IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIVITIES FOR Grades 4-6 (Category C)

A. Spelling Bee 1. Objective/s: a. To spell words accurately 2. Participants:

Open to all Grade 4-6 pupils

3. Mechanics: i. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary shall be used as the official reference for the contest. ii. The contest is done in three (3) rounds: easy, average, and difficult. There will be 15 words for the easy round, 10 for the average, and 5 for the difficult round. iii. The Bee Master will give the correct pronunciation of the word, including its part of speech and definition. It shall also be used in a sentence. The word will be read twice. iv. Time allotment will be implemented as follows: Easy round 5 seconds/word Average round7 seconds/word Difficult round 10 seconds/word v. vi.

The contest shall follow the elimination method. The top three (3) highest scorers in the difficult round shall be declared as first, second and third place winners respectively.

B. Extemporaneous Speech Contest 1. Objective/s: a. To deliver an extemporaneous speech with proper pausing, intonation and rhythm with proper facial expression 2. Participants:

Open to all Grade 4-6 pupils

3. Mechanics: i. The contestant shall pick any of the topics prepared by the facilitators through the lottery method. ii. The piece shall be delivered within 3-5 minutes. Every excess of 30 seconds shall be one (1) point deduction. iii. Attire should be the school uniform. iv. The top three (3) highest scorers shall be declared as first, second and third place winners respectively. v. The decision of the judges should be final and irrevocable. 4. Criteria of Judging: 40% - Delivery (Enunciation, Diction, Phrasing, Voice Projection) 20% - Persuasion 30% - Context 10% - Stage Presence and Impact 100% 5. Facilitators:

C. Jazz Chant (by class) 1. Objective/s: a. To develop the English proficiency and pronunciation of the students by delivering a piece in a fast rhythm. 2. Participants:

All Grades 4-6 class sections, 7-10

3. Mechanics: i. The class shall choose its own piece. ii. The time element of the piece shall be within 3-5 minutes. Every excess of 30 seconds shall be one (1) point deduction. iii. The first syllable/word uttered signals the starts of the performance, and the bow determines the end of the performance. iv. Attires should be appropriate to the chosen piece. v. Only one (1) group will be declared as the winner.

IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIVITIES FOR HIGH SCHOOL (Category D)

A. Scrabble 1. Objective/s: a. To incorporate strategy in spelling skills b. To develop anagramming, or forming words by rearranging the letters 2. Participants: Open to all High School students, but the first 8 students who will enlist on Monday afternoon (12:30 pm) will only be the official players. 3. Mechanics: i. The competition will follow the standard rules in playing the board game. ii. Specific mechanics and scoring guidelines will be oriented by the facilitator during the game schedule. 4. B. On-the-Spot Essay Writing Contest 1. Objective/s: a. To write unified, coherent and well-organized paragraphs in connection with the celebration’s theme 2. Participants: All High School students (compulsory) 3. Mechanics: i. Each student is to write at least 4-5 paragraph of essay that will be in line with the theme. ii. One inch margins should be set on both left and right sides. iii. Cursive handwriting is strictly required in the writing process. When writing, students should also strictly observe the ‘leave one space” rule. iv. Students are also encouraged to put a title in their essay. v. The essay will be written during the English period, and will only be one (1) hour. vi. The top three (3) highest scorers shall be declared as first, second and third place winners respectively.

C. Song Writing Contest 1. Objective/s: a. To apply the concept of musical poetry, observing the proper standards of poetry writing and symbolical literature 2. Participants: Open to all High school students 3. Mechanics: i. The contestant/s can be individual, pair, or triads. ii. The lyrics should be originally composed by the student. Any part of the song that is plagiarized will be disqualified. iii. The musical accompaniment can be an original version, or taken from any published song. iv. The song can be in any genre. v. Any high school student can submit his/her composition to the English teacher. Deadline of the submission will be January 13, 2017, 3:00 in the afternoon. The teacher will not accept compositions beyond the deadline. vi. Selected judges will screen the submissions, and will only choose five (5) compositions that are to be performed on January 18, 2017 at the Computer Laboratory. vii. The top three (3) singer-composers shall be declared as first, second and third place winners respectively. viii. The decision of the judges should be final and irrevocable. 4.
