DBA-120 Course Syllabus (Database Programming I) Course Description This course is designed to develop SQL programming proficiency. Emphasis is placed on data definition, data manipulation, and data control statements as well as on report generation. Upon completion, students should be able to write programs which create, update, and produce reports.

Credit Hours: Three (3) Semester Hours  

Pre-requisites: None Co-requisites: None

Course Goals:     

Understand basic knowledge of the Oracle database programming language. Learn to create database and database objects such tables, views, indexes, etc. Master standard SQL skills to do queries, insert, delete and update. Use Oracle client tools such SQL*Plus or SQL Developer. Prepare for the Oracle SQL certification exam (1Z0-007, 1Z0-047, or 1Z0-051).

Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, students will be able to demonstrate (through completion of class work and assignments):

     

A basic understanding of standard SQL. The basic knowledge of RDBMS creation The basic skills needed to create and query databases in Oralce environment The basic skills of data manipulation using INSERT, DELETE, and UPDATE. A basic understanding of various database objects (INDEX, VIEWS, TABLES, SEQUENCES, etc.) A basic understanding of privileges and roles.

Oracle 11g (able from http://www.oracle.com)

Students are responsible for all of the information presented in the Wake Technical Community College Student Handbook. Please note that computers are to be used at all times for official course purposes. Use of computers for general web surfing, email, chat rooms, social networking etc. is not allowed. Violation of this rule will result in a grade deduction and possible loss of computer privileges. The college forbids the use of audible electronic equipment (cell phones, mobile devices etc.) during instructional time. If you miss a lecture or arrive late, you are responsible for the material presented, handouts distributed, and any announcements made that day. The instructor will not provide notes for missed classes. This course is being taught in an online or hybrid format. In order to remain enrolled in the course, each student is required to open and complete the Course Entry Quiz in Blackboard.. Students should complete the activity as soon as possible. Delay in completion may result in getting behind in coursework or in missing assignments. Students who do not complete the Course Entry Quiz by the deadline will be dropped from the course with no tuition refund.
