylor to work the Street Crime Suppression Unit. Wright was in another accident in April of ’95 where he reinjured his ankle. The department, for failing to look both ways in the accident, reprimanded him. In May of 1995 he formed Wrightway Protective Services. On January 8, 1996 he left the Compton Police Department on Medical retirement with a pension paid for by the City of Compton. In October of 1994 he began moonlighting for Death Row Records. While working for Death Row Records he officially employed the following police officers through Wrightway: James Green, Fred Reynolds, Lindell Johnson, Rodrick Pettis, Gil Cross, Kevin Hackie, Danny Sneed, among others. Reggie went everywhere with Suge. He never let Suge out of his sight – a fact that bodyguards commented on when he invented a reason on the night of Tupac and Suge’s shooting to go to Club 662 instead of traveling with Suge.[214] Texas Governor, Ann Richards said, “your enemies can’t hurt you, but your friends can kill you.” “He told me that Sharitha Knight and Reggie Wright were behind the murder.”[215] “Mr. Writh Jr. gave Info where 2 pac was going to be.”[216] “He says it was Wright who – on the night of Tupac's murder – told the killers where

Tupac would be, along with Suge.”[217] Michael Moore tells of hearing “Got ‘em” come over Reggie Wright’s radio while he was standing next to him at Club 662.[218] Reggie Wright was responsible for disarming all of the security on the night Tupac was shot.[219] “It was all Reggie’s fault. It wasn’t even something where you could debate it. Every decision came from Reggie’s mouth.”[220] Reggie Wright Jr. is seen in the MGM surveillance video walking with a woman, possibly Sharitha Knight and then shaking hands with Orlando Anderson and leading him away.[221] “Mr. Hackie will detail the role of Reggie Wright Jr., Wrightway Security, and off-duty law enforcement personnel as it relates to the operations of Death Row Records, the murder of Tupac Shakur, and the murder of Christopher Wallace. He is willing to meet with Reggie Wright Jr. and to discuss with him the above referenced matters. He is willing to wear a wire while doing do. It is Mr. Hackie’s strong belief that Reggie Wright Jr. has sufficient information to procure indictments against Death Row Records personnel, and that he could be instrumental in obtaining information. “Mr. Hackie is willing to testify under oath, with polygraph verification, that a representative of Death Row Records offered a police officer $25,000.00 to murder Christopher Wallace. Mr. Hackie will identify how he came to be in possession of this information and the persons involved. “Mr Hackie is willing to testify under oath, with polygraph verification, on information in his possession regarding a compact .40 cal Glock that was used to kill Tupac Shakur and law enforcement knowledge of that firearm.”[222] Reggie Wright Jr. allegedly attended the gang summit and paid the $100,000 bounty to Danny Patton. Reggie was responsible for disarming all of Tupac's bodyguards that night. He also attended every single meeting between witnesses and the Las Vegas Police. Reggie Wright Jr. worked previously for the Compton Jail and then the Compton Police. His father, Reggie Wright Sr. was in charge of the gang unit inside of Compton Police and was absorbed by the Sheriff's Department when it was learned that corruption existed within Compton PD. LAPD's Detective Fred Miller stated that Reggie Wright Jr. was known to control the drug trade in Compton. Reggie was also known to rob drug dealers of their drugs and money instead of busting them. He left the Compton Police on a worker's comp claim. Kevin Hackie claims he handed the weapon used in the Tupac killing to Reggie Wright two weeks before the killing. Hackie claims that

the weapon had been ballistics tested a month before the killing and that ballistics test matched the ballistics of the Tupac Shakur murder. Reggie was at Club 662 at the time of the shooting. Michael Moore, a Tupac bodyguard, was next to Reggie Wright when the shooting happened and heard "Got 'em" coming over Reggie Wright's radio. He then heard someone he describes as "white" say, "don't say nothin' over the radio." "Got 'em" probably referred to Suge Knight and Tupac Shakur at the time of the shooting because with 13 bullets launched they really thought they "Got 'em." We have a tape of one of the security guards that worked for Reggie Wright Jr. stating that he had turned to the dark side and had the red carpet installed in his office indicating that he had accepted hip into the Bloods gang. The confession letter places Reggie Wright at the gang summit asking directly for permission to kill both Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight. The confession letter was given to LAPD and instead of being investigated it was leaked by a cop with direct ties back to Reggie Wright Jr. “In an article published in Vibe Magazine, Wrightway Security head Reggie Wright, a former Compton cop and a longtime friend of Knight who often provided security for Knight, pointed the finger at the Compton Crips, claiming Comb’s gang connections got Wallace killed. Knight reportedly told police as well as a few reporters, that Crips were responsible for both deaths, most notably Shakur’s, something many found suspicious, given that gang never ratted each other out, even if they were of opposite gangs.”[223] “Reggie and Suge are close, grew up together, they are like brothers. They are tighter than you think. Everything Suge does Reggie knows. One thing Suge does, is trust Reggie. I’m’a tell you, Reggie fucked that whole shooting deal up. All that shit was Reggie’s fault. Reggie is the one that wasn’t with Suge. I was at the hospital when Suge called Reggie in there. One thing Suge didn’t do is he didn’t blame any of it for Reggie and trust me it was all Reggie’s fault. It wasn’t even something where you could debate it. Every decision came from Reggie’s mouth.”[224] Suge’s biggest blind spot came from the man he called his Blood brother – the man he entrusted his personal security to – the man he entrusted all of the security of his bread winners – the thief. “Reggie always had the reputation of shaking up the drug dealers, stealing their money, and taking off.[225] “Reggie was a jailer for the city. Reggie got caught stealing prisoners money.”[226] Reggie’s law enforcement career had just ended: “He (Reggie Wright Jr.) bought a Corvette, a blue one in ’94, off Warren and 22nd he put it into a post one night

off-duty and basically that is how his leg got messed up. That is where the medical retirement started.”[227] “I’m surprised Reggie’s not in prison. I know he used to hold money, I know he used to handle shit.”[228] An unmemorable high school life followed by an even more forgettable college and then petty theft of criminals in jail followed by a failure as a cop that led to a disability claim that was sketchy at best. Suge Knight plucked Reggie Wright Jr. from his life of obscurity and put him into a position of power and prestige but Reggie didn’t see it that way. He was only “the help” – a lackey rubbing elbows with celebrities but not one of them. That only heightened something that had been festering for years. Reggie’s envy of Suge started as a child. Imagine what it was like growing up in Compton as the son of a cop in the world where gangs were so prevalent. Reggie Sr. must have cut some deal with the OG’s that his son was off limits. That doesn’t mean they associated with him. Suge earned his “free ” through his athleticism. He was a football star that cast a big shadow and Reggie was squarely in that shadow even back then. Now Suge cast a great big shadow and nobody even knew Reggie’s name. All that he was doing for Death Row and there was never any recognition. Deep-rooted jealousy stemming from high school had grown to a fever pitch and Suge was tone deaf to that note. He couldn’t see that Reggie was behind the Tupac murder and attempted murder of Suge. He couldn’t see that Reggie orchestrated the probation violation and entry of evidence through Compton Police that would send Suge away. As the head of Death Row Records Security, Reggie Wright Jr. wasn’t simply effective he was lethal. His degree in Justice istration, relationships with criminals from his years as a jailer, relationships to the gangs through his father heading up the gang unit in Compton, and relationships with law enforcement as paymaster and scheduler of an enormous budget in handing out “off-duty” assignments, gave him the power to plan crimes that embedded compromised investigations into the fabric of any potential inquiries. Add to that the Criminal Defense mind of David Kenner and you get various law enforcement agencies spending tens of millions of dollars investigating Death Row Records crimes with virtually no indictments, arrests, trials, or convictions. The signs of Reggie’s transformation were there for all to see. Death Row Dave said he was “surprised Reggie and his dad were not in prison.”[229] Kevin Hackie confronted Reggie and said, “y’all acting like a couple of

gangsters.”[230] Reggie confided in Michael Moore that he had “ordered the red carpet. I tried to fly right.”[231] According to the Biggie Smalls Civil Trial Reggie Wright is a suspect in the murder of Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls aka The Notorious BIG. "The only people I lie to are the police."[232] Reggie lies to Suge and tells him that Frank is no longer working for Wrightway while Frank is working for a church in Inglewood.[233] Where Suge told Reggie everything, Reggie could not fly straight with Suge. He instructed many to outright lie to Suge. When it came to Reggie, Suge Knight was blind. He was unaware of all that was going on around him. “Yeah Frank, (shaking his head) Frank didn’t help us, Frank didn’t help us,” said Norris Anderson.[234] This was another lie entered into the record through the Compton Police. “The people at DRR want you dead (about Frank Alexander).”[235] “That is the word. They want to finish you off. If Suge don’t get out you are going to be in deep trouble. They are holding you able.” I told reggie about two or three months before the shooting, I said to him I said, Reggie, what is going on? I said, you know, you two are acting like some goddamn gang member, you know. So I said to him, you know, what is going on? You know, Suge just got me doing all of these things. Never would say what Suge had him doing.”[236] If Sharitha was Suge’s Rock, Reggie Wright was Suge Knight’s confidant – his enforcer. Death Row Dave says, “Reggie Wright (Jr.) was the go-between between Suge Knight and all kinds of crazy shit.” At the intersection of music, jealousy, gangs, drugs, guns, parties, and cops there was lots of crazy shit for a man of Reggie’s particular skill set to go-between and with ties to Rampart scandal cops Kevin Gaines, Rafael Perez, and David Mack there were no limitations on what “crazy shit” they would do.

CHAPTER TWELVE

RAGS TO RICHES MONEY OVER BRO’S/BITCHES

“See I made Louis a bet here, Louis bet me that we couldn’t both get rich and put y’all in the poorhouse at the same time… One Dollar.” – From Trading Places.

In the 1983 movie, “Trading Places,” two high society trust fund business magnates bet a dollar that they can replace the head of their company with someone from the streets. They destroy many lives in the process of playing out their one-dollar-bet. Perhaps it was a dollar bet between David Kenner and Reggie Wright Jr. like in the movie. Can you imagine how that conversation went? “I bet I can orchestrate a flawless hit on Tupac and Suge in Las Vegas this weekend and completely turn the music industry upside down. Standard bet? One Dollar?” On a jet skiing trip to Lake Mead with Michael Moore, Reggie Wright Sr. speculated that if something ever happened to Suge, Reggie would run the record label. “He told me on the lake, he goes if anything happens, if anything comes up, Reggie would be the one running the whole day-in and day-out operations, Suge would turn it to him.” I said, ‘Even over Sharitha?’ He said, “Trust me.”[237] “Sharitha is on the paper but Reggie would carry most of the burden.”[238] It only mattered “if” something happened. Perhaps it was that very speculation that led to the unending chain of events that unseated Marion Suge Knight. “One thing Suge does is trust Reggie.”[239] Reggie Wright Sr. had been speculating that “if something happens to Suge” his son would run the half-a-billion-dollar Death Row Records. Odds are pretty

good that if the speculation had made it all the way to a jet ski trip on Lake Mead that this speculation had taken root somewhere in Los Angeles. Perhaps that speculation sparked the conversation between David Kenner and Reggie Wright Jr. that put the plan in motion. In the world of Gangster Rap, speculation of this sort can be extremely dangerous. Gangster Rap began in the streets where life is hard. The plight of the streets connected with American youth and overnight a multi-billion dollar industry sprang up bringing many of these dangerous elements with it. It wasn’t just a business run by the laws of capitalism; it was a hybrid of capitalism and the laws of the streets. So many of the stories have focused on the drama, beatings, and gang influence but not enough attention has been placed on the actual business that was transacted. Gangster Rap was only able to sell hundreds of millions of albums because artists recorded songs, performed at concerts, visited talk shows and occasionally got entangled into controversy. That multi-platinum success spelled temptation to those who grew up in the ghetto – many of which were seeing albums on the charts but were not participating in the profits. The envy of Kenner and Wright Jr. was already embedded. They would attempt to take out Suge Knight, steal Tupac’s music, and collect on a Lloyds of London Key Man Life Insurance Police that was rumored to be valued at $51 million on Tupac.[240] “Looking good David Kenner.” “Feeling good Reggie Wright Jr.,” might have been their code to acknowledge the plan that was in place to unseat Suge Knight – taking his position, power, wealth, and prestige – but they could never duplicate the actual success Suge achieved – because Reggie and Kenner were only common thieves – they could only envy him – they could never become him.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

