To ensure that minimum torque is attained, a field target torque (optimum torque) 15% over minimum is recommended. An appropriate safety factor should be applied to these yield torque values.

Hydril 523™ Performance Data
Combining the Benefits of a Metal Seal with the Superior Compression and Torque Capabilities of the Wedge Thread™
Versatility for multiple applications, Hydril 523 provides excellent sealing and structural performance. Its many uses include production casing, intermediate strings, tiebacks and drilling and production liners.
PIN
Field proven structural capability is provided with high tension and bending strengths. Triaxial performance is achieved by machining the box on formed ends, creating thickness in the tension critical areas that exceed the pipe body thickness. Forming done to the pipe in Hydril’s plant prior to stress relieving and machining increases both tension strength and combined load performance. Performance ratings for API pipe body dimension variations.
Exceptional torque strength permits rotating into place and rotating during cementing in deviated holes without fear of structural failure. Torque strength is developed through simultaneous engagement of the opposing flanks of the dovetail thread. ID restrictions created by overtorque are eliminated. Its capability of rotation-while-bending is unsured for non-upset connections. High compression rating provided by the reverse angle stab flank of the dovetail threads makes the Hydril 523 suitable for the more severe compression and pressure applications. Compression strength exceeds tension.
100% internal pressure rated metal-to-metal seal maintains gas-sealing capability under high axial and bending loads. The shallow angle chamfer on the bored ID of the pin promotes uniform stress under the seal around the full circumference of the connection.
100% pipe body collapse strength is created with the lubricant seal of the dovetail threads.
Integral design eliminates concerns associated with coupled connections for mill-end leaks, damage during buck-on, and coupling material sourcing and traceability.
Stabbing resistance of the pin end face is maintained with the swaged, stress relieved, and bored ID. Pins are end drifted after manufacture at the pipe body drift diameter.
Streamlined OD in the running and circulating direction virtually eliminates downhole hang-up. There is no coupling face to interfere with smooth running in slim and deviated holes.
Pin ID bevel eliminates downhole tool hang-ups and promotes tool age through the connection. Patented Seal Saver protects the pin seal from handling damage and acts as a stiffener to improve metal seal functioning.
