DC Twin Rotary Compressor : Toshiba has continuously improved its compressor technology, arriving at a solution called DC Twin Rotary Compressor. It is a double cam rotary compressor which has several features which increases its performance and reliability. The opposed double blade design yields mechanical stability and less vibration that could cause stress on other components. In fact being able to reduce the rpm without causing instability enables improved temperature control when less capacity is required. An added benefit offered by the DC Twin rotary compressors, and with refrigerant R410a, is that it is more efficient than scroll compresors.

As the compressors are all inverter driven, power surges are eliminated. Over or under-utilisation of power, typical for non-inverter compressors is eliminated, and there is no on/off power surge as the system adjusts to the demand required by the occupant or system. The use of inverter compressors reduces the risk of compressor failure, more common in standard non-inverter systems.

DC twin-rotary compressor advantage Each SMMS-i uses twin-rotary inverter compressors that feature more stable energy efficiency through their full range of compressor rotation than do scroll type compressors. Scroll compressors can achieve high- efficiency operation, but only within in a narrow range. As VRF systems require a wide range of capacity, the twin-rotary compressor is best suited for use. Run Time Equalization for compressors : The SMMS-i system’s operation combines a highly efficient running speed and highly efficient compressors. The operating time of the compressors is equalized. New intelligent VRF control Differing pipe lengths result in inconsistent performance levels when several indoor units are connected to a system. This imbalance is caused by pressure loss and thermal leaks that inhibit the supply of the right amount of refrigerant to each indoor unit.
Undersupplied Without intelligent VRF control
Total system control and consistent room-to-room temperature Intelligent VRF control provides precise control over each indoor unit. For example, the upper floor indoor units of VRF systems without intelligent of refrigerant, causing a delay before indoor units on lower floors would reach efficient operating levels. Toshiba’s SMMS-i monitors the flow of refrigerant to each indoor unit, while also tracking the model of the indoor unit, the pipe length between it and the outdoor unit, as well as data on operating conditions. The system computers the amount of refrigerant required by each indoor unit and controls the unit’s pulse motor valve to ensure optiomal supply across the system. Advanced “I/F” Technology : Microprocessor has been improved by replacing conventional single MCU with dual MCU system consisting of a main and a sub MCU, which significantly enhanced the capacity of the interface PC board (I/F). The dual MCU system enables high-speed operation by parallel processing and fast handling of a wide variety of capacity requirements from each indoor unit.
High speed data transmission - Operated control data in I/F is transmitted to four IPDUs at high speed so that excellent load following capability with finer capacity control is provided in no time. Ultra Precise “IPDU” technology - The intelligent power The intelligent power drive unit (IPDU) receives instructions from I/F and executes appropriate and precise control over all compressors and fans. RISC (a reduced instruction set computer which adopts simplified instructions to provide high-speed performance, for short, RISC) type 32bit U processor is introduced which enables amazing ultra precise drive control of 0.1 Hz per one step and realize stable temperature environment.

Optimal refrigerant control – When a multiple number of indoor units are connected, an insuficient or excess amount of refrigerant may be supplied to indoor units depending on the difference in length of the connection pipe from the outdoor unit. – This is caused by pressure loss and heat leaks as the refrigerant travels through the pipes, resulting in incorrect amounts of refrigerant being supplied to the indoor units. – Optimal refrigerant flow control featuring intelligent control over the refrigerant sensors and opening rate of individual pulse motor valves realizes stable indoor temperatures throughout a building with height differences of up to 40m between indoor units.

Designed for simple & easy installation and maintenance
This compact unit (575 × 575 mm) fits perfectly into ceilings and matches standard architectural modules, without the need to cut ceiling tiles.
The slim design is only 268 mm in height even when an electrical box is located inside the unit. Easy installation is also possible using the adjust pocket. Use the “adjust pocket” function for fine adjustments after installation.
The flaps fold tightly against the ceiling when operation stops so that the ceiling is affected only slightly even if air conditioning is installed.

The DX coil must be suitable for R410A. The design should allow operation as both an Evaporator and a Condenser (Features: Multiple circuits/Liquid Capillary Distributor / Gas Header) The counter flow principle must be observed. Design target Evaporation temperature : 6.5C Design target Condensation temperature: 52C A Drain Pan must be fitted (even if only used in Heat mode) due to defrost cycles. It is recommended to fit droplet eliminator plates in the discharge air stream if used in Cool mode.

Air to Air Heat Exchanger • 9 models available with air flow ranges from 110 to 2000 m3/h. • Air conditioners and heat exchangers are controlled with same main bus. (Fig.1) • Automatic changeover to efficient operation mode: Units automatically switches to the heat exchange mode and normal ventilation based on operating conditions.(Fig. 2) • Free cooling -Provides fresh outdoor cool air to reduce the indoor air temperature,when the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor air conditioned temperature. • Air balance volume rate can be varied to suit the usage environment and location . Air to Air Heat Exchanger with DX-coil & Humidifier Greater comfort and reduced load Functionality built into the cooling system reduces load on cooling beyond that of the heat exchanger itself. This improves air quality and ensures maximum comfort throughout room being cooled. Free cooling at night When the air outdoors is cooler at night, the system expels warm air from the room. This reduces the air conditioning load the next day for improved energy efficiency. Flexible control Supply and exhaust fan speed ratios can be changed for improved air volume control that best matches the needs of the environment and location. *Limitations The total capacity of indoor units combined should be within 80 - 135% of the capacity of the outdoor unit. The capacity of the air to air heat exchanger should be no more than 30% of the capacity of the outdoor unit.

Fresh Air Intake Indoor Unit Type Air controller for fresh-air intake
Outside static pressure maximum 230Pa (In case of 50Hz of 5Hp). Use of high-performance filter provides more comfortable room enviroment.Introduces outdoor air at atemperature close to that of the indoor air. Primary processing of fresh outdoor air. Fresh Air-intake often influences the system, rendering normal control of the air conditioner difficult or placing large loads on the system and its cooling performance. Therefore it is frequently adopted to handle the fresh air to a certain condition before the fresh air will enter in the main air conditioner. This device is known as a fresh air intake indoor unit.

Set the outdoor unit first connected to the bridging pipe to the indoor units as the header unit. Install the outdoor units in order of their capacity codes: A (header unit) ≥ B ≥ C ≥ D When connecting gas pipes to indoor units, use Y-shaped branching ts to keep pipes level. When piping to outdoor units using Outdoor unit connection piping kits, intersect the pipes to the outdoor unit and those to indoor units at a right angle as shown in figure 1 on “INSTALLATION MANUAL (6. INSTALLATION OF THE OUTDOOR UNIT)”. Do not connect them as in figure 2 on “INSTALLATION MANUAL (6. INSTALLATION OF THE OUTDOOR UNIT)”.

The maximum equivalent length of main pipe should be 70m or shorter. SMMS-i Selection Tools Everything at the click of a button
Sophisticated system design software has been developed for the whole SMMS-i range and is a useful and irreplaceable tool for engineers, architects, installers and, in general, for anyone who wants to apply innovative Toshiba solutions. With this software, the can create a complete VRF system by simply clicking on the icons for the indoor units and the other connection components. It is also possible to define, in advance, relevant parameters such as outside and inside temperatures fan speed pipe system length and routing etc. The software automatically manages all the parameters entered, and the actual system capacity for the conditions required can be quickly calculated and simulated during the design stage. The software constantly monitors possible design errors and warns the , when it reaches the system limits. Features