SUGE TOOK THE BAIT THEY LAID IN WAIT FILLED WITH HATE

Reggie Wright Jr. would take Suge Knight’s money and use all of what Suge built to take betrayal to a whole new level acting in league with Suge’s growing list of enemies. But Suge Knight engaged in some betrayals of his own. His betrayals along with the betrayal of his best friend all converged during a sevenmonth period of time that would decimate West Coast Rap and Hip Hop. Where to start with the trail of betrayals? Wedding vows? Was there such a thing in the music business? Business partners? Recording artists? Friends? Family? Acquaintances? Time Warner betrayed Interscope, Jimmy Iovine betrayed Tupac, Suge Knight betrayed Dr. Dre, David Kenner and Suge betrayed Michael and Lydia Harris, David Kenner betrayed Suge Knight after Suge Knight betrayed David Kenner, Suge Knight betrayed Sharitha and then Sharitha betrayed Suge Knight, Suge Knight betrayed The DOC and Dick Griffey, Suge enlisted The DOC, Dr. Dre, and Michel’le to betray Jerry Heller and Eazy-E, Suge Knight betrayed Simone Green, Trey betrayed Suge, Tupac betrayed Lil ½ Dead, Lydia Harris betrayed Suge Knight, Suge Knight betrayed Lil ½ Dead, Suge Knight betrayed Snoop Dogg and Snoop Dogg betrayed Suge Knight, but the biggest betrayal of all was Reggie Wright Jr.’s betrayal of Suge Knight. Suge Knight never betrayed his homies: Jake, Buntry, Poochie, Neckbone, or either of the Reggie Wrights. So many with that sense of entitlement felt betrayed by Suge and they all felt he could be doing more for them... but Suge Knight was living the life. The money was rolling in. The party that started at Chasen's in Beverly Hills, with Harry-O’s money, only ended on September 7th, 1996. The drama, real or imagined, sold

record albums and Suge Knight had a knack for picking talent and putting together hit records. The industry was tailor made for him. He was in his element but his time at the helm was running out. One day everybody had enough of Suge and they all gathered together in a single act of betrayal to fire shots heard ‘round the gangster rap world. Tupac was not the main target that night… but the gathering storm clouds also wanted him dead. If they couldn’t kill Suge Knight they would still take everything away from him. “Meanwhile, things over at Death Row were on the decline. The future was looking very bleak. I knew Death Row records would soon be a thing of the past. Everything was spiraling out of control.”[241]

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

ROLLIN’ THE DICE ON A VEGAS FIGHT NIGHT YOU WERE WARNED NOT TO SHOW TO STAY OUTTA SIGHT YOU BROUGHT YOUR GIRL INTO HARMS WAY CLASS DON’T MIX WITH THE STREETS THEY SAY

“Tupac was gunned down on the Las Vegas Strip after a Mike Tyson fight. Now how many witnesses you need to see some shit before you arrest somebody. More people saw Tupac get shot than the last episode of Seinfeld… the government hates rap. If Billy Joel, Elton John and David Bowie got shot they would have Bruce Springsteen’s house surrounded. You mean to tell me they can find Saddam Hussein in a hole but you can’t tell me who shot Tupac? Shit! They found Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Tupac got shot in Vegas.” – Chris Rock

“Tupac’s murder is more related to Death Row than any other theory they came up with.”[242] – Michael Moore Tupac Aftermath “I instantly thought the night Pac was shot that there has to be some involvement because of the way it went down.”[243] “We were told 2-3 hours earlier on the night Tupac got shot not to carry our guns. We never figured out why.”[244] “All of security is waiting at Club 662 for Tupac and Suge. They said Suge got shot and that Tupac had gotten shot.”[245] Confession Letter to the murder of Tupac Shakur and attempt to murder Suge Knight is written in 1998 as dictated by Malcolm Patton (one of the shooters) and given to Fox 11 journalist Chris Blatchford. (See below). Chris Blatchford

also talks to Malcolm Patton about the murder and provides a written statement on his conversations. That letter and Blatchford Statement details that the conspiracy to commit murder began in Balboa Park clearly giving Los Angeles jurisdiction over this case. “Suge Knight & Tupac Shakur had left Suge Knight’s Vegas residence at 6980 Monta Rosa and were enroute with a caravan of approx. 5-6 luxury vehicles to Suge Knight's night club (662 CLUB). As they stopped in front of the Maxim Casino, a white Cadillac pulled up next to Suge Knight's veh (Blk BMW750) on the enger side, the occupants (Male Blacks) rolled down the windows of the wht. Cad and opened fire into the rear seat area of Suge Knight's veh where Tupac Shakur was seated, hitting him four times, twice in the chest. Suge sustained a minor gun shot graze. Tupac had surgery on 9/9/96 and his rt. lung was removed as result of the shooting. He is listed as critical. Speculation from tabloid publications, news media and sources close to Death Row Records is that there is an East coast rivalry and recording power struggle between "Bad Boy Entertainment" from New York headed by Sean "Puffy" Combs, d with L.A. Crips connection Mike Conception; against Suge Knight, Tupac Shakur and Death Row Records.”[246] September 7, 1:25 PM – Michael Moore is relieved of responsibility to guard Tupac Shakur. September 7, 2:30 PM – Tupac arrives in Las Vegas. September 7, 3:45 PM – "Death Row Dave" tells about meeting with George Kelesis and Reggie Wright Jr. at Luxor telling him and other security not to carry a weapon. September 7, 4:50 PM – Alexander leaves Tupac to call Reggie Wright and make arrangements to meet Suge. Michael Moore finds Tupac alone and begins guarding him. September 7, 5:20 PM – Frank Alexander and Tupac reconnect. September 7, 5:30 PM – People start lining up at Club 662. September 7, 6:00 PM – At the Luxor Hotel Frank and Tupac go up to the rooms to change clothes to get ready for the Tyson Fight.

September 7, 6:30 PM – Reggie Wright picks this as the timestamp on the fake chain grab story that he asks Frank Alexander to tell Las Vegas Police. The story was that Orlando Anderson had grabbed for Tupac's medallion breaking the chain. that there was the "eye-in-the-sky" recording everything in the hotels so that story is easily verifiable as false. Bodyguard Frank Alexander was told to lie about the Orlando Anderson incident by Reggie Wright. He told investigators that Orlando had grabbed Tupac’s chain earlier in the evening breaking the chain. That incident morphed into the Orlando Anderson Chain Grab Narrative at the Lakewood Mall. Frank Alexander came clean with Las Vegas Investigators and he was told by the Los Angeles DA’s office and Death Row Records Associates that his life was now in danger. Those conversations were secretly recorded by Frank Alexander. (We have copies of these recordings). September 7, 7:30 PM – Michael Moore begins receiving telephone calls making sure that he is not guarding Tupac. September 7, 8:10 PM – Michael Moore continues receiving telephone calls making sure that he is not guarding Tupac. September 7, 8:15 PM – Tupac and Frank Alexander are in Luxor Lobby. Tupac insists that Michael Moore also guard him. Moore explains that he is not assigned to guard Tupac. September 7, 8:36 PM – Mike Tyson knocks out Bruce Seldon. September 7, 8:45 PM – Tupac, Suge and Frank are waiting in Tyson's dressing room. Suge is urging them to leave. September 7, 8:49 PM – Inside the MGM Grand a 10 second scuffle occurs between Tupac and Orlando Anderson. The entire entourage jumps in and within a few seconds the scuffle is over and MGM security detains Orlando Anderson. Tupac's medallion chain breaks. (Could it be that Moore receives telephone calls so that he would not be in the lobby of the MGM where Reggie Wright Sr. is seen supervising the interrogation of Orlando Anderson)? September 7, 8:53 PM – The entourage leaves the MGM and stops by the Luxor to change clothes. Frank Alexander repairs Tupac's medallion chain. September 7, 9:30 PM – The entourage heads to Suge Knight's house.

September 7, 10:33 PM – The entourage leaves Suge Knight's house in route to club 662. Suge asks Tupac to ride with him in a Black BMW 750. Frank Alexander is asked to take Kidada Jones' Lexus and follow behind. At 10:45 PM Reggie Wright leaves a voicemail for Kevin Hackie, “Kevin, you really fucked me over this time, you fucked me up this and that, you son of a bitch, this and that.”[247] September 7, 10:55 PM – Tupac rolls down the window and allows a fan to take a photo. September 7, 11:10 PM – Suge Knight is stopped by bicycle police on the Las Vegas Strip for not having license plates on the car. September 7, 11:15 PM – On Flamingo Road near Koval Lane a white 4-door car with Nevada Plates rolls up to the enger side of the BMW. An arm emerges from the window of the car and 12-13 shots are fired spraying the BMW. Malcolm Greenridge said he saw a dark skinned arm with a black gun fire from the white Cadillac.[248] “Very deliberate in his aim. Um, had he been wildly shooting he would have been able to shoot Mr. Knight as well as being a larger target. He definitely knew who he was shooting… there was no hesitation… the gun came out and it was pop pop pop pop pop pop pow as soon as the arm came out.”[249] Danny Patton aka “White Boy” said, "I shot that Tupac motherfucker. I was there man!"[250] “One name and I heard the name, uh I don’t know if it was Gansta White or it was something along that line.”[251] “The hit was supposed to go down at the club… the target of the hit at the club was Suge Knight.”[252] Malcolm said he was the shooter that was supposed to take out Suge Knight. “Danny's gun jammed. Malcolm shot twice and missed his target.”[253] Lil Half Dead was supposed to kill Tupac.[254] “Lil Half Dead was upset with Tupac because Tupac stole one of his songs.”[255] “Little half dead was the one that took 2 pac out.”[256] Brent Becker asked Yafeu Fula aka Kadafi why the shooter would want to do this? His answer was jealousy. He further stated that the shooter’s arm was dark black and that the driver was bald with a little moustache, and light skinned but not as light skinned as Kadafi. He said the driver had the face of a bitch “’cause he looked soft in the face.”[257] “The

person Turner saw seated right front enger, was described as a male/black, light brown skin, short hair (cut low), in his 20's (possible late 20's).”[258] “The hit team trio had rented a pearl white Cadillac at the Stratosphere Hotel Las Vegas.”[259] “Witness Hart stated that the white car was to their right and in front of them, so she was able to see the rear of the car. Hart feels that the white car had Nevada license plates (white with blue) and felt the car was possibly a rental. Hart thinks the shooting came from the driver's side of the white car and that there was four occupants.”[260] “Turner felt the Cadillac had ‘Nevada’ rear license plates with possible numbers ‘647.’”[261] Frank Alexander says, “All I saw was the arm and the gun and right away I knew it was a Glock Automatic.” Frank Alexander further stated the shooter was a dark black male. “I originally thought it was a 9mm but when I went back to the crime scene I heard it was a .40 caliber.”[262] “Three guns were used: tech 9, .45, and a Glock.”[263] “Turner thought that the occupants of the white Cadillac may have been shooting from both sides of the car.”[264] September 7, 11:16 PM – 22 Security Personnel wait for the entourage at Club 662. Michael Moore was standing in front of Club 662 with Reggie Wright. Moore hears "got 'em' coming over Wrights Nextel radio. Michael Moore spoke of standing next to Reggie Wright in front of Club 662 at the time of the shooting and hearing “Got ‘em” coming over the radio. A radio is significant because it implies that there were spotters as well as shooters. Wright's radio is one, the "got'em" radio is two, "don't say nothin'" is three, and there were at least three shooters in the car. That makes at least six people in on this shooting. This also makes this just like the Biggie Smalls Murder. “He (Noel Johnson aka Big Spank) just spoke on ‘em that you know, he ‘got ‘em.’”[265] “While I was working at 662. I heard something over the Nextels we were carrying and what I heard was ‘Got ‘em.’ The voice was definitely one of our security that works directly for Mr. Knight. Maybe the police should have concentrated more on Death Row, the Nextel Phone bills, and other things that could have helped them investigate it more in depth. I would definitely look more at Death Row than I would look at Mr. Anderson and that is what I gathered when I was at New York what I heard Pac tell Suge Knight and what I heard on the radio that night after the shots were fired. Right before me and Mr. Wright got into the vehicle to go to the hospital someone else came on the radio and said, 'Hey, don’t say nothin’ over the radio’ Mr. Wright and I were talking

about what had happened and I clearly heard someone say 'don’t say nothin’ over the radio.’ But the person that said it was not homeboy security, nor was it one of our security guards to me he was a stranger but the person that said it was Caucasian definitely not African-American.”[266] "'Em" probably refers to both Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight. With 13 shots being fired the shooters probably really thought they “Got ’em." The Shooting was an immediate failure. Tupac wasn’t killed and Suge was only hit by a bullet fragment. September 7, 11:17 PM – Suge Knight makes a U-turn on Flamingo and races west to Las Vegas Boulevard. September 7, 11:20 PM - Las Vegas Police arrive on the scene.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

