Nail body—the visible portion of the nail which rests upon & is attached to the nail bed. --it extends from the root to the free edge Nail root— the base of the nail & is embedded underneath the skin. It originates from an actively growing tissue known as MATRIX. Free-edge—the portion of the nail that reaches over the finger tips Matrix > A part of the nail bed that extends beneath the nail root and contains nerves, lymph and blood vessels. > Produce the nail as it tells to reproduce and harden.

Safety rules 1. Keep all containers covered and labeled. 2. Use dry hand to hold in more containers. 3. Handle sharp pointed implements and avoid dropping them. 4. Dull over sharpened cutting edge of sharp implements with an emery board. 5. Bevel a sharp nail edge with an emery board. 6. Don’t file too sharp on into nail corners. 7. Don’t use sharp pointed implements to cleanse under the nail. 8. Apply anti septic if the skin is accidentally cut. 9. Avoid pushing the cuticle back too far. 10. Do not work on a nail that is deceased or contains pus.
Procedure for table set up 1. Wipe the manicure table with 70% alcohol. 2. Wrap the clients cushion in a clean sanitized towel or cloth, place at the middle so the cushion is toward the client and the end of the towel is toward the manicurist. 3. Put all nail polish on the right side of the table. 4. Put the finger bowl on the left toward the client. 5. Tie a plastic bag at the right side of the table for disposing used materials during the manicure. 6. Put the cuticle remover, merthiolate, acetone, cuticle oil, lotion, cotton balls, in the right side of the table. 7. The drawer can be used to keep all extra items.
Steps: 1. Wash your hand with anti bacterial soap. 2. Quit and direct client to the chair. 3. Direct the client to sit behind the table. 4. Adjust the table into position.
Manicure Procedure:
1. Remove old nail polish- begin with left little finger. 2. Shape the nails- using an emery board a nail file shape the nails start with the left little finger holding it between the thumbs and index finger. Note: nails that have been soaking are soft and easy to break or split when filed. Therefore always file before soaking them.
3. Soften cuticles- after filing the left hand put it in a soap bath while filing the right hand soak to soften the cuticles. 4. Apply cuticle remover. 5. Loosen cuticles. 6. Brush nails. 7. Nip the cuticles. 8. Clean under free edge and wipe with wet cotton. 9. Bevel nails. 10. Apply cuticle oil and massage around nails. 11. Apply antiseptic. 12. Perform hand and arm massage.
Hand and Arm massage 1. Relaxing movement. 2. t movement over finger. 3. Circular movement and pressing movement in palm. 4. Circular movement on wrist. 5.
