Webvertising: breaking new grounds Herb Broadway is KCI Publishing's e-marketing coordinator and, as such, is responsible for the wide range of electronic advertising possibilities Pump Engineer offers. Together with clients, he finds the webvertising opportunities that best fit their communication needs. Mr. Broadway: “I like it best when a company s me and says they have a certain budget available and what can they do with it. Together, we can then compile a tailor-made package that caters to their specific needs. Companies are often surprised when they see our wide range of webvertising options but the younger “webwise” generation in particular fully acknowledges the potential of this relatively new form of advertising.” Pump Engineer's range of electronic advertising opportunities includes web boxes, logo banners, hyperlinks and a highlights section on the Pump Engineer home page but Broadway is particularly excited about the Cyber Guide, which can be found on the Pump Engineer website, www.pumpengineer.net: “The Cyber Guide is a new and easy to use online database of pumps and related products. With the help of this product locator, s can select by product category, region or country and the Cyber Guide will generate links to companies that meet their criteria, and provide details for these companies. It is an extremely useful tool to bring together supply and demand.” Companies that are interested in having their product details added to the Cyber Guide or in other webvertising possibilities can Herb Broadway at +31 575 585 278,

Pump s International Forum & Technical Exhibition in 2008 ump Engineer and the Pumps and Systems Association of VDMA are pleased to announce that they have ed forces to further develop the Pump s International Forum into an eminently respectable international platform. The VDMA Pumps + Systems Association as the promoter of this forum will be responsible for the overall content and organisation. Pump Engineer will act as the official international media partner for the 9th Pump s International Forum, which is scheduled in end of September/beginning of October 2008 (exact dates and venue to be announced later). Since its inception in 1973 the Pump s International Forum has grown into a well-established and internationally recognized two-day conference and technical exhibition attracting typically 750 visitors and 65 exhibitors. The purpose of ing forces is to combine VDMA's international network within the pump industry together with Pump Engineer's comprehensive international network within the manufacturing and industries with the clear goal to attract even more delegates and visitors from the international pump community. Because of this cooperation and in order to avoid conflicting interests, the planned Pump Engineer Conference & Expo has been cancelled and will be integrated into the Pump s International Forum 2008. Writing for Pump Engineer magazine ou too can earn recognition by writing for Pump Engineer magazine. You certainly don't have to be a professional writer to have an article published. You need only present some information, based on experience or know-how, that will be of value to our readers. David Sear, editor for Pump Engineer magazine, explains how to prepare and submit your material for consideration by the editors. “Our readership is interested in technical solutions to problems, industry trends, strategies and regulatory compliances. Preference is therefore given to papers written or co-written by operating companies describing commercially viable new technologies and/or case histories of applications which have been successful, backed by data. Sales pitches promoting certain products or services will not be accepted.”

Halifax Harbour restoration By 2010, three sewage treatment plants, made almost entirely of stainless steel, will help to restore Halifax harbour in Nova Scotia, Canada to its original purity. The USD 333 million Halifax Harbour Solutions Project will improve water quality dramatically while transforming a murky, foul-smelling waterway into what James Campbell, spokesperson for the project, calls “the jewel of the city.” At the heart of the project are three treatment plants being built by Degrémont Halifax, a division of Paris-based global water treatment giant

Degrémont Suez. The material of choice for a great many of the pipes, pumps, screens, conveyors and other components of the treatment plants is nickelcontaining stainless steel. Practically all the stainless used in the plants will be S304, except for the last stages of the treatment process, when more corrosion-resistant S316 is needed. Degrémont is building the treatment plants in partnership with Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. Dexter also has the USD 112 million contract to lay 20,000m of new sewer pipe to feed the plants. The

Powerful promotion
In this section, we usually publish atypical pump-related photos or photos of Pump Engineer magazine spotted in unusual locations. However, this time, we wanted to share with you a snapshot taken by one of our editors one autumn evening as we were all about to head home after a busy day. It shows the town of Zutphen, The Netherlands, where our main office is based, at sunset, as seen from the editorial office. With views like these, isn't it a miracle that we get any work done at all?
Pump Engineer is a multi-channel resource aimed at the needs of pump s worldwide. Essential information about pumps and pump applications is brought to the market through a magazine, a website, face-to-face events and research and intelligence activities. All of these four channels have one thing in common: They focus on the ends of pumping equipment. That is why taking a cover story in Pump Engineer is an excellent way for suppliers of pumps and related equipment to communicate with these end-s. The cover story concept is a unique mix of an editorial feature and an advertising campaign with enormous selling power, consisting of the following elements: • a four-page, full-color, article, written in our style by one of the editors of Pump Engineer magazine, approved by your company • a magazine cover with a photo of your company and the title of the cover story, containing your company name
• an ment campaign in consecutive issues of Pump Engineer magazine, consisting of at least six full-page, full-color ments, one of these in the issue containing your cover story • up to 500 copies of the issue featuring your cover story for your own distribution among clients, prospects, at trade shows etc. All copies will be sent to one European address free of charge. Extra copies or other addresses can be arranged at a surcharge. • your cover story and the magazine cover in the cover story gallery of the Pump Engineer website for one year • a pdf version for use on your company website Cover stories are often reserved long before the publication date of the magazine so make your reservation today!