HANDED A .40 GLOCK THE SHOOTER WAS READY TO KNOCK

According to Kevin Hackie the gun used to kill Tupac Shakur was a Glock .40 that was confiscated by an off-duty Santa Monica Police Officer during a routine search at the House of Blues of Hussein Fatal, one of Tupac's Outlawz on July 4, 1996 when he is detained attempting to enter the venue with his Glock .40. The off-duty Santa Monica Police officer wants to arrest Fatal but is talked out of it by Reggie Wright Jr. He agrees to allow Fatal to leave the venue and book the gun putting it through the system. As long as the gun comes up clean it will be returned. If not Fatal may face charges. That is the agreement that is struck that night with the off-duty Santa Monica Police Officer. In late July Reggie Wright s Kevin Hackie and asks him to keep tabs on the weapon. The off duty Santa Monica Officer takes the gun back to the Santa Monica Police Station. The gun was then ballistics tested by the FBI and run to see if the weapon was stolen or had been used in any crimes. There were no ballistics matches at that time so the FBI sends the weapon back to the Santa Monica Police. Sometime in August of 1996, Santa Monica Police Kevin Hackie and tell him the gun is cleared for pickup. Hackie, who was working undercover for the FBI and ATF, retrieves the gun and takes it to his handlers. They clear him to release the gun to Reggie Wright Jr. Hackie hands the gun to Reggie Wright Jr. [267] On September 7, 1996 the gun is used to kill Rapper Tupac Shakur. When Las Vegas Police book shell casings and bullets into evidence they are sent off to the FBI where they are ballistics tested. They are run through the federal database where according to Kevin Hackie they match the gun confiscated at the House of Blues and given to Reggie Wright Jr.. This may also be the gun that one of the

shooters attempted to drop off at Fox 11 Studios to Chris Blatchford. In his deposition Reggie Wright Jr. is asked about the gun.[268] Kim Valentine: Do you know an individual by the name of Kevin Hackie? Reggie Wright Jr.: Yes. Kim Valentine: And Kevin Hackie, at one point in time as I understand it, was a police officer? Reggie Wright Jr.: Compton Unified School Police, as I recall, yes. Kim Valentine: And did he provide services to-- well, strike that. was he ever an employee of Wright Way Protective services? Reggie Wright Jr.: Yes, he was. Kim Valentine: Do you recall approximately his dates of employment with Wright Way Protective services? Reggie Wright Jr.: Let me see. Maybe August, September of '95. Kim Valentine: Do you ever recall an occasion where any of your employees provided -- your wright way Protective services employees ever provided you with a weapon that came from a police department? Reggie Wright Jr.: I heard that allegation before somewhere. I don't -I don't where. I know the incident you are speaking of, but the gun was never given back to me. Kim Valentine: so you were never provided with a weapon by any of your employees that to your knowledge came from a police department? Reggie Wright Jr.: NO. Kim Valentine: And Kevin Heckie never provided you with a weapon that was allegedly from a police department? Reggie Wright Jr.: That's correct. You know what, that's not correct.

Kim Valentine: okay. Reggie Wright Jr.: That's not correct. Kevin did give me a gun that was taken from -- it was taken -- what it was -- yeah, it was an incident where a gun was taken from -- we had a concert or something. It was taken off of -- it was taken from one of the artists that was with us. And one of the other security guys took and held the gun and somehow I think him and Kevin hooked up and he gave the gun back to Kevin Heckie. I me and Kevin meeting about it and Kevin telling me he was going to give me the gun. I don't ever receiving the gun back from him. I the incident, but I don't if I got the gun or what happened to the gun. Kim Valentine: Did you ever send Hackie to go get the gun? Reggie Wright Jr.: I told Kevin to go meet with the guy. I think it was a santa Monica or LAPD cop. I don't know. I don't too much about it. Kevin probably gave it back to the guy that he took it from. I don't know. Kim Valentine: Do you know who he took it from? Reggie Wright Jr.: It was either Tupac or one of his boys. Kim Valentine: Do you know what type of gun that was? Reggie Wright Jr.: It was a Glock, a 40 caliber. Kim Valentine: why did you tell Kevin to go get this gun from the police officer? Reggie Wright Jr.: I was going to give the gun back to the owner of it. Kim Valentine: who was the owner it of? Reggie Wright Jr.: who? It was somebody who was -- somebody we were supplying security for. one of the guys -- it was one of Tupac's boys. Somebody that was with Tupac. I don't know which one it was. Kim Valentine: was there ever an occasion where any of your police officers ever provided you with any other weapon other than the one we were just discussing? Reggie Wright Jr.: No.

Kim Valentine: so you ultimately never got the gun from Kevin Hackie? Reggie Wright Jr.: I don't that. Because I don't know what I did with the gun if I got it, but I do some discussion about that now. I was wondering what the heck you were talking about. Chris Blatchford once again intersects with this story when he interviews Frank Alexander and Kevin Hackie. “He said that once I gave him that firearm that he gave it to his daddy who at the time was a lieutenant with the Compton Police over the gang division. He said his daddy booked that firearm into property which is really and truly far fetched… about six months after Tupac’s murder Reggie told me you know at any give time I have the money I have the people I can have you killed at any given time.”[269]

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

PEACE TRUCE WAS JUST A RUSE?

There was a gang summit in Balboa Park. The gangs in attendance included: ICG= Long Beach Insane Crip Gang, Geer Gang = West Adams District of South LA; Ghost Town = Crips in Venice; Front Street = Watts Crips; 52 = Five Deuce at 52nd Street and South Broadway; A Try Hoovers = Eight Tray Hoovers - 83rd Hoovers; and South Park = 51st and Avalon.[270] All of these are Crip Sets. White Boy is listed as a Leuders Park Piru which would make this a Blood/Crip hit. Reggie Wright is also d with the Bloods and if you are going to take over Death Row Records by killing Suge Knight both of which are clearly d with the Bloods you would want to reach outside to the Crips. Confidential Informant Robert Soria says, “Sharitha Knight and Reggie Wright are behind the murder.”[271] “First there was a get together in Balboa Park in the San Fernando Valley for different gangs” disguised as a Blood/Crips truce meeting but was really a feeler for Wright to see how much it would take to get Tupac hit. “Wright wanted rights to all of Tupac’s material.” On the night of Tupac’s murder Wright “told the killers” where Tupac and Suge would be. “Those not in on the plan were sent to the 662 Club in Las Vegas.” The hitmen hired to do the job were Lil ½ Dead, Danny Patton and Malcolm Patton. “Danny was paid 100-thousand dollars for the hit in the form of a cashier's check. Danny signed the check.”[272] “A bounty was put on 2 pac and Night. Mr. Writh Jr. gave Info where 2 pac was going to be.”[273] Robert Soria tells of videotape that exists of the meeting in Balboa Park. Chris Blatchford tells of hearing an audiotape of the confession. Soria claims he still has that audiotape along with the video tape “in a safe place.” According to all three sources Reggie Wright Jr. asks for help in taking out both Tupac Shakur

and Suge Knight. Soria says that David Kenner was also at the gang summit. At that summit it was decided that Donald Smith aka Lil Half Dead, Malcolm Patton and Danny Patton aka Whiteboy would be the shooters. Robert Soria says David Kenner was at the meeting with gangs. “I was the shooter that was told to take Night out.” – Malcolm Patton. “I know that there were some other Southside guys there (in Las Vegas at the time of Tupac’s Murder) too, but I never saw them.”[274]

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

TAKE AWAY EVERY GUN THIS IS NO DRY RUN

“At 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon, in Las Vegas, at the Luxor, security was all brought together by Reggie Wright, on the day Tupac was shot, and we were told not to carry weapons cause we were all armed. We thought it was strange. Why were we told not to carry weapons even cops were told not to carry their weapons.”[275] Noon - There is a meeting with 23 security personnel and attorney George Kelesis where security personnel are asked not to carry weapons. Reggie Wright disarmed all security guards on the night of the shooting. This was a break from the normal protocol when guarding artists in Las Vegas. Michael Moore refused the order and insisted on carrying his weapon. He was removed from guarding Tupac Shakur and was ordered to Club 662 where he was to stay close to Reggie Wright. – From Tupac Assassination. 23 security personnel are gathered and George Kelesis tells them that they cannot carry weapons. Subsequently, Reggie Wright Jr. gathers together security personnel a few hours before everybody goes to club 662 to tell them that they cannot carry weapons. Michael Moore is pulled off of guarding Tupac Shakur when he refuses Reggie’s order to disarm. Reggie calls him repeatedly in his room to make sure he is not guarding Tupac and that he is in his room. Then Reggie Wright keeps Moore close to him at Club 662. Moore tells of hearing “Got ‘em” come over Reggie’s radio followed by “Don’t say nothin’ over the radio” that also comes over Reggie Wright Jr.’s Radio. “I was told that I was being taken off of Tupac” Reggie Wright said, “Michael Moore do what you’re told.” “I think the reason they removed me from Tupac was that I was one of the few people that wouldn’t buy into not carrying my weapon. So they removed me off

Tupac so there wouldn’t be a weapon there.” “At 3 o’clock or 4 o’clock in the afternoon, in Las Vegas, at the Luxor, security was all brought together by Reggie Wright on the day that Tupac was shot, and we were told not to carry weapons. ‘cause we were all armed. Everybody thought it was strange. Why were we told not to carry weapons? Even the cops were told not to carry weapons. It was very, very, odd.”[276] “We were also instructed to lie by Reggie Wright to Suge and the reason we were instructed to lie was because Reggie Wright told us not to carry any weapons. Suge called a meeting. All the artists were instructed to come to this meeting and certain security was invited and I happened to be one of them. And prior to going into that meeting with Suge and all of the artist from Death Row, Reggie met with us out front in his own meeting and instructed us to say certain things… The meeting was about what happened. The artists were drilling security about what methods we had used and what were some of our tactics. I looked around and nobody said anything nobody was speaking up for security. So I was one of the few people that stood up and said, ‘Wait a minute, we were instructed not to carry any weapons that day.’”[277] “On 9-11-96: Mr. Kenner, Mr. Chesnoff and Mr. Kelesis all said Knight would be coming to our office for an interview. It appeared to me Mr. Kelesis was not involved with Mr. Kenner or Mr. Chesnoff in the representation of Knight. In fact, there is obvious friction between Mr. Kenner and Mr. Kelesis.”[278] Could that friction have been Mr. Kelesis knowing he had become an accessory to murder?

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

CADILLAC DRIVE BY EYE IN THE SKY DOESN’T LIE

The plot comes right out of the popular 1993 urban film, “Menace II Society.” There is an altercation and the victims become the perpetrators. The Orlando Anderson beating establishes a motive for the killing of Tupac and Suge. It threw investigators off of sniffing into the bigger motive of the 500 million dollar value of Death Row Records, the 51 million dollar Lloyds of London life insurance policy on Tupac Shakur, and control of West Coast Rap and Hip Hop. Why pick that plot from that movie? It was a private joke. “Menace II Society” was the film that Tupac was hired for but was later fired. Tupac assaulted director Allen Hughes because of his frustration at the way he was being treated. Tupac was later found guilty for assault and battery for the attack. Tupac had been set up on that movie too. According to MC Eiht, the Hughes Brothers only got financing for the movie because Tupac was attached. They knew that they didn’t want to work with him so they kept frustrating him wanting him to quit. “They knew what they were doing; they knew they was aggravating him. ‘Cause they wanted him to quit.” Finally, Tupac became so disruptive that it came to blows. “So, every day it was disruption in the rehearsal. It was funny to us. We laughed, we joked; it was funny. But they were serious, ‘cause you know them: ‘We on a time schedule, we on a budget.’ So, they kicked him out the movie.”[279] Boiling a murder down to a “gang thing” had worked for the El Rey Theater beating. Why couldn’t it work as the reason Tupac and Suge Knight were shot and killed? Who would dream up such an elaborate plan? The foremost Rap and Hip Hop

criminal defense attorney and the former cop/justice istration graduate who was responsible for orchestrating security that night? They certainly would have the means, and motive but did they have the opportunity? But what if the head of the gang detail at the Compton Police were also involved? Turns out that Reggie Wright Sr. is on the Orlando Anderson security footage and someone that looks just like Reggie Wright. Jr. is seen escorting Orlando Anderson away from security on the night of the shooting. The man that looks exactly like Reggie Wright Jr. shakes Anderson’s hand and takes him away from where he is being detained. They had control of the situation from beginning to end. It didn’t even matter that Orlando Anderson had an airtight alibi. “After the Tyson fight, I (Corey Edwards) went to a bar in the hotel and drank with Gouchi and Stacy Augman (retired professional basketball player). That's when I saw some other friends of mine. I asked them what was going on and they said that Baby Lane and Tupac had gotten into a fight. I looked around and saw Baby Lane standing in the corner. Me and Gouchi walked up to him and asked him what had happened and if he was okay. He said that he had got into it with Tupac and Tupac's people, but that everything was cool. Baby Lane didn't appear to be injured or too upset about what happened. We walked away from him and continued to drink at the bar.”[280] There is absolutely no way that Orlando Anderson could have been the shooter that night. He was in the bar after the fight and physically could not have carried out the hit. the eye in the sky doesn’t lie. Time tag 8:47:16 PM on September 7, 1996 Orlando Anderson is seen walking in the crowd at the MGM. Time tag 8:49:42 PM on September 7, 1996 a woman reacts to something and takes refuge behind a pillar. The camera reveals the beating of Orlando Anderson. Time tag 8:49:58 PM on September 7, 1996 security guards have arrived and the beating ceases. Time tag 8:53:32 PM on September 7, 1996 Reggie Wright Sr. enters the screen looking at security detaining Orlando Anderson. We see him until 8:54:04. “We all thought he (Reggie Wright Sr.) was gettin’ paid on the side.”[281]

