The garden was started in May 2004 by the Grade 2 class at Mulberry School and Carone Beaucage as a cleanup project. The original area was a vacant lot that had been “sprinkled with broken glass and trash. Graffiti covered the nearby warehouse…” Carone had moved into a house across the street and had said that she did not want her children to have to view such an unsightly “mess”. The community (teachers, students and parents) was invited to help out – creating ornamental, fruit and vegetable garden plots with trucked in soil. Kingston businesses also donated soil, lumber and plants during this early period. Ultimately, the group “FRILL” (Friends Revitalizing Industrial Land Lovingly) was born of this cohesive project and included families of the students at the school, people in the neighbourhood and Kingston citizens. 613 548 1500, 613 548 1847 (fax) 613 542 2949 x. 154, 613-542-5486 (fax) 613 548-4417 Clinical Dietician x. 1176, 613 Ongwanada 548-8135 (fax)

Farmers Market @ Queen’s
What started off as a small stone building with 4 butchers and several produce stalls has now evolved into a bustling street of approximately 51 merchants. Since it first opened almost 174 years ago this quaint market, with its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, has played an integral role in the development of Brockville’s rich cultural history. The Farmer’s Market @ Queen’s is organized by a volunteer committee comprised of interested and enthusiastic students, alumni, staff, and associates of Queen’s University. The committee is responsible for establishing the market regulations, operating the market, ing vendors, collecting vendor fees and promoting the growth of the market and its vision of a local and sustainable food system.

Centrally located in the heart of Eastern Ontario, Frontenac is steeped in http:// history. Originally proclaimed on July 16, 1792 as part of the newlywww.frontenaccou created Midland District, Frontenac was ed by neighbouring Lennox nty.ca/ and Addington counties, as one of the original nineteen counties in Upper Canada. The union was formally dissolved on January 1, 1865. The evolution of its municipal history continues. On January 1, 1998, the eighteen former townships were restructured to form four – the Townships of North, Central and South Frontenac and the Frontenac Islands, represented by their respective mayors on a four-member council.

St. Vincent de Paul Society was incorporated in 1874. It is was originally http://svdp. operated by a lone priest at St. Mary's Cathedral. By 1982, the Society 20m.com/ was able to offer hot meals through the Loretta Hospitality Centre. By 1999, the Society was able to offer a safe welcoming space in addition to hot meals. The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides services to anyone in need in the Kingston area. They have created a wonderful community down on Stephen Street where respect and caring for each other and the space are clearly evident. There is an Advisory Committee made up of interested participants allowing them a voice in the running of our organization. They celebrate occasions and have theme days.
