REACTION PAPER ON THE MOVIE “COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO”
The movie is good. As of my rating, my rate is 8 out of 10. It was a bit harsh but with gentle part along with it. It was harsh because of a man who is accused by a fault that he didn’t commit. Just because he can’t read, they took the opportunity to it to him. He was beaten several times when he was brought to jail. The pain he endure while in prison is somewhat I can relate to present times. The people who get imprisoned to the fault they didn’t commit. And as on how to relate this to Rizal, during his time, his case was prejudged, he was considered guilty before the actual trial. He accepted all the charges and testimonials towards him and ignored all the proofs and evidence in his favour. Because of Dantes didn’t got a privilege in studying, he is eager to learn when the Priest he met at the prison of chateau d’If made him a deal to trade the knowledge from he learned if Dantes would help him dig the tunnel to escape. Dantes learned much about in mathematics, literature, philosophy, economics and sword combat. Quite opposite to our Rizal for he was indeed smart during his time. Has a title of a doctor with a vast knowledge in the field of arts and sciences. Much eager to learn more, and maybe Rizal is rich during those time, he went abroad to study and pursue his goals. In his stay on Europe that he read lots of book including Alexander Duma’s book “The count of Monte Cristo” which serves as one of his basis to write his novel about our situation to our country against the Spaniards misrule.
An article that I read saying when Rizal was young he was taught by his mother to be a religious person as he was baptized a Roman Catholic. What I think that maybe because of being a God fearing person, he cannot endure the pain anymore on what his fellow countrymen had suffer in the hands of the Spaniards that he made a revolt. Same goes for Dantes, for his trust in God’s goodness that life are fair and justice until he loses his faith to God and blaming him for his suffering for six years in confinement at prison. Despite of the complete opposite of financial status between Rizal and Dantes they share the same goal and hopes that someday change will come its way and have there dreams come true, freedom and for the bad side, revenge, make them pay for the suffering they have caused to them. Each society they were in, only with fortune and prestige gets to be respected. For people who have power and money can over ran those ordinary people. There is no equality of treatment. My overall reaction of the movie and with relation to our national Hero that life isn’t always fair. I must say that I learned that I must accept that every circumstances that was happening, misfortune or being lucky, it just about how to deal with every problems that we encounter. For Rizal to use his brain, write a book to spread and let others know how we suffered from the tyranny for the Spaniards and for Dantes took his revenge on the people who hurt him. By reality Dantes, although he is right for taking his revenge, still it is wrong to put the law in its hands, that is why even though he almost fulfilled all his revenge, he is still doesn’t feel fully satisfied. Also with Rizal, he was killed without seeing the fruit of his hard work to free us from the state on where we suffered. Overall, they are almost related to each other because it speaks about betrayal, injustice, conspiracy, and revenge. Though the revenge that Rizal seeks is to realize the Spanish governments mistake on how they ruled our country. Both of them was charge in committing treason, Dantes was charge and accused because of it and Rizal was charge not
only treason but also sedition and illegal association. Both of them also were not given chance to further defend themselves in the court because they were condemned already before the trial begun and plotted or scripted the evidence to make the accusations against them were concrete and strong. It is to show that even on us, not all times that we have to endure the suffering that we are having, sometimes we have to fight also.