Time tag 8:55:22 It appears that Reggie Wright Jr. enters from the right of the screen and walks over to shake Orlando Anderson’s hand and escort him away. Four minutes after the Orlando Anderson Beating Reggie Wright Sr. is already on the scene on a fight night in Las Vegas. Five minutes after the beating Reggie Wright Jr. has shaken Orlando’s hand and is escorting him away on a fight night in Las Vegas. “I received four phone calls prior to Tupac getting killed. Three of the calls came from Mr. Wright and one phone call came from Al Giddens… I said why are you calling me in my room at 8 if I’m not supposed to be there until 10? ‘Reggie just called me and told me to call you.’ I said, ‘don’t call me no more. After that all of my calls came directly from Mr. Wright. I think there was a reason for that and the reason was making sure that no one carried a weapon.” So why was Reggie Wright Jr. calling and having Michael Moore called so many times to make sure he was in his room in the minutes preceding the Orlando Anderson scuffle? “(Green and McCully) They basically told me, you know, they had a disturbance that night at the hotel there, and supposedly Baby Lane Anderson had supposedly stolen his chain, whatever, this and that, at the mall. Lakewood Mall. But a bunch of bullshit anyway. “Anyhow I talked to Frank, I said what was going? He was all shaken up, this and that. And then he finally pulled me to the side and he says, you know, they called me out to the house there, you know, they want me to tell the detectives, because at the time no one had given any statements to the metro PD. They wanted Frank to go ahead, Suge and Reggie called him out to the house with Chicken Bone, Neckbone, Buntry, Alton McDonald Buntry, and all the homies out there basically at the house in Vegas. And basically told Frank, you know, to go ahead, let detectives talk to you. “In fact, Kenner was out there too. Basically go ahead and tell them, you know, this is the guy that stole Tupac’s chain. I told Frank then, I said, you know, don’t lie to them, but this is not what happened. Now if the incident had happened, I would have known about it. And I told him then, I said, well, that is the first time I hearing of this.”[282] “It wasn’t Suge that brought down Death Row either. It was Travon Lane, bitch

ass,” said DJ Quik. “Scary ass nigga got that chain took and then got Tupac in there fighting. And then that’s how Tupac got shot. Because Travon Lane — he was like the little bully. He was like an instigator. It’s always the one that don’t mean nothing that bring the whole house of cards down. Travon Lane, you ought to be real proud of yourself. You’s a bitch ass nigga. Nigga, you fucked it up for everybody.”[283]

CHAPTER NINETEEN

ASSIGN THE BLAME PUT FRANK IN THE FRAME

Why ask Frank to lie about the Orlando Anderson Chain Grab incident? All of the other witnesses were convicted felons and therefore not credible. If they could get Frank Alexander compromised they could also discredit him. Reggie told frank to place the incident at 6:30 PM. Frank told that lie to Brent Becker of the Las Vegas Municipal Police Department. Once it was entered into the record Frank could easily be shown in the witness box as a liar thereby discrediting all of his testimony. Frank Alexander said, “Mr. Kenner made it seem as if I ratted everyone out and that is why I started hearing that I was getting these death threats, because I ratted everyone out. I fingered all the players in the entourage.[284] “I informed Reggie that I wasn’t taking my weapon off for no one. My gun did not belong to Wrightway.”[285] “I was told that I was being taken off of Tupac” Reggie Wright said, “Michael Moore do what you’re told.” “I think Frank had no idea that I received four phone calls prior to Tupac getting killed. Three of the phone calls came from Mr. Wright and one phone call came from Al Giddeons who was head of Club 662 security. I said, ‘Al, why are you calling me at ten after eight if I’m not supposed to be there until ten.’ And his answer was Reggie just called me and told me to call you. I said, ‘well don’t call me no more’ and then after that all of my phone calls came from Mr. Wright.”[286] Could it be that Reggie Wright Jr. didn’t want Michael Moore wandering through the MGM bumping into Reggie Wright Sr. or others that were part of staging the Orlando Anderson staged incident?

Frank Alexander was given the sole responsibility of guarding Tupac. Alexander intercedes in the Orlando Anderson scuffle and detains Tupac. His responsibility is to protect Tupac. The Orlando Anderson scuffle was being billed as a beating. The El Rey Theater, where Kelly Jamerson was stomped, pummeled, hit with bottles, kicked and punched, that was a beating. Frank is unarmed and riding behind Tupac and Suge in a black Lexis. When shots ring out there is virtually nothing he can do but watch. But Frank becomes a larger part of the controversy because of what he reportedly says to investigators about the Orlando Anderson scuffle. Frank gives two statements to Brent Becker on the night of the shooting. He gives a more detailed report on October 1st where he lies about Orlando Anderson snatching at Tupac’s chain. Reggie had asked him to tag that event at 6:30 PM on the night of the shooting and scuffle with Orlando Anderson. But that isn’t the statement that gets entered into the official record for Suge’s Probation violation hearing. The statement that gets entered into the court record comes from the Compton Police department. It is no coincidence that Reggie Wright Sr. is at the Orlando Anderson beating. The scuffle was staged to violate Suge on his probation if he couldn’t be killed that night and Frank Alexander was set-up to be the fall guy. “You snitched on them.”[287] Moore tells Alexander that his life is now in danger from the Death Row Records people. Frank Alexander becomes the distraction to keep Suge from knowing that he is being played. While Suge is focusing on Frank Alexander he isn’t paying attention to the details of the case. They are able to enter Frank Alexander’s statement about “Suge kicking” Orlando Anderson through Compton Police without ever having him testify. “You never would have gotten this involved if they didn’t give up your name. If David Kenner and them wouldn’t have been trying to subpoena you and get you down there.” Michael Moore: “Some of this is yawl’s fault. Reggie: ‘What do you mean?” Michael Moore: “If you guys wouldn’t have tricked him down there – tricked

him down to the courthouse – got his name all over everything he wouldn’t have been down there. What did Reggie say? ‘Well.’ They thing was they was trying to use you too. See that’s what they were doing. They were using you for their advantage. That’s just the bottom line. That’s what they was doing.”[288] On November 19, 1996 Frank Alexander calls David Kenner and presses him to know which of the reports the information came from. He cites the two reports from the night of the Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight shooting and the subsequent report with Brent Becker. Kenner answers, “The one that came up was a Compton Police Department report.” They didn't get the report entered through Las Vegas, they got it entered through Compton via Reggie Wright Sr.

CHAPTER TWENTY

ARTISTS NOT GETTIN’ PAID FOR THE SONGS THEY MADE WHO’S BEING PLAY’D

Confession letter indicates that Reggie Wright Jr. selected Lil' Half Dead to murder Tupac Shakur because of a previous interaction between Lil' Half Dead and Tupac where Tupac stole a song from him. Look at the album cover for Lil' Half Dead's "Dead Serious" where you will see a slumped over dead Tupac at Can-Am Studios. Sampling and theft appear to have been a common practice in the early roots of Rap music.[289] The history of the music industry is a history of theft and that is all very big business. The group, Blurred Lines, their record label, and the publishing company earned over 24 million dollars from the theft of music from Marvin Gaye. Led Zeppelin is one of the most rumored bands to steal names, lyrics, and riffs in the process of creating their music. Why are we to think that Hip-Hop and Rap would be any different? The confession letter says that demo stealing “was a major problem.”[290] In a recent interview Suge Knight said, “Rest in peace Eazy-E. One thing about Eric. Eric told me one day. I thought Andre did all the music – all the beats. You know what Eric told me? People sent their demos in Andre redo them. We redo the raps. That's the song. I took that same get down. So basicly I took it from Eazy and did the same shit. I took that from Eazy. And guess what? Jimmy Iovine sent me to prison and stole it from me.”[291] Suge Knight was being asked about checks coming to Death Row Records PO Box and he said he was more interested in the demo tapes. So was there any evidence that Tupac also stole music? There is. Feburary 21 – Tupac releases “Dear Mama” during his incarceration. The single

sold over seven million copies during the time Tupac was in prison. It was the most successful single on the album “Me Against the World.” There was a claim that the concept for the song was created by rapper Kill Kill and stolen by Tupac. Kill Kill, a rapper from Watts, claims that his concept for Mama Dear was stolen by Tupac when he recorded “Dear Mama.”[292] The song “Here We Go One Time,” confirms that a rapper who has his song stolen might be mad enough to commit murder. Lil’ Half Dead met Tupac Shakur at the Bonaventure Hotel where he gave Tupac his demo tape of four songs. Three months later, “Brenda’s Got a Baby,” a song written by Lil’ Half Dead was released by Tupac. In Reno Lil’ Half Dead confronted Tupac about the songs that were taken and Tupac’s Soldiers beat Lil’ Half Dead down.[293] Lil’ Half Dead was sponsored by Suge Knight and he was sold off to Priority Records. According to Tony Green, Tupac would take all of the tracks that “was laying around and just start cuttin’ on them.”[294] Donald Smith aka Lil' Half Dead was the alleged triggerman on September 7th, 1996 responsible for killing Tupac Shakur. Smith is the cousin of Calvin Broadus aka Snoop Dogg. Smith was represented by Suge Knight and Death Row Records and his contract was sold off to Priority Records. He had given a demo tape to Tupac and two of his songs were stolen by Tupac according to the confession letter. Theft in the Hip-Hop world was a common practice at that time. Smith is d with the Long Beach Crips. Snoop Dogg, Donald Smith's cousin, tells Sheriff's deputies on May 14, 1998 that Suge Knight was behind the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Was this to throw law enforcement off the trail of his cousin? When you look at the cover of "Dead Serious," by Lil' Half Dead, there is a picture of a murdered Tupac at Can-Am Studios. Half Dead is Snoop's enforcer.[295]

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

THEY TOPPLED THE HOST MANY GAVE UP THE GHOST

“A lot of people have died that were directly or indirectly tied to this investigation.”[296] – Brent Becker. “He also said "Neckbone" would be killed later because he knew the identity of the shooters. Neckbone was, in fact, killed at a later date.”[297] “Something Heron knows got him smoked.”[298] Murders in immediate aftermath of Tupac Shakur's murder were those d, witnesses, or with knowledge of the murder. Yak Fula was an assassination hit and Death Row Records were the first to call it a suicide. (We have the tapes of telephone calls between Frank Alexander and various Death Row Insiders about this murder. Also we have the FBI report that states this was an execution murder). Ken Knox, Senior Lead, details in a police report that New Jersey Crips and Los Angeles Bloods are together in Death Row's CAN-AM Studios together a few weeks before Yak Fula is assassinated in New Jersey. David Kenner is ed by Las Vegas Police to arrange the interview of Yak Fula. Kenner never arranges the interview and Fula is killed before Las Vegas Investigators can find him on their own. Michael Moore tries to get Frank Alexander to flip to their story so he isn’t killed; “Too many people are accidently dying. Why wait for an accident to happen. You go on the other side and you are targeted.”[299] They feared that Suge would retaliate. That is why they killed his inner-circle before he got out of prison to weaken Suge from putting together muscle to retaliate upon his release and to leave him unprotected. Reggie Wright Jr. has ties through his father to Compton Police who attempted to steer the investigation toward a conclusion that Orlando Anderson was the shooter in the murder of Tupac Shakur. Orlando Anderson has an airtight alibi as

