PROJECTS ACCOMPLISHED M. TECH (CHEMICAL ENGINEERING) Title: Esterification reaction Description: The reaction kinetics and the chemical equilibrium of the consecutive, reversible liquid-phase esterification of ethylene glycol with acetic acid to ethylene glycol monoacetate (monoester) and ethylene glycol diacetate (diester) without using any catalyst was studied. Kinetics experiments were conducted for various temperatures (353 – 383 K) and starting compositions of the reactants (mole ratio 1 – 3). The rate constant for the reaction at various temperatures was calculated from the experimental data and activation energy of the reactions was estimated using the Arrhenius expression. The results revealed that ethylene glycol conversion and product formation increased with increasing the reaction temperature. B. TECH (CHEMICAL ENGINEERING) Title: Design of Multicomponent Distillation Column Description: Several short cut and rigorous method has been discussed in this project to determine the number of theoretical stages in multi-component distillation column. The short cut methods have their own importance in the calculation of number of equilibrium stages. Method such as Hengstebeck’s Gilliland’s method, Erbran Medox method Fenske’s method and Smoker’s method to multicomponent system are the popular short cut methods. In addition to above short cut methods a rigorous method such as the Lewis Matheson method has been tried in the calculation of number of equilibrium stages. The comparison between short cut & rigorous methods are based on, feed point location, material and energy balance along with efficiency calculation has been formulated in this project. DIPLOMA IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING Title: Design of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger Description: In this work I studied the all types of heat exchanger such as shell and tube heat exchanger, plate type heat exchanger, u-tube heat exchanger, graphite heat exchanger etc. also discussed about the detail design of shell and heat exchange.
