Rotary is an organization of professional and business leaders, united worldwide, which provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. In our community, we are proud of our accomplishments over the years serving the needs of physically challenged children and many other youth projects. We will continue to look to ways of assisting people here and around the world to help them create a better life for themselves, their families, and their communities. The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie thanks you for your continued of its many projects.
The Easter Seals Connection Since 1923, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has adopted Easter Seals and the over 40 children, youth and young adults in the area with physical disabilities as the club’s primary charitable mandate. The Club is in partnership with Easter Seals to present three of the Society’s signature events in the Sault. Recipient of the 2015 Easter Seals Yvonne Alexander Award, their highest honour!
The Annual Easter Seals Telethon Favourite personalities showcase how Easter Seals helps local and area children with disabilities better cope with their daily lives. The society purchases equipment needed for mobility and communication, assists in sending kids to specialized summer camps, provides travel grants for out of town medical appointments and provides information and resources for their families.
Snowarama Originally called the “Whipper Watson Snowarama for Timmy,” the first run was held in 1975. Successful from the first year, the Sault Ste. Marie ride has earned the distinction of being the top fundraising Snowarama in the province several times.
Change For Change (formerly Penny Power) Every winter the public assists schools in the district to donate coins on behalf of Easter Seals children. Over $17,000 was raised in 2015!

Fight Against Polio Overall, remarkable progress has been achieved in the fight against polio. Since 1988, the number of polio cases has been reduced from 350,000 a year to fewer than 700 cases in 2011. The Americas were declared free from polio in 1994, the Western Pacific region in 2000, and Europe in 2002. A highly infectious disease, polio still strikes children mainly under the age of five in parts of Africa and South Asia. Polio can cause paralysis and sometimes death. There is no cure for polio, but for as little as 60 cents worth of oral vaccine, a child can be protected from the disease for life. Rotary, a humanitarian service organization with nearly 34,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas, made polio eradication its top priority in 1985. Rotary has since contributed US $1.2 billion, and its have logged countless volunteer hours to help immunize more than two billion children in 122 countries.