Las Vegas has cameras everywhere. Cory Edwards tells of seeing Orlando Anderson at the bar about the time of the shooting. Las Vegas Police are handed Orlando Anderson by Compton Police during a raid. They are expected by Compton Police to arrest him as he is being handed up on a silver platter as the shooter. Las Vegas Police are not even interested in him because they already know about his airtight alibi. Compton Police established this pattern when they also steered the investigation in the El Rey Theater murder of Kelly Jamerson and stopped LAPD investigators from issuing indictments. Frank Alexander secret recordings of his telephone calls with Death Row Insiders and reporter Chuck Philips give insight into interworking of Death Row Records and their ties to Philips in creating false stories that are planted in the LA Times. Chuck Philips is dismissed when he is caught fabricating a story about the murder of Tupac Shakur thus solidifying the planting of stories to throw investigators and public opinion off of the trail of the real killers of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. September 17 - A confidential informant tells police that Marion 'Suge' Knight delivered a load of AK47 assault rifles to gang at Nickerson Gardens. They said Neckbone knew the identity of the shooters and that he would be killed. Neckbone was subsequently killed in Texas.[300] Caffey also discussed the incident on 9/16/96 with the gangster caravan attempted veh stop by Jetter & Yamamoto. An informant advised him that on 9/17/96 AK47's were delivered in Nickerson Gardens by Suge Knight's crew and that these same guns were in the aforementioned caravan on 9/16/96. There have already been 9 separate drive by shootings between the Piru Bloods from Compton & the South Side Compton Crips. “Reggie called me, this is about 30 minutes before this happened, Reggie called and cursed me out and everything. As I said, the majority of the time I would always drive Tupac around. “And so I asked Reggie about two days later, you know, he says that fucking Frank didn’t have his gun, this and that, so on and so on. I said, Reggie, I thought you had it all arranged in advance with some attorney they were dealing with down there, some attorney that they had at the time something to do with the Club 662 that all the guys were going down there prior to get authorization

from the Vegas police, you know, to carry firearms, which generally they will do it, but you have to go down there in a timely fashion.”[301] Two days after Tupac is shot Kevin Hackie is using the telephone at the hospital to talk to the FBI. A doctor overhears his conversation and asks him who he is providing information to. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department cops get involved in a turf war and object to Hackie discussing their case with the FBI and give Hackie until 8 PM to get out of town. When Reggie hears about this he becomes suspicious of Hackie and starts calling him a snitch.[302] September 16, 1996 - From Police Logs, "A.M. Watch Ofcrs Jetter & Yamamoto were working a -crime suppression detail to address gang activity problems @ Death Row records , 18730 Oxnard St., Suite 211. Ofcr Jetters spoke with the head of security@ Death Row, (Reggie Wright) & was informed by Mr. Wright that since the death of Tupac, Marion Suge Knight was now using gangsters (Bloods) from Compton as his own personal body guards and that they were armed. Ofcr Jetter was familiar with Knight's personal veh which was there at that time. At approx. 0500 hrs. Jetters & Yamamoto obsd four vehs leave Death Row Records in Gang caravan fashion. The Ofcrs obsd Suge Knight in the middle veh of the caravan. What is significant is that Reggie Wright Jr. informs the police that Suge is now using convicted felons as his on personal bodyguards. Reggie was snitching on Suge about a clear probation violation. Buntry was in a car with Reggie Wright Sr. When he got out to pump gas somebody killed him. “Buntry was the heavy heavy muscle of Suge.”[303] Reggie Wright Jr. was the one that brought (Malcolm Greenridge) to that interview.[304] We need to talk to Yafeu Fula. Brent Becker said he left messages with David Kenner about interviewing Yafeu Fula. He got the run-around and then was notified that he was murdered in New Jersey.[305] “The only thing I heard, uh, and I heard it from Reggie Wright Jr. is that earlier that year around April time frame, that Trevon had gotten into a fight at the Lakewood Mall in a Footlocker, and it was with Orlando Anderson.”[306] Under the plan Kenner and Wright Jr. had devised Suge’s death was preferable

but Suge being incarcerated with no ability under California law to conduct busness from prison was a very secure position for them. They had Suge drain all of the working capital out of the bank s, they eliminated the ant, financial records, and stopped all of the activity within the company. The employees were not being paid and loyalty to Suge was waning. Still Reggie wasn’t worried about money. He said to Michael Moore, “we won’t be wanting for anything.” He confided in Michael Moore because he knew he had no choice. He knew that Michael Moore had heard “got ‘em” come over Wright’s radio at the time of the Tupac shooting and attempted murder of Suge. They exchanged a glance. As long as Reggie could pay Moore he would remain silent. Reggie invented work for Moore. He already had a full-scale mop-up in the aftermath of the shooting. “Well that didn’t work, that didn’t work. I said, Reggie, if you – you had – he had like 20 guys working security off-duty cops. I said, why would you have all of those guys over here at the hotel and have one guy with Tupac? Now, all the time Tupac has been out and I have been with him I always went by myself. It was just me and him all the time. “About two weeks prior – actually two weeks before he was shot about 1:30 in the morning on Sunset up here, we saw the sheriffs rode up, we were at Sunset and, I can’t think of the cross street, right where Sunset and West Hollywood turns into Beverly Hills, they wanted to go out clubbing, Tupac was driving a Rolls with all the Outlawz in the back. “I was in the back of the car. A couple of guys came up along his car and they – early model Toyota sedan, dark-colored black guys, gang , started flashing all kinds of signs, whatever, this and that. I am like, damn, here I am by myself. I exit my car, you know , using caution going up, and I pulled my badge and I said, look, guys, I am an off-duty cop. Just go ahead and get out of here. “So they started all sorts of bullshit, this and that. So of course, the group with Tupac, they started acting, you know, come on now, let’s fight, mother fuckers, this and that. So, by that time, you know, I told the driver, I said, let me see your hands, like this. No, man, fuck, he aint going to do this and that, I said look mother fucker, by this time I pulled my gun down at the side. I said, look, get your ass on. It is like this. So, they turned around and he says, oh, man, geez, he has got a gun, and they sped off.

“I was like, damn. I put my gun up. We go to Sunset and Fairfax, I believe it is an ARCO AM/PM up there. I told Tupac, I said, you know, what the fuck are you doing? I mean getting out here at 1:30 in the morning to get some cigarettes, this and that. And I am like, damn. His Rolls Royce is here, the Cadillac is behind it, this and that. “So, I see Saturday night detectives pull up, either West Tech or Belair Patrol. Two big fat guys. So I said, damn, they think they really got something here, I am sure. So by that time I see one 5/0 unit pull up. So, I kind of approach him, I have a badge in hand. He says, we just got a call, a 211, somebody trying to rob Tupac Shakur. By that time it was Christmas. They had every, I guess every car in West Hollywood and then some go to that location. “And so, of course, I ask Reggie, I said, knowing what went on two weeks prior, why would you have him there by himself? And why would you have him, you know, Frank is not even a cop, why wouldn’t he at least have one of the retired cops or the off-duty cops? Because he had quite a few off-duty cops working at the time, so why wouldn’t he have one of them with him basically? “I am not saying that, you know, when you go into Vegas, basically most of the time they give you common courtesy, but I am saying at least they would have had their firearms with them, because based upon the fact Reggie was supposed to set up everything for these guys to go down to file the paperwork for Vegas. “Which they never did. So he just kind of shunned away from that, didn’t say anything about it. And Frank said basically, you know, they threatened him because Frank left town thereafter, I think a couple hours later he got himself and got out of there. Basically they threatened him what was going to happen. And, of course, Hodgeman’s office started calling him down once they are going to go ahead and revoke Suge’s probation, so basically he got threatened then. “You know, Frank had called me in early November, Reggie wanted him to come out to the office. So I was on duty that night. So, I drove over there and met Frank. And he says, you know, can you please stand by? I said, you know, I really don’t want to get involved with this mess. So, whoever the attorney was in there with Reggie, they knew that I was out – I was on duty, they knew I was out there, and he said don’t bring fucking Kevin’s ass in here because he is all pissed off.

“And so, you know, I figured by that time, of course, his daddy started leaking things in. Well, of course, I had been talking with the FBI and so on and so on. And about, I would say March of last year, March or February, I get a call from Reggie out of the blue. “‘Kevin, I need a favor, can you drive for me,’ this and that? I am like, ‘What? Can I drive for you?’ I said, ‘Reggie, what do you think I am, fucking stupid?’ I said, ‘You know me well enough to know right now,’ I said, ‘if you want to do something to me, you want to go ahead and take me out,’ I said, ‘be a man, take me out.’ Because he knows if he comes up against me one-on-one he will lose. “Reggie says, ‘Oh, fuck you, mother fucker, I can have you killed at any given time.’ I said, ‘Reggie, you know where I am at.’ I said, ‘you know it is your ballgame, do what you got to do.’ “But as I said again, hey, he is trying to set me up. He hadn’t talked to me for four or five months, he said I was a snitch, the whole shebang, this and that. And then all of a sudden he calls me up and he wants me to drive for him, you know.”[307] “I’m surprised Reggie’s not in prison. I know he used to hold money, I know he used to handle shit.”[308] Without a catalyst they never would have received the full co-operation of the Compton Police department. The murder of Bobby Finch, close to home for the department, provided that catalyst. He was the brother of Larry Finch, who was a police officer at the Compton School Police. That made the Tupac murder investigation personal for all of the Compton cops – that made them emotional – easier to steer into certain directions and imioned to put Suge Knight away. For as long as they had nobody to charge with Tupac’s or Bobby Finch’s murder they could vent their anger on Suge. When Reggie Wright Sr. suggested they get involved in putting Suge away they all lined up to participate. Now it wasn’t “if” as Wright Sr. had speculated but it became a certainty that something was going to happen to Suge. September 11 – Bobby Finch is killed in a drive-by Shooting at 1513 May Street. His brother is a Compton School Police Officer. Corey Edwards tells investigators, “I warned my neighbor Bobby Finch and his brother Larry about the Mob Piru probably riding through our neighborhood. Bobby and Larry aren't gang . Bobby did security and bodyguard work.

His brother Larry, who works for Compton Unified School District as a school police officer, has his own security company. Bobby would do security work for his brother at clubs and also work for this lawyer named Mitch. Bobby was one of Mitch's bodyguards. Bobby also did the security for Tishina Arnold the actress from the television show ‘Martin.’”[309] “Wednesday, September 11, thirty-year-old Bobby Finch dropped off his tenyear-old daughter at 1513 South Mayo, his mother’s home in Compton. The home was located in the south end of the Southside Crips’ known territory: Finch also felt safe. The violence of the past few days would not affect him. Besides it was too early. Most gang were awake till all hours of the night. Their mornings were spent snoring, or recovering from hangovers caused by fortyounce bottles of cheap malt liquor. “Sitting behind the wheel of his new Acura… A Honda Civic hatchback pulled up. ‘Someone just drove up alongside and blasted him,’ said and LAPD homicide detective.’”[310] So why kill Bobby Finch? If you are going to steer the investigation from within the Compton Police you have to get them in the game. Nothing raises the stakes more than a killing close to home of someone they consider to be family. Make the investigation personal. Dupe them into believing that Southside Crips and MOB Piru are engaged in a war and they will unleash all disposable resources to get the killers. But who actually killed Bobby Finch? Kevin Hackie tells investigators, “I called Reggie and I said, Reggie, Finch’s brother just got killed. How do you know about that, whatever, I mean, the dispatcher at the Compton school police, Barbara just called me, this occurred within like three or four minutes, because one of the officers from Compton College, because Compton College police, Mario, who also – he works part time for Compton School District Police, where Bobbie lived was like within two blocks of the college. “So, being they hear the gunshots, Mario was the first guy there as soon as Bobbie got shot. And, you know, I called Reggie three or four minutes later, and the incident just occurred, because when Mario called for help from, you know, the Compton College Paramedics, our units, our units were there right then. There is no way in hell Reggie being in Vegas, Reggie would have known that soon if they hadn’t already set it up. Finch was a set-up. He walked out to his

