It is formed: AFFIRMATIVE: S+ VERB+ -ED e.g.: I worked NEGATIVE: S+ DID+ NOT+ VERB e.g.: I DID NOT WORK (she explains them that in the negative form the verb does not take the –ed termination) INTERROGATIVE: DID+ S+VERB” e.g.: Did I work?” She explains and writes on the blackboard the main uses of Past Tense Simple: “The Past Tense Simple is used: 1. to talk about a past action- we know the precise time: last week, last month, in 1990 etc. e.g.: I visited her last week.

To talk about an action that was common in the past, but now it is not e.g.: I cooked every evening- I do not do this anymore” SPELLING RULES: - The final consonant of the verb is doubled when the preceding vowel is short and stressed: stop- stopped, travel- travelled; - The final-y disappears when it is preceded by a consonant, and the verb takes –ied termination; e.g.: study- studied - The verbs finished in –e only take – d termination e.g.: move-moved *15 minutes
