History
RISING FROM THE ASHES OF WAR. The year was 1948. The world was recovering from the ravages of World War II. In Davao, pioneering Filipinos were slowly picking up the pieces of a disrupted economy. That same year, the Pamintuan Family built a modest lodging facility for businessmen and their families who were exploring the city and were looking to rebuild their lives in Davao. With fifteen (15) rooms and one restaurant, Davao’s first hotel – The Apo View – was born. MILESTONES Second only to the Manila Hotel as the Philippines’ oldest operating hotel in the country, The Apo View has grown from its humble beginnings to become a first class hotel, with a history as rich and colourful as its city. In 1978, the hotel underwent a major expansion, covering one hectare and increasing its accommodations to 100 guest rooms. In the 1980s, the hotel weathered the challenges of civil unrest in the City. A hotel fire in 1988 threatened to close its doors for good, if not for the painstaking efforts of the city and hotel owners who were determined to restore The Apo View to its former grandeur. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION Their efforts were not in vain. Ten (10) years after the devastating fire, The Apo View marked its 50th Anniversary, a celebration made more meaningful by honors and recognition bestowed on the hotel by respectable institutions. In 1998, the Philippine Postal Corporation recognized the hotel’s golden anniversary by issuing a commemorative stamp that recognizes The Apo View as a Davao City landmark. Other awards followed – Recognition as a Pioneer Hotel by the country’s Department of Tourism; the Datu Bago Award, which is the highest and most prestigious award given by the City of Davao to its outstanding constituents; and the International Recognition of Efficiency and International Gold Star for Quality in Switzerland.
As the hotel faces the demands of a fast – changing and global economy, The Apo View continues to take pride as Davao’s first and Davao’s own.

STI COLLEGE GENERAL SANTOS CITY OJT NARRATIVE REPORT I, Carl Angelo M. Necesito, a hospitality student from BSHRM 3-1A, had completed a total of Four Hundred Twenty (420) hours of housekeeping practicum with APO VIEW HOTEL in Davao City from April to June 2016. On the first day of my duty, I felt so nervous to commit mistakes because I was a newbie at that time and I also felt afraid mostly when I was having a conversation with the regular staffs and the superiors. But in the moment I realized, I need to prove that I am firm, flexible and versatile in any kind of circumstances. And I often showed them my best to make them amazed. During my training days, I accomplished the activities of being a housekeeping staff; I cleaned the function rooms, cleaning the hallways and the lobby. I also experienced cleaning the C.R’s in different function rooms, I need to maintain that the C.R is always clean, and there are facial and toilet tissues. I also did the segregation of linens in the laundry area, which we will segregate the linens so that the regular staffs can easily wash it. And in the rooms department which is the busiest department, we always clean the rooms to make sure that the guests will be memorable in their stay. We did the dusting, sweeping, mopping, changing the linens and cleaning the C.R. Then, at the end of the day I will give myself enough time to rest to get ready for the next tiring days.
I always showed my self-confidence whenever I did an activity each day. I also worked not just only to finish the activity, but I worked with interest in the program. I absorbed and followed instructions easily. I was opened to learn new concept and ideas. And during my training I also helped my other classmates to have their practicum in the Apo View Hotel. As the time went by, I learned to value intimacy and close-knit relationship together with my co-trainees and superiors. I had fun with my co-trainees and the staffs because of their energetic, gleeful and habitual joker personality. We “chit chat” a lot while having out duty, and having happy and memorable moments. I learned archiving. I learned to handle my responsibilities as well as my ability to the hotel. I had fun with the staffs because of their energetic, gleeful and habitual joker personality. We “chit chat” a lot while having out duty, and having happy and memorable moments. I will not forget this practicum mostly my last day, which is June 2, 2016. It was the day I end my practicum, but that day I totally developed my personality and capabilities. Grueling yet enjoyable, enjoyable because I knew these are the works that I may attain in the near future.