car, got in the car, going to take off, some guy pulled up in a sedan and pumped a couple of rounds through the car. He left his house. Based upon the fact the statement that Reggie had made to me, he basically said to me don’t mention that to Suge, I already know about it. “I am like, well, you know, how did you know? This just happened within the last three or four minutes.”[311] Reggie Wright Jr. talks to his father about the raids and gets information so that he can prepare the gangs for what was about to happen. They were able to steer the investigation to locations that had been swept before the raids occurred.[312] “Get rid of the guns.”[313] Tim Brennan excludes Danny Patton from the list of Blood Gang at the end of his affidavit.[314] But what wasn’t certain was who was going to run Death Row Records. After the shooting in Vegas but before Suge’s arrest he was using his inner-circle as bodyguards instead of Reggie or Wrightway personnel as was customary. Reggie saw this as an opportunity to snitch on Suge by telling police about this clear probation violation. “9/16/96 1200-0500 -A.M. Watch Officers Jetter & Yamamoto were working a crime suppression detail to address gang activity problems @ Death Row Records , 18730 Oxnard St., Suite 211. Ofcr Jetters spoke with the head of security@ Death Row, (Reggie Wright) & was informed by Mr. Wright that since the death of Tupac, Marion Suge Knight was now using gangsters (Bloods) from Compton as his own personal body guards and that they were armed.”[315] If Reggie was going to regain Suge’s trust he was going to need to show him the ultimate Grand Gesture. As the hearing approached Reggie and Kenner appeared to be working hard to secure Suge Knight’s freedom. They also appeared to have a major setback when it was learned that Frank Alexander, the only credible witness had told investigators that Suge had kicked Orlando Anderson. Reggie made it very public that Frank was now a rat – a snitch and that he should be killed. Those rumors got back to Frank quickly. There were many of Frank’s friends offering

confirmation: “Death Row Records wants you dead.” Reggie even threatened Frank directly: “What are you and your white wife going to do? Go into hiding?”[316] So many people had had “accidents.” Yak Fula had been executed and Death Row Records issued rumors about Yak’s death as having been an accident and then as a suicide. They never ed up an opportunity to create confusion and sell fear. The confusion caused anything that wasn’t nailed down to disappear. The bank s were in tact. The music masters had been safely moved but many of the things laying around disappeared between Suge’s arrest and his being transferred to prison to serve his 9 year stretch. Lots of furniture and records were moved to Glendale to create venue problems for investigators wanting to issue search warrants and some of the stuff was being shipped out of State. Suge Knight was being kept in the dark of most of what was happening on the outside. He was arrested with almost no time to prepare for a long absence at the helm of Death Row Records. The book "Murder Rap" is released that pins the murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace on the dead guys. The book is written by Greg Kading who is close to Reggie Wright Jr. – a suspect in the Biggie Smalls Killing and is now a suspect in the Tupac Shakur Killing. Greg Kading its in the book that he had no access to the Christopher Wallace Civil Trial documents which excludes the most significant portion of the case. The book follows the same story line as the previously planted stories by LA Times journalist Chuck Philips. Greg Kading is also the former lead detective on the Christpher Wallace homicide and previous partner of Daryn Dupree. Dupree is the cop that leaked the confession letter to Kading. Kading had an additional motive to derail the confession letter – his book and movie deal that would prove worthless if the case is solved in an alternate way. Kading s journalist Chris Blatchford and further attempts to derail the letter with Chris. His emails are very similar to the Chuck Philips secret tape recording made by Frank Alexander where instead of asking questions they attempt to sell a conclusion. On June 24, 2014 Russell Poole and RJ Bond met with four representatives from LAPD and provided them with a copy of the confession letter. They place special marking on the letter and receive assurances that the information will be

investigated. Instead it is leaked. Six days after the letter appears on the Internet Suge Knight is shot in a West Hollywood Nightclub by assailants that yell, “You killed Tupac” as they fire shots at Knight. The attempt to derail the Confession Letter is traced back to Reggie Wright Jr., Daryn Dupree (one of the cops that Russell and RJ gave the confession letter to) was Greg Kading's partner who is a close friend and apologist of Reggie Wright Jr. implicated in the letter as responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur and the attempt on Suge Knight on September 7, 1996. Greg Kading was first person to talk about letter on Internet after it was given to LAPD. The confession letter, given to LAPD, had special markings that appeared on the Internet with those markings. The LAPD leak is clearly documented and is the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation CF NO. 14-001995. Keep in mind that Daryn Dupree illegally accessed LAPD computers and cloned cell phones and was reprimanded by LAPD and Greg Kading was responsible for overturning the George TorresRamos case by what the judge said was his "reckless disregard for the truth." Tupac had begun to recover. When he died there was a rush to cremate him as somebody had whispered in Afeni’s ear that Tupac’s father might surface to contest her claim on the estate. So many of Tupac’s songs spoke of his being buried in a coffin but cremation would destroy any DNA for testing should Tupac’s father surface. It would also destroy an evidence of poison. Keep in mind that Harry-O took sick immediately after being given a 7-UP by David Kenner during his last friendly visit. Harry-O nearly died but Lydia Harris was convinced her husband had been poisoned.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

HALF A BILLION UP FOR GRABS PICKIN’ AT SUGE’S OLD SCABS

"’The deck is always stacked against Death Row,’ says the employee, who asked not to be identified, ‘so we always bring our own deck.’ And behind bars or not, Knight always deals the cards.”[317] It is clear in the aftermath of the Tupac and Suge Shooting on September 7, 1996 that Suge Knight no longer trusted Reggie Wright to handle his security. He uses his homeboys instead – a fact that Reggie Wright SNITCHES through Kevin Lewis to LAPD Senior Lead Ken Knox. Using convicted felons as security was a violation of Suge’s probation. Reggie Wright also SNITCHES Knox directly that Suge has been traveling out of the country – another probation violation. Reggie is trying desperately to get Suge’s probation revoked.[318] “I seeing the stuff for Belieze. Tickets and like he was setting shit up. At that time you could purchase citizenship secondary citizenship. I seeing stuff for buying property, setting up bank s.”[319] Knight doesn’t know who to trust. His head of security is blaming this all on Frank Alexander. Reggie has almost convinced Suge to kill Frank for not having his gun on him that night.[320] The hole is dug and the preparations are made. The conversations were heated. But things were not completely adding up. Reggie, the head of Death Row Security was taking absolutely no responsibility for what had happened. Certain things seemed out of order that night. “It was all Reggie’s fault. It wasn’t even something where you could debate it. Every decision came from Reggie’s mouth.”[321] It was Reggie that was adamant that Suge travel with 2Pac and he laid out the route. Both of those things were out of the ordinary and that was weighing on Suge Knight’s mind. Come to think of it Reggie was also adamant about having Tupac come up to Vegas. He was there encouraging Suge Knight to call Tupac and tell him that he would quash everything and pay him if he just came to Vegas to sort this all out… reluctantly,

Tupac agreed. Yeah, but Reggie Wright seemed a little too preoccupied with all of this. It would be a long time before Suge completely trusted Reggie Wright Jr. again. Certain things were being kept from Suge. When confronted Reggie would simply brush it off. From now on Suge would only travel with his homeboys. He already distrusted cops and many in the employment of Death Row Security were cops. Reggie was sure to tell Suge that Kevin Hackie was working undercover to infiltrate Death Row Records because of the incident at the hospital and Sharitha was also dating a cop… that made Suge even more paranoid. Now it was time to get back to basics – yes, back to only using his trusted childhood friends for security. Speculation about who would run Death Row Records was one thing but as a practical matter, with Suge still calling the shots behind bars he could assign that task to the person of his choosing. So far he hadn’t signed paperwork putting Reggie Wright Jr. in charge as Reggie Wright Sr. had speculated. There was only so much that could be gutted from the record label without Suge granting authority to the conspirators. “Meanwhile, Knight's absence has created a "complicated and hectic" atmosphere at Death Row's Beverly Hills headquarters, according to a longtime employee, but the current obstacles are not seen as insurmountable. To the contrary, the label's staff seems galvanized – hell, downright energized – by the predicament, once again tapping into a unique corporate culture that is equal parts blustery confidence and persecution complex.”[322] “We started having problems getting things done because she (Michel’le) wouldn’t take the information to Suge to get it done.”[323] “Suge began serving his nine-year sentence at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, where he was barred by law from running Death Row, saw half of the label’s staff get laid off, and watched creditors like American Express continue demanding payment. Immediately after his imprisonment, he noticed, the Death Row family disbanded. Where the label once promoted a united front, artists had scattered to the four winds.”[324] The fervor to keep Suge out of prison was only window dressing to stay close to Suge in order to take over Death Row after the sentencing. On November 25th,

Suge began to understand. He heard things on the inside that caused him to doubt Reggie. When Compton Police and evidence was used to revoke his probation, instead of to release him, he was now convinced not to trust Reggie and Kenner but did he really have a choice? Suge brought Milton Grimes on as lead counsel to represent him as his criminal attorney with David Kenner still as co-counsel. Kenner had health issues probably caused by the stress but there was now clearly distance there. “Attorney David Kenner underwent triple by heart surgery. ‘Some of Knight’s associates even go so far as to privately blame Kenner for giving Knight legal advice that they feel may have put the rap entrepreneur and his company in jeopardy,’ reporter Chuck Philips wrote.”[325] Michel’le was used as his new liaison with the record label and nothing was getting done. Kenner and Wright Jr. had sowed the seeds of chaos inside of Death Row Records that persisted until after the sentencing. “Suge didn’t want to put anyone in place to run the company while he was in prison, thinking he would still be able to run things from behind bars. It worked for a little while, but eventually he lost all power. He could no longer maintain control of his rappers while he was locked up. His over the phone threats scared no one. Everybody was trying to get all they could before leaving the label since it was sinking.”[326] What were Suge’s options? His estranged wife? David Kenner? Who could Suge trust? But was Suge Knight, himself, trustworthy? Suge’s Dilemma – who is he going to trust with the record label? Reggie Wright played on Suge’s hatred for Sean Combs. Suge had always blamed Combs for the murder of Jake Robles – Suge’s best friend. Getting back into Suge’s good graces may have been easily planned by taking the life of Comb’s top earner… Biggie Smalls. Suge Knight was in jail at the time and it would be difficult to prove that he had prior knowledge of this plot. There is a significant tell that Suge Knight had no prior knowledge of this hit and that stems from the numerous telephone calls that come in telling investigators that Suge Knight is responsible for the murder. In the aftermath of the El Rey murder the anonymous calls placed blame at the feet of DJ Quik that was not a Death Row Artist. In the aftermath of the Tupac murder the anonymous calls blamed

Orlando Anderson who had an airtight alibi. The calls that came in blaming Suge Knight for the murder were an attempt to inflame prosecutors to pile additional charges on to Suge Knight so Death Row’s assets could be plundered beyond the five years Suge would serve.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

THE GRAND GESTURE TO WIN THE VESTURE

Reggie says: “We ain’t going to be hurtin’ for nothin’”[327] Reggie fueled that fire by blaming Sean Combs for the attempted murder of Suge but things were not adding up. Reggie was caught in a number of lies. Suge was having doubts about the stories. He was hearing things. Reggie needed to regain Suge’s trust to seal what had been put in motion with the murder of Tupac and the attempted murder of Suge – with all of that planning at the beating of Orlando Anderson and maneuvering to get Suge violated and sentenced. It was all for nothing if Suge did not sign over power of attorney to Reggie. There needed to be a monumental act of loyalty to get Suge’s signature on the forms. The only way Reggie could prove his loyalty to Suge and get him to sign the paperwork putting Reggie at the helm of Death Row Records was for Reggie to avenge Sean Combs on behalf of Suge Knight. Biggie Smalls just happened to be in town. As Sean Combs biggest breadwinner it would satisfy Suge to know he had finally gotten not just even but a little further ahead. Reggie would play on Suge’s hatred of Sean Puffy Combs, who Suge held responsible for the murder of Jai “Jake” Robles. Reggie put young hot chicks inside Biggie’s camp to monitor the situation and relay information. The perfect opportunity would come at the after party for the VIBE awards. He sent off-duty LAPD cops the night before to assess the security and they plotted the hit. This time they would learn from the Tupac murder and use a professional shooter and armor piercing Geko ammunition. They watched Biggie’s every move while he was at the museum. As he headed for his car they knew the opportunity would soon be ripe for the perfect moment. Biggie’s SUV headed North on Fairfax and stopped at the red light. There were

five barricades just like in the Tupac shooting. A Chevy Impala SS pulled alongside making the sixth barricade. An arm appeared with a gun, shots were fired in a tight pattern that only hit Biggie – none of the other 5 engers were hit. In a few moments Biggie Smalls, Sean Puffy Combs biggest earner, was dead. Reggie now had what he needed to get Suge Knight to sign off allowing him to run Death Row Records. At the next visit, Reggie relayed the story of how it all went down. He urged Suge to take credit for it by saying he had coordinated it from his cell with a cellular telephone. They had all worked so hard to kill Biggie Smalls. But the controversy surrounding the Tupac Murder wouldn't be so easy to manipulate in Los Angeles. They could not control the autopsy or the immediate cremation. With the Feds closing in they had to know that Smalls was dead and not simply cooperating with investigators. Their own manipulation of the Tupac death facts made them paranoid. Was he really still alive and in protective custody? They had to be sure. Rafael Perez agreed to visit the morgue to see the body and confirm the kill. He used his normal protocol to get through security measures and was able to confirm that Biggie Smalls was indeed dead. Reggie was sure to relay to Suge that Rafael Perez had seen Biggie’s body. They were now certain Biggie Smalls was dead. Reggie then slid the paperwork in front of Suge after professing his undying loyalty. Suge Knight didn’t even hesitate. He signed the company away to Reggie. It would be years before Suge understood what had really happened. Big news Suge, you can take credit for the murder of Biggie Smalls… sign right here… Daz said, After Tupac was killed “everybody started doing their own thing, there was turmoil and chaos. I was like, fuck that, we got too much over here and too many songs. I was trying to figure out how I could get those songs that we did, so that’s when I became President of Death Row. Reggie Wright was running it and I was the creative force putting shit together.”[328] Reggie Wright Jr. was second in command at Death Row Records and ended up running record label after Suge was incarcerated by maneuvering himself into that position. The chaos at Death Row Records that began October 22nd when Suge is arrested and put in jail, ends when Wright is put in charge.

