Long Span Roof Structure

1. Introduction

The Architect and the client wants the Atrium to capture light in the day to utilize light within office area. Thus creating a building for sustainability and maintenance with the use of natural lighting. The Atrium is at the centre of the building and is an open floor to ground floor. It is 24m in length and 9m wide. Each floor to floor is 3m apart consisting of 9 floor plus roof so a consideration in design must be taken for sunshine to illuminate as much floor in the building as possible.

2. Cable truss system

In building a truss design encomes a tube like outer steel structure with an inner ing structure. This typical ing structure with its light weight s heavy loads due to its triangulation in design. Due to the fact that the system is a continuous structural system there may be problems in transporting such a system. It may be done in sections and welded on site for the complete structural element.

The forces applied to the top of the truss can be transferred into two internal bracing transferring the load at the same time to meet at one point thus reducing or eliminating forces. Therefore each number is acting as a point of transfer for forces.

There are reward types of truss and beams that transfer forces in the same manner but have different configurations. These are parallel beams, pitched truss and curved beams. Thus light weight roofing structures are aesthetically pleasing to architects and are economically sustainable see appendix 1.

Long Span Roof Structure Technological advances in this system has brought it from solid strength in structure of material to structural strength in tension by using a hydraulic jack the cable is pulled to its required tension to the roof finish.

Lightweight stainless steel cable trusses skylight system uses a cladding strategy for example insulated point ed glass with stainless steel fittings. The finish is tied directly into the compression of the cable trusses. This system is effective because of its numbers being thin and almost invisible to the eye. The stainless steel finish also appeals to a modern era. There are several designs for using this system but typically the methods are used straight tension cables or cross tension cables, there are both very effective see appendixes 2.

A jockey system is used to require the tension needed for this system. The system is flexible in that it could be used as an extension or an interior system thus creating an external façade system. It aesthetic and design requirements with its system and high quality finishes are set out to be one of the best systems to provide the client and the architect with a desired system see appendixes 2.

3. Space Frames

It concretes of hollow section beams or three dimensional lattice beam which spans in the directions. The hollow section allows rigidity in the system which can create longer spans with thin . The covering of the space frame after attachment give this system further strength by combining all grids on end. Steel tubular invented pyramid unit frame are three dimensional lattice beams that spans in two directions.

Long Span Roof Structure This inverted pyramid structure is made from a steel angle channel bolted together through web section of this steel angle. The four tubular steel sections that create the pyramid is welded to the corners of the sequence consisted connected with a box unit at the bottom. Steel nodes are used to connect the box unit to the other individual units in the roof in lateral directions. In connection the number may be numerically sealed eliminating interior corrosion. The system can be used inside or outside and for outside considerations the system could be coated with organic zinc topped with an acrylic—urethane colour see appendixes 3.

3.1Hemmperical Node System

It is hemmperical bolted connection that s a system of any module or geometry. This system requires purlins for deck that can span a maximum of 90feet. See Appendix 3.for other examples of this framing system see appendixes 3.

Conclusion

In final conclusion the systems that I have provided are both adequate systems but in consideration that the client wants to utilise the sunlight in an open office area and the architect wants an attractive means of accomplishing this. A system that carries a thin structure frame attractive and let in as much natural sunlight as possible is the cable truss framing system. It’s fine structured system still in may ways can be attractive with its chrome finish and curved damp or straight cable length being almost invisible to the eye from a distance.
