Mudra Yoga
Introduction • Mudra is a term with many meanings. It is used to signify a gesture, a mystic position of the hands, a seal or even a symbol • Mudras are an integral part of the science of Yoga. Certain Mudras along with Pranayama helps a great deal in harmonizing the Bodymind. It affects the Physical, Mental & the Pranic Bodies directly • The Universe is composed of five elements, earth, air, water, fire, and ether. Similarly our body is also a union of five elements which is represented by our five fingers
Gyan Mudra Method: Touch the tip of the thumb to the tip of the index finger, with the other three fingers stretched out. Specialty: A mudra of knowledge, it enhances the knowledge. The tip of thumb correlates to the pituitary and endocrine glands. When you press these centers with the index finger the two glands work actively. Benefits: • Increases memory power and sharpens the brain • Enhances concentration and prevents Insomnia • When practiced regularly, it will relieve psychological disorders like Hysteria, Anger and Depression
Vayu Mudra Method: Keep the index finger on the base of the thumb and press with the thumb keeping the other three fingers straight. Specialty: Prevents diseases that occur due to imbalances in the air. Benefits: • Relieves Rheumatism, Arthritis, Gout, Parkinson's disease and paralysis without any medicine. • Useful for Cervical Spondilytis, paralysis of the face, and pressure on nerves in neck. • Relieves gas pressure in the stomach.
Aakash Mudra Method: Keep the middle finger at the tip of thumb and keeping the other fingers straight. Specialty: Get relief in bone related problem and make your bone strong, Heart related problem are also benefited by practicing this mudra. Benefits: • To detoxify the body by the elimination of metabolic wastes • To overcome discomfort caused by over-eating • To relieve congestion (and pain) in the head (due to migraine or sinusitis), ear/s (due to infection), chest (due to infection / asthma ) • High blood pressure • Irregular heart-beats
Shunya Mudra or Mudra of Emptiness Method: Keep the middle finger at the base of thumb and press with the thumb keeping the other fingers straight. Specialty: Reduces the dullness in the body. Benefits: • Relieves an earache within 4 or 5 minutes • Useful for the deaf and mentally challenged
Prithvi Mudra Method: This mudra is formed by ing together the tips of the ring finger and the thumb. Specialty: this mudra increases the Prithvi (earth) element within the body. Benefits: • Reduce Skin-rashes • Control Hair-loss • Reduce Burning in eyes • Reducestomach (acidity)
Surya Mudra or Mudra of the Sun Method: Bend the ring finger and press it with thumb. Specialty: Correlates to the thyroid gland. Benefits: • Reduces cholesterol in body and helps in reducing weight • Reduces anxiety • Corrects or relieves indigestion
Varun Mudra Method: Tip of little finger touches the tip of thumb with the other three fingers stretched out. Specialty: Balances the water content and prevents all diseases which come due to lack of water. Benefits: • Retains clarity in blood by balancing water content in the body • Prevents the pain of Gastroenteritis and Muscle Shrinkage
Jal Shamak Mudra Method Tip of little finger touches the base of thumb and press with thumb and the other three fingers stretched out. Specialty It brings about a reduction of the Jal (water) element within the body. Benefits • Dropsy Excessive salivation Watery eyes • Running nose • Hyperacidity, • Diarrhoea
Apan Mudra or Mudra of Digestion Method: The tips of middle finger and ring finger touch the tip of thumb while the other two fingers are stretched out. Specialty: Plays an important role in our health as it regulates the excretory system. Benefits: • Regulates diabetes • Relieves constipation and piles • Helps establish regular excretion of solid waste
Ling Mudra
Method: Interlock the fingers of both hands and keep the thumb of the left hand vertically straight and encircle it with The thumb and the index finger of the right. Hakini Mudra Method: Tips of the corresponding fingers touch each other. Specialty: Helps to boost thinking and Concentration. Benefits: • It enhance the memory power, • To improve concentration, • Promotes calmness, • improve decision making.
Ushas mudra How to do: Interlace fingers at the chest or abdomen.
Benefits: • Awakens body and mind in the morning • increases creativity and productivity
Lotus mudra How to do: bring the base of the palms together at the heart centre, touching the thumbs and pinky fingers together. Spread the rest of the fingers out like the lotus flower opening toward the sunlight.
Benefits: • The Lotus Mudra drains out misunderstanding • helps to release tension
Anjali Mudra Methods Bring the hands together at the palms with the fingers reaching upwards. the hands are pressed together firmly and evenly. Benefits •It is natural remedy for stress & anxiety. •Bringing the palms together in this mudra connects the right and left hemisphere of the brain. •It is a useful mudra for entering into a meditive state. •The mudra respect for oneself and others.
Tri dosha nashak Saaman It is also called the MukulMudra mudra or the Sukri mudra, this mudra balances and co-ordinates the five elements and the three humors of the body. Method:This mudra is formed by ing together the tips of the thumb and all four fingers Benefits: • Saman mudra helps in digestion improving digestive system frees body from intestinal pain and cramps. • Saman Mudra enhances liver function.
Adi Mudra
How to do: The thumb is placed at the base of the small finger and the remaining fingers curl over the thumb, forming a light fist. The palms are again placed facing upwards on the thighs and the breathing repeated. Benefits • Relaxes the nervous system • Helps reduce snoring • Improves the flow of oxygen to the head • Increases capacity of the lungs
Apan Vayu Mudra
Method: The tips of the middle finger and ring finger touch the tip of thumb, while the index finger touches the base of thumb and the little finger is stretched out.