Daz said, “We fell out. I suckered them for the reels. I took all the reels and made all blanks - rewrote all the titles on there and gave them the reels and I took off with the masters. ‘Cause Reggie didn’t know nothin’ about putting the reels on there and listening to the tape.”[329] “Reggie is running the show over there.”[330] “Since Knight's incarceration, his now-estranged wife, Sharitha Knight, has been taking care of the day-to-day operations of Death Row Records.”[331] April 28, 2000 Death Row Records transfers 8200 Wilshire Blvd. property to Reggie Wright Jr.. The Mherson lawsuit confirms Kenner and Wright are working closely while Suge was away.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

SENSELESS ONE-EIGHT-SEVEN TO COMPLETE THE TWO-ELEVEN

“The Government hates rap. You know why I say that? ‘Cause they don’t arrest anybody that kills rappers. They don’t got no clues, no suspects, they don’t have shit when there’s a dead rapper. They don’t fill out a police report. They don’t even have a chalk line when there’s a dead rapper. Shit, if you want to get away with murder all you got to do is shoot somebody in the head and put a demo tape in their pocket.” – Chris Rock

“The similarities between 2Pac’s death and Biggie’s were uncanny. They were both shot down at a traffic light.”[332] Both had females distracting them when the shots rang out. Both cars were pinned in with six barricades. There is an experience modification from Tupac's murder to Biggie's murder. Gang kids used for Tupac's murder with regular ammo and a wide pattern of bullets. Biggie's murder used a professional assassin with armor piercing ammunition and a tight pattern with almost same drive by tactics. Both of them used shooters that could be walled off if they were caught. If the white Cadillac was stopped and the Patton's and Lil 1/2 Dead were caught the investigation would end with them. If Amir Muhammad was caught he would take the fall as the lone gunman. The other participants were walled off from the shooter. The motive behind the Biggie murder was the same as the motive behind Tupac: money. Take away Sean Puffy Combs biggest earner to get into Suge’s good graces so he would sign over the record label worth half-a-billion dollars. A minor motive is to galvanize the East Coast/West Coast feud to throw investigators off the trail of the actual murders in the Tupac Shakur murder. Therefore Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls is murdered on a Los Angeles street.

Means: Off duty LAPD cops Rafael Perez, Kevin Gaines, and David Mack working with professional hit man Amir Muhammed. Opportunity: Women infiltrated Biggie’s camp to tell them where he would be and to encourage him to attend the Petersen Museum. They created the perfect opportunity. Suge Knight relayed the entire story to Mario Hammonds who was a former reliable informant for the FBI but too many insiders close to Reggie leaked his name and derailed the investigation. Psycho Mike heard the story from Amir Muhammad. He was beaten and ultimately perished as a result of this. Kenneth Boagni heard the story from Rafael Perez. His testimony was good enough to clear many LAPD Police officers but was never taken seriously by investigators because this led to places too embarrassing for the department. Police files were hidden from the plaintiffs in the Wallace Civil trial by LAPD by Biggie Smalls Lead Investigator Detective Steven Katz. “Shortly after Wallace's murder, Plaintiff Voletta Wallace received an anonymous telephone call. The caller stated that a person identified as "D. Mack" was involved in Wallace's murder. Consequently, Plaintiff Voletta Wallace ed the LAPD and gave them the information she had received from the anonymous caller. She also requested that the LAPD investigate the tip. During the conversation, Plaintiff Voletta Wallace was informed that the telephone directory contained over 500 listings under "D. Mack." Plaintiffs allege that the LAPD did not "follow up on the clue" provided by Plaintiff Voletta Wallace. In fact, Plaintiff Voletta Wallace did not learn that there existed a LAPD officer named "D. Mack" until reading the June 7, 2001 article in Rolling Stone magazine.”[333] The LA City Attorney snuck files into Waymond Anderson to derail the second Wallace Civil Trial. But there is ample evidence that Suge was told about this during one of his visits by Reggie Wright Jr. Mario Hammonds tells us, “two of the names Knight had mentioned in connection to the murder were "Reg" — believed to be Death Row's thendirector of security, Reggie Wright Jr. — and an individual he referred to as Big

Sykes. Knight went on to name two other of the "team" that had taken B.I.G. out, according to Ha'mmonds: David Mack and Amir Muhammad. Knight told Ha'mmonds that all four had helped him arrange the murder by phone while he was incarcerated at the county jail in Los Angeles, and he gradually offered details about how the killing had been accomplished: Two women who had infiltrated the Bad Boy camp provided the information about when and where B.I.G. would be exposed, and his team had coordinated events on the night of the murder using cell phones. Knight never did tell him who exactly pulled the trigger, Ha'mmonds said. He did, however, ultimately reveal that his story about B.I.G.'s killing being payback for Tupac's murder was "a smokescreen," Ha'mmonds said, adding that shortly before Knight's transfer to Mule Creek State Prison, "He say, 'Later on, down the line, you'll see the big picture. It's about money.'" Knight also told Ha'mmonds he had no concern about being charged with B.I.G.'s death. "He told me this out of his own mouth, that because LAPD was involved, that this murder would never be solved, and that 'If anybody says anything against me, I can find out.'"[334] Ya May Cristle told about LAPD destroying evidence to cover-up the murder investigation into Christopher Wallace’s murder. Mario Hammonds, Kevin Hackie, Psycho Mike, Kenny Boagni are all discredited without specific evidence even though many of their testimony is considered credible in other investigations including clearing LAPD officers in board of rights hearings for wrongdoing. They all provide specific evidence of LAPD Police involvement in murder of Christopher Wallace organized by Reggie Wright Jr. First Civil trial in Estate of Christopher Wallace is declared a mistrial when evidence is suppressed by City of Los Angeles and LAPD specifically in wrongful death of Wallace. Evidence pointed to involvement of off duty police and Reggie Wright Jr. in the murder of Christopher Wallace. Second Civil trial in Estate of Christopher Wallace is dismissed with promise by City of Los Angeles and LAPD that they would redouble investigation. They tell the lead investigator to shut down the case 24 hours after the settlement. Since the release of “Tupac:187” two witnesses have come forward. One of them states that she saw and talked to Rafael Perez on the night before the murder of Christopher Wallace and the night of the murder. She was afraid to come

forward earlier because she was in fear of her life. We have also had a rapper tweet to us that he knows that Snoop had prior knowledge of the murder of Tupac Shakur before that murder happened. “There’s no way I could’ve known that Perez had visited the morgue to see the body, unless Ray told me.”[335] “He told them exactly how the killing took place and gave them several names. He told them of clandestine meetings with Death Row’s security team that Ray and Mack attended.”[336] Perry Sanders said, “Mr. Boagni, your name was absolutely nowhere on any of the LAPD’s records or interviews. You see, that trial was put on hold after I got a call saying someone named Kenney Boagni had key information which he’d already given to Detective Katz of the LAPD.”[337]

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

COINTELPRO YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW BIG BROTHER PUT THE PRODUCT ON THE STREETS MOVED SHIT ON LEAR JETS WITH ARTISTS SLANGING BEATS

Detective Russell Poole met with resistance inside of LAPD to fully investigate the murder of Christopher Wallace, and to fully investigate corruption of Officer Kevin Gaines by department leadership. There are photos of Michelle Parks found in the Rampart Cops personal effects. Michelle is also caught with cocaine in Las Vegas and that case evaporates. Russell, later, is pulled off of the cases and reassigned and eventually pushed out of the department. His reports on the incidents are gutted and much of the information disappears along with Frank Lygga's personnel package.

"Controversial Det. Frank Lyga said he once threatened to reveal to the media that his 1997 shooting of fellow cop Kevin Gaines was 'a sanction[ed] hit on Gaines by LAPD,' according to a memo purported to be written by an LAPD officer to Assistant Chief Earl Paysinger, documenting a talk Lyga gave at the L.A. Police Academy late last year. - LA Weekly

“The fact is, Knight doesn't really have to have direct involvement in the numerous ongoing killings relating to people at his label. The low-expectations that stem from the very name Death Row will spin most workers and associates into sort of a stupidity-auto-pilot that lasts for years. Attorney Arthur Barens was quoted by Associated Press as saying ‘They come to his house, they come to his office, they intimidated his wife, they intimidated his employees. What's the

point of this?’ The point is Barens, people are dying. Do any of you readers recall people loyal to the Temptations shooting it out with people close to Curtis Mayfield in the '60's? Does Suge Knight recall James Brown and Wilson Picket feuding over women and turf, ending with Brown ordering that Wilson be shot while Brown flails his arm shouting 'King Records, King Records?' No, and as funny as that sounds, it's just what's happening today. Where have you gone Berry Gordy, and other Black record company founders, now that we need you?”[338] It always comes down to the money. 400 million in Biggie’s lifetime earnings and $600 million for Tupac. For the City of Los Angeles this is a billion dollar problem. If a jury were to award punitive damages it becomes a 4 billion dollar problem. But Violetta Wallace said she wasn’t about the money. She just wanted justice for her son. Afeni Shakur can also be negotiated with to reach a settlement to pursue this case and bring Tupac’s murderers to justice. Additionally, if Suge Knight is right and the perpetrators of the crime took 80 million dollars of his money then they have ample money to mount a defense. Money alone should not deter law enforcement from doing the right thing. We need to make a statement that no matter how much money you have that you cannot get away with any murder – especially the worst kind – the premeditated murder. Executive Order 12,333 provides that any CIA Operatives are to be unmolested by any law enforcement agencies. Many investigations into drug trafficking in the 80’s and 90’s were compromised and subsequently dropped because of this executive order. David Kenner would know that from his hip in the Drug Club. No doubt this explains why any and all investigations of Death Row Records, David Kenner and Reggie Wright have never resulted in an arrest, indictment, trial, or conviction. There are 100 sources about the CIA putting drugs out on the streets of America to fund their covert operations. They were fighting Communism – they reasoned they were fighting for our freedom. When there was a conflict between somebody protected by the CIA and law enforcement, the CIA would trump local and federal jurisdiction. America is the country with the checkered past. We condoned slavery, killed off the Native Americans and stole their land, Watergate, the Kennedy

Assassination, Iran-Contra, and recently Iraq where there were no weapons of mass destruction. Americans can handle the truth. It is time to bring all of the murderers to justice and to clean out all of our police departments NATIONWIDE purging them from all of their corruption. They need to take an oath that they will pursue the truth even if it implicates of their own department or another law enforcement agency. Locally Jim McDonnell, so far has proved he is the right man for the job. Let’s get behind him cleaning up the residue from the Sheriff’s Department and then either get Charlie Beck on board or get his replacement in line to tackle this problem. What we can’t do is maintain the status quo. Russell and I would always talk about only wanting the truth wherever that leads. Please this fight with me and help me get Russell Poole’s message out there. Please this on to others who can put pressure on law enforcement to do the right thing.

EPILOGUE

As of the final edit of this book, December 22, 2015 the death of Russell Poole is now more mysterious than ever. Russell was going to meet with a homicide investigator to reopen the Tupac and Biggie cases. Sheriff's were stonewalling to even let that much information out when pressed about Poole's death and they have been stonewalling about other questions, including the autopsy being released. What they have disclosed is alarming. Poole was baited with coming alone to discuss Tupac and Biggie and when he arrived he was confronted with the investigators that are supposedly investigating the Suge Knight Shooting on August 24th 2014 and the Tams incident. Russell had learned that an off-duty Sheriff participated in aiding the shooters by letting them in the club and dropping them off at the airport. The day before his death he received a call from the homicide investigator that confirmed the truth of this. Russell suspected that both of these locations were chosen so that the shooters could receive cover from the Sheriff's. The Sheriff's would respond and bungle the 1Oak crime scene so that no prosecution could ever be made and they would charge only Knight at Tams. Russell was walking into the den of the lion to confront corruption and he likely met with those implicated by these two crimes and responsible for the cover-up. Isn't it odd that video captured both incidents and show that Suge Knight was attacked both times yet no charges have been filed on anyone but Knight? If Russell Poole was igniting a flame that would expose corruption at the LAPD, and LASD that might cost the City of Los Angeles four billion dollars in a civil suit, could it be that there was no shortage of people that would suffer embarrassment? Richard Biddle was likely in the room when Russell ed. He was handling two crime scenes that are related and Russell called this out as a huge conflict of interest. I only recently learned that the Captain of Homicide is Steven Katz. Does that name sound familiar? He is the same Steven Katz that was caught during the Wallace Civil Trial concealing evidence from the Wallace investigators. He was covering for the City of Los Angeles so they didn't have to pay out a huge settlement. Surely his career was over at the LAPD so he is moved over to the Sheriff's Department where he gets promoted and would certainly be in the loop knowing about Russell's meeting and having lots to lose.

At the beginning of the book R.J. writes an amazing Foreword. He states that we can take it from here implying we can get this in front of a jury. I am not so confident. I have learned a lot about how the system works. The jurisdiction issues alone will keep these cases out of the courtroom. When Dave Demerjian from the D.A.'s office expressed an interest in opening these cases it must have sent shivers down the spines of law enforcement in Los Angeles. LAPD has a solid interest in steering clear of these cases. The Sheriff's clearly don't want anything to do with them, Russell and R.J. struck out with LAPD, and when I reached out to LVMPD I talked to Detective Long who said he "would never interview a journalist even if he was a witness in a homicide." He only wanted to know how he could get his hands on the gun that was used to kill Tupac and it didn't seem like he wanted it to solve the case but rather to keep the case from being solved. There will be no justice for Tupac and Biggie unless the cost of not solving the cases is greater than the cost of solving them. We have all of the clues. We have living witnesses and there is no statue of limitations on murder. If Afeni Shakur and Voletta Wallace ed up and sued we might have a chance at justice. If two million Tupac fans made this an issue in every election campaign we might have a chance at justice. But short of either of these things happening law enforcement will do everything they can to stymie any investigation. I believe Russell Poole was murdered. Perhaps we should start there and let the investigation lead us to the truth. I believe he died on a quest to see justice done and he was robbed of precious life just like Tupac and Biggie. Will we ever get the answers? Russell said the best chance of solving the cases is with the information R.J. Bond, Russell, and I compiled. I think we have the answers. I think there are paid pundits that come out to obfuscate the truth every time something emerges that could bring the perpetrators to justice. that Death Row Records was worth five hundred million dollars. Even if this was nothing more than a smash and grab, the thieves got away with a hundred million. That is a big budget to keep the truth from ever fully coming out. But now this is personal because they took our friend's life!

Rest in Peace, Russell! Even if the authorities would not listen to you, everybody out there knows you solved the cases.

Re: LAPD Leak of Confession Letter in the Murder of Rapper Tupac Shakur IA: CF NO 14-001995

I wish the circumstances behind writing this letter were different. I was in the audience at the downtown Rotary meeting where you filled-in for Connie Rice,

while she was delayed and I became a big fan of the transformation inside of LAPD that you and Connie have led. I have often said that meeting was the single best Rotary meeting I ever attended – keep in mind that I was a Rotarian for a decade. I am writing to you today about the leak of the Confession Letter to the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur and attempted murder of Suge Knight, given to LAPD’s Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese, Commander Kevin McCarthy, Captain William Hayes and Detective Daryn Dupree on June 24th, 2014. The first leak occurred on July 7, 2014 by Daryn Dupree’s former partner, Greg Kading. The full letter appeared on August 18th, 2014 and six days later Suge Knight was shot in a West Hollywood nightclub by shooters that said as they shot, “you killed Tupac.” We have LAPD cold on the leak. RJ Bond placed a special border on the letter and when the leaked letter appeared it was with that special border. A year ago, Russell Poole and RJ Bond filed IA: CF NO 14-001995 – an Internal Affairs Complaint about the letter. I wrote to you on January 9th and June 28th and have not had a response. I would request that you officially respond to this email and certified letter to let me know the disposition of that investigation. Many in the community have warned me that my life is now in danger. Recently Reggie Wright Jr. threatened RJ Bond on a YouTube Interview. He said, “it’s not over with me and Mister Bond… If I can take out Biggie or Tupac he shouldn’t be no (sic) problem.” RJ Bond, Russell Poole, and I were not the source of the information that blames Reggie Wright for the killing of Tupac Shakur – LAPD was the clear source of this information when they leaked the Confession Letter and thereby derailed the investigation. Reggie Wright Jr. is listed by the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD as a suspect in the murder of Christopher Wallace in court documents I obtained in the Wallace Civil Trial and he is the suspect the Confession Letter says plotted the hit on Suge Knight and Tupac Shakur. He also happens to be a friend of Greg Kading who again is Daryn Dupree’s ex-partner. Reggie Wright Jr. is a former Compton Police Officer and son of former Compton Police Officer and LA County Sheriff, Reggie Wright Sr. Many people fear Reggie Wright Jr. because of his strong ties into law enforcement (he hired all the off-duty police for Death

Row Records). It gets even more convoluted as Cle “Bone” Sloan – the star witness in the current Suge Knight murder trial worked with Daryn Dupree on the movie “End of Watch.” Why was someone so connected to suspects, in charge of the Tupac and Biggie cases? Was this just an oversight? Or was it intentional? Kevin Hackie says he handed the Glock .40 that had been ballistics tested by the FBI to Reggie Wright Jr. and he further says that gun was subsequently used to kill rapper Tupac Shakur. Bodyguard Michael Moore was taken off of guarding Tupac Shakur the night of the shooting because he refused Reggie’s order to disarm. Reggie kept Moore close to him at the time of the shooting and Moore tells of hearing, “Got ‘em” come over Wright’s radio when Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight were shot. The letter s this evidence and tells that the triggerman, Lil ½ Dead (Donald Smith) had the motive of revenge as a reason to kill Tupac Shakur. On Lil ½ Dead’s 2012 album cover for “Dead Serious” you can see an image of the slain Tupac Shakur. Let’s give LAPD the benefit of the doubt. If the Confession Letter was inadvertently handed to a Detective not friendly with the suspect in the murder it would have received a proper investigation. All of those allegedly involved would have been pulled in for questioning and Chris Blatchford, who gave us the letter, would have been ed and interviewed about the origins of that letter. Valuable time and opportunities have been lost because of the LAPD leak. But there is still hope that LAPD will, in the end, do the right thing even though it leads to further entanglements. While pouring over the thousands of pages of case files, in writing the book, Tupac:187, we uncovered that Officer Kevin Gaines (boyfriend of Sharitha Knight who according to the author of the letter was also behind the murders) was on special assignment for LAPD in Las Vegas on the night that Tupac and Suge were shot. Frank Lyga has stated publicly that Kevin Gaines’ murder was a sanctioned “hit” by LAPD. Clearly there were several LAPD Officers in Las Vegas that night and uncovering LAPD involvement in the attempted murder of Suge Knight and murder of Tupac Shakur could prove embarrassing to the department but leaking the letter to avoid that embarrassment and covering up that leak will be far more damaging. We simply want the TRUTH wherever that leads!

You were not the Police Chief during the Rampart Scandal Era. Anything that was done then cannot be blamed on you. You have led a sweeping transformation at LAPD and I applaud those efforts. It is now time for total transparency in the leak of this Confession letter and it is time to re-examine all of the corrupt officers during the Rampart era to air their dirty laundry and if possible bring them to justice. If they participated in the murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace they should be held able. If they participated in the attempted murder of Suge Knight they should be held able. If there were sanctioned “hits” by LAPD officers everybody involved should be held able. Los Angeles is the most diverse community that has ever existed. Honor that diversity by solving these crimes and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Tupac and Biggie Fans constantly say that if the artists were white no stone would have been unturned to bring the killers to justice. It is hard to argue with those fans when it appears LAPD is stonewalling the investigation. You are aware that the first civil trial in the wrongful death suit of Christopher Wallace was ruled a mistrial when it was discovered that LAPD had withheld thousands of pages of documents that implicated off duty LAPD officers in the murder. You are aware the testimony of Ya May Cristle implicates LAPD in destroying thousands of documents that point to LAPD involvement in the murder of Christopher Wallace. You are also aware that the testimony of Waymond Anderson that derailed the second civil trial was coerced as documents were snuck in for him to review for the case and his testimony was coached. Are we to believe that LAPD had no involvement in rapper Tupac Shakur’s Murder? Please examine the clues we have uncovered since the publishing of the book and the clues that continue to pour in. Please help protect those, whose lives are now in danger because of the leak of the Confession Letter in the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Many people who were witnesses or sought the truth are now dead but the truth is seeping out and it cannot be stopped. Both Russell Poole and I are your partners in bringing the killers to justice. Russell has 19 years with the department and has a very good handle on what steps are necessary to get indictments and convictions. We have posted a snapshot of the relevant information (see Tupac Murder Facts).

I have been told that the information in the murder of Mickey Thompson was not near as compelling as this information and that led to a conviction that withstood an appeal. These cases can be solved and the perpetrators can be brought to justice. I look forward to seeing this through to a positive conclusion.

CHRIS BLATCHFORD STATEMENT

“May 1998, a Five-Deuce Hoover Crip that I know came to me saying he knew who killed Tupac Shakur. He told me that Sharitha Knight and Reggie Wright were behind the murder. “CI says at first there was a get together in Balboa Park in the San Fernando Valley for different gangs. This was disguised as a Blood/Crips truce meeting. But it was really a feeler for Wright to see how much it would take to get Tupac hit. Wright wanted rights to all Tupac's material. “He says it was Wright who – on the night of Tupac's murder – told the killers where Tupac would be, along with Suge. Those not in on the plan that night were sent to the 662 Club in Las Vegas. “There were 3 hitmen hired to do the job: Gregory Harris Smith aka "Lil Half Dead” (dob 11-28-79), Malcolm Shabbaz Patton (dob 1972), and Danny Eugene Patton aka "Whiteboy" (dob 1974). “The CI lived next door to Danny Patton in Reseda and did some construction work with him. CI says Danny Patton told him, "I shot that Tupac motherfucker. I was there man!" He had a tape recording of the conversation but I couldn't understand a word of it because of the bad quality of the tape. “In early June 1998, the CI told me that Malcolm Patton was "tired of hiding it" and believed he was about to get hit. So, he wanted to turn himself in and tell the whole story. I talked to Malcolm on the telephone and we set up a meeting. He said he would bring one of the murder weapons, and wanted to do an on camera interview to protect himself. “June 5, 1998 I showed up for the meeting and was given a hand-written letter (this was written by the CI's sister who transcribed what Malcolm told her). The letter claimed Lil Half Dead was upset with Tupac because

Tupac stole one of his songs, "Brenda's Got Baby." Lil Half Dead was beaten down by some Tupac soldiers while in Las Vegas. The letter also said, Wright had a meeting with gangsters and put a bounty on Tupac's head. Malcolm said he was the shooter that was supposed to take out Suge Knight. Lil Half Dead was supposed to kill Tupac. It quoted Malcolm as saying, "i can call you on a safe number and give you details of clothing, cars, streets, and describe anything you need to know to prove that I was there, and the night 2 pac tryed to escape, like a little pee-on bitch." The letter also said that Malcolm would drop off one of the murder weapons at KTTV studios. “Malcolm never showed for the Reseda meeting, but when I returned to the station, security told me a young black man had tried to drop off a package for me at the guard shack. Company policy prohibited them from accepting it. I never heard from Malcolm again. “The CI also told me that Danny was paid 100-thousand dollars for the hit in the form of a cashier's check. Danny signed the check. The CI said the hit team trio had rented a pearl white Cadillac at the Stratosphere Hotel Las Vegas and later dumped it at a salvage yard in Baker, disassembled. Three guns were used: tech 9, .45, and a Glock. Danny's gun jammed. Malcolm shot twice and missed his target. He also said "Neckbone" would be killed later because he knew the identity of the shooters. Neckbone was, in fact, killed at a later date. “CI said that Danny Patton's mother, who worked as a drug counselor in the Valley, was "scared to go against him." Malcolm, at the time, was recently released from prison. “A year or so later, CI told me Danny Patton wanted to meet with me. Subsequently, he and the CI did come to the station and talked with me for about a half-hour. The Tupac murder was never mentioned. CI later told me that Danny just wanted to feel me out. Lil Half Dead is already doing life for another murder.”
